Man, I loved this game way back in the day. It’s one of the few franchise installments that the N64 truly did justice to. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- this game didn’t get half the attention it deserved. It has a creepy, dark atmosphere that other games in the series lacked at the time and it really feels like something’s out to get you at every corner. Truly an under-appreciated gem. Good to see you give it the playthrough it deserves, Decino.

It's a great game, but I fully understand why it didn't get the attention it deserved. I tried playing a real N64 cartridge and it was unplayable due to the stupid controller. There's maybe 5 different control mappings, but none of them work well because Nintendo designed that controller for a species with three hands. So us humans with our two hands can't reach all the buttons no matter how we hold it, so something is always lacking or awkward. I gave up playing it very quickly and got Doom 64 EX instead. I'm glad we have an official PC version now though, no more dicking around with ROMs to play. Seriously, I'll never truly get over how stupid Nintendo was with that controller.

I hear decino complains quite often about Light Amplifiers. I found out that Valiant uses the Light Amp thing placement for Masterminds, rendering the DeHackEd file incompatible with just about everything, ever, and that reverse-engineering it via DECORATE renders any game mod duplicate restricted to Zed Source Ports. That might be far less painful on the eyes.
The new sound effects are one of my favourite parts of Doom on the PS1 and N64. It adds so much atmosphere. Plus all the monster sounds are greatly improved.

I agree with others Doom64 was underappreciated. Both at the time and with the EX mod we got on PC later. My only gripe is I couldn't get used to the monster sounds. Maybe because I played the original PC version so much it was sort of aural muscle memory, but I found it hard to identify demons by ear as I was engaged in fights, so I'd turn to deal with the threat with the wrong weapon equipped and such. Some monster's pain sound are also very close to other monster's alert sound, so I would think I was doing damage, when, in fact, merely another monster spotted me. Anyway, thank you for this series, I enjoyed it and good job surviving some of the brutal traps (certainly with fast monsters enabled).

GJ on finishing doom 64! I personally just finished my episode 4 challenge (first attempt, too! But it was after some level-by-level practice, of course).
Thanks for this playthrough. Highly enjoyed watching it all the way through. Glad to hear you really enjoyed playing it as well. This is one of my favorite FPS games ever made and the Lost Missions were excellent!
Man, that room that drops you into the courtyard with all the pain elementals and arachnotrons absolutely *massacred* me the first time I played it. The lost levels were fun as hell. Glad you did a playthrough of DOOM64! I first played it as a kid and always felt it was sorely underappreciated, even if it does use hell nobles a tad more than necessary, haha. This was a great watch, as always!
Considering one of his inspirations is BigMacDavis, that's not surprising. That guy also feels like Bob Ross when he is making his walkthroughs/playthroughs.
These maps are all pretty great, had they not been made recently, they would have very reasonably fit in with the rest of the game. I think my favorite is map36 because I'm a huge sucker for those maps where you run around a castle and eventually enter, which Doom 64 does like 2 or 3 times.
Thanks for the vids decino, i'm going through some stupid break-up stuff and watching you play doom while being all alone really helps with coping with my current situation
Freakin awesome =D So glad you finished this. I was always so scared of Doom 64 as a kid playing it on the N64, but now with mouse and keyboard this game only scares the poop out of me a little bit.
You know what, am just gonna sub to this channel after watching so many videos from it. You deserve it, non-jarhead who plays a lot of jarhead and Rambo-ish games. Ah, finally, the intro is rendered viewable for this playthrough! If there's one big flaw for this expansion, it's that it appears to be a victim of the "It's Short, So It Sucks" trope that also hampers SWAT 4 (before The Stetchkov Syndicate expansion came along), Star Wars: Republic Commando, Halo 3: ODST, and Titanfall 2. The three demons puzzle makes me think "Wrinkly, Rounder, and Horner" based on their foreheads so to memorize them well. 46:28: You're not even using Berserk, and even then, you're not using up some MMA moves and grapple attacks. And what follows will be a long war across many worlds, Hells, realities, and realms, all the way to the eventual rediscovery of the prospective Doom Slayer by the Night Sentinels, the implications of Doom³ involving some Steins;Gate/Quantum Leap elements with soulful body-surfing involving a Marine and an Engineer, and finally the events prior and during the nu-Doom duology. Anyways, will rank the game as 9.0+, what with too many Hell Knights and Lost Souls. Well, time to proceed next to SIGIL.
Hi decino. Thanks for playing the additional maps of DooM 64. I never played or saw them. I even didn't know that they exist. 😁 So thanks for sharing.👍👊🤘❤
Didn't watch the video, except for the ending thoughts (spoilers, haven't played the Lost Levels yet), but still very happy that you ended up liking the game. "Fast monsters" seems like an appropriate balancing countermeasure against mouse and keyboard. Thanks for giving D64 your attention and GL on your next game! (I hope I live long enough to see you do Plutonia 2 someday...)
since you are doing multiple wads at once, can you play TOTG (toilet of the gods) its a pretty unforgiving wad and only 4 levels (so easy but it means doable too) keep it up decino!
Lol he told me he'd do it at 10m subscribers. As much as I'd like to see him struggle with it, I think there's too many more well-designed megawads out there to play. Alien Vendetta, Stardate 20x7, Void and Rainbow... etc.
Glad you enjoyed it. This version is for sure the best. The N64 version had super dark lighting and the controller was a little strangely set up. I look forward to the next wad
Awesome video series man ! I have to agree the game has aged like fine wine. When it came out on n64 I wasnt interested at all as I was a bit burned out on Doom. Furthermore "new 3d graphics" were the big thing then, so Quake and Goldeneye were more popular at the time. However now I can see this game really was awesome and holds up incredibly well. I hope they make some mods for this game
16:56 A rare glimpse of Decino actually worried. I swear, blind runs, outtakes, or successful runs, it doesn't matter. This is one of the most "not in control" moments I've seen him in. And it's not even the situation itself, it's the f e e l i n g you can just......get, from Decino at this moment. And the way he handles it by simply treating the problem with more Shotgun *Muah* After a few look overs of that scene, I notice the first Pinky doesn't bleed when Decino fires the SS initially, so perhaps it missed? Logically it seems that the barrel of the gun was "past" the Pinky but in game logic, outside of the "cone" of damage? What a gnarly predicament. I'm curious to know if this is true, or if that Pinky just tanked 3 SS blasts on low damage rolls?
Doom 64 is just a wonderful entry on the series that has its unique feel, design, atmosphere and it's very fun to play (except for certain traps and the teleporting BS of the 'fun' levels). It truly aged like wine, like you just said at the end of the video and i'm happy that you beat the whole game, including the Lost Levels (and with Fast Monsters enabled) And holy crap, there were two instances that could easily frick your entire run of map 38 near the end (the rocket and almost forgetting to kill that Lost Soul). Good thing those didn't screw you over or else that would've been a huge waste.
On the level Evil Sacrifice there's a little easter egg on the lift at 11:37 where the sides of the lift has a green texture that says "I suck at making maps".
Damn played doom since 95 and remember when the shareware was at 7-11 for 5 bucks, now 25 years later people are still playing with passion. Made my first doom level in 96 called Crud didnt even have an exit because I didnt know how to make one, but decino is so good he would still have found a way to finish 100%.
I also really liked DOOM 64; but honestly I was even more surprised by how good the lost levels were. I really thought they would be some rehash to get the people that played the game as a kid to still buy it but for me these were actually my favorite levels. (fyi: I did not play this game as a kid)
I had an interest in Doom 64 to the point I played EX. I got it for pre ordering Doom Eternal and jumped in on Watch Me Die after I was done ripping the Icon of Sin open. The Lost Levels hit hard at first, and I got lost in a few. The Fun Levels made me think of Slayer Gates, with a bit of Rune Challenge from Doom 2016. I had a good feeling when I finished Panic. Then I tried it with -fast and... still need practice. You got me to try out Doom 1 levels on UV-Fast Pistol Started (had a checklist at some point) and I still would rather that than Nightmare. I don't like it when they get back up. Also, that Unmaker. Basically the BFG skipping to the tracer rays on full auto. And supposedly with 3D lasers. I wish the Resurrector was a bit tougher, she beats rocket dunking a wall. Attack wise she makes you not miss Revenants and Archviles. 5000 HP, and apparently not immune to splash. I also like the sheer number of secret levels compared to Doom II and how they all have a higher purpose. It's still weird that they used so many Hell Knights and Barons, they had several enemies they altered to be almost new. Also the OST. Sets the mood good. I like action horror, and I happen to be okay (maybe too okay) with Doom 3. I look forward to whatever the next "Doom Man does the thing" You come out with.
I like how the lost souls just look like they're annoying the demons they're infighting with before eventually they just flop over and die from frustration. They're just as annoyed at the lost souls as the players are!
MAP33: I like the Cyberdemon constantly tracking the camera to rocket it. The visible player model makes me wish the modern port came with multiplayer. MAP34: I got turned around entirely too many times on this one for my own good. Gave me such a headache. (Never forget about the lost souls...) MAP35: So many hitscanners, very mean map. But always eager to kick some more demon butt in Heck. I missed that shootable switch secret, wow. That start did a number on your health though, I was worried you were actually going to die this time. I should have known better. Also, I would say that damage is never necessary but it may sometimes be unavoidable if you have to deal with a lot of hitscan in a big, open area with no cover, or a lot of projectiles in a thight corridor. And I think the first shot on that pinkie was while it was still spawning in--that nasty moment of invulnerability you've noticed. MAP36: This was an exciting map, didn't feel like it was needlessly padded out the way some other maps were. Good times. It did also give me a lot of anxiety though because there was constantly just so much going on until I killed everything. I liked the puzzle memory bit. I remembered it with "Orlok, Majora's mask, Predator," myself. MAP37: I really do like the improved scripting DOOM 64 had. ITEMS could be flagged as secrets, there were actual "you have to pick up the item" triggers instead of just increasingly narrow linedef crossings, etc., and special wall effects could be triggered by any monster dying, not just specific monsters on specific levels, and a few bits of this map show it. Also GOD lost souls are so annoying in DOOM 64. MAP38: This start got me so messed up. It actually killed me a few times on my play. Very punishing and very long is right. That rocket you ate as you were about to win nearly made me choke on my sandwich. Be more careful! For your own sake, I thought YOU (the player) were gonna have a heart attack. MAP39: I told you this was gonna feel like a slaguhtermap, didn't I? I bet you felt it while you were hunting down that third key. But man, that 3-key Unmaker is amazing fun. MAP40: decino. Kills bugs (and cyberdemons) dead. Overall: An end of a saga. I'm so happy you enjoyed this port. I got to play little bits of it when I was a kid, and enjoyed it, and then with the PC port I got to play it in full, so seeing my favorite DOOMtuber crush it was great. I've been dealing with a lot of crap between work and home issues, and your videos are a great destressing and relaxing tool whenever I can watch them. Fantastic. Cheers!
Despite being happy that Doom 64 is back in a way that I don’t have to worry about a faulty control stick, I am a little sad that the PS4 version - as far as I know - doesn’t have a Platinum Trophy like the Doom Unity ports do. The Lost Levels are a nice addition, though, even if they couldn’t add chaingunners, revenants, arch-viles, and spider masterminds into the game, nor any other new monsters.
After watching this, I think I'd like to see you play through _Knee-Deep in the Dead_ for _Doom 64._ It's less of a straight conversion and more of a reinterpretation of the original _Doom_ Episode 1 that uses all the _Doom 64_ conventions. Pretty nifty.

These maps are all pretty great, had they not been made recently, they would have very reasonably fit in with the rest of the game. I think my favorite is map36 because I'm a huge sucker for those maps where you run around a castle and eventually enter, which Doom 64 does like 2 or 3 times.
I think you just cornered yourself as a let's player; you didn't skip the intro cutscene.
Yikes.
So, good or bad thing?
Nice you actually put in map 33 lmao. Its been a fun ride!
"Kids, never forget about the lost souls" sounds like a bad product warning found on your average kitchen product.
Wastes invulnerability sphere.
"Eh, whatever, we'll do it the hard way, then".
What a chad.
Thanks for the vids decino, i'm going through some stupid break-up stuff and watching you play doom while being all alone really helps with coping with my current situation
I regret finding this channel, I never knew custom Doom wads were so high quality, I got like 20+ years of content to grind through now.
Done! Just binged watched all of your doom64 run over the last 2 days, epic!! I want it, I want it haha
I love your deep voice
Freakin awesome =D So glad you finished this. I was always so scared of Doom 64 as a kid playing it on the N64, but now with mouse and keyboard this game only scares the poop out of me a little bit.
Another series finished! That "Unmaker" thing full powered is insanely broken. It'd be good to have in Okuplok.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s definitely an underrated classic. Happy to see it get recognition
Why am i not in doom 64.
Cartridge space.
At least in doom PSX you got doom 64 sounds
Imagine being replaced by a wall texture
because you'r a Bonny Basterd :p
Your gone but not forgotten I loved u man a pain but funny and a 10/10 meme 100/10 demon
"Kids, never forget about the lost souls"
Thanks for the tip, Daddy decino
Kids, never forget about the lost souls - Decino, 2020
1:04:19 "They cannot harm you here"
Only Decino can harm Decino.
No rest for the living UV-fast. Please, decino, make it happen!
Hi decino. Thanks for playing the additional maps of DooM 64. I never played or saw them. I even didn't know that they exist. 😁
So thanks for sharing.👍👊🤘❤
Been rewatching your Doom analysis videos, love 'em, looking forward to the next one D!
Great playthrough, breh! Thank you for the content, as always! Well played, decino. GGs
(I hope I live long enough to see you do Plutonia 2 someday...)
since you are doing multiple wads at once, can you play TOTG (toilet of the gods)
its a pretty unforgiving wad and only 4 levels (so easy but it means doable too)
keep it up decino!
Absolute chad
Great playthrough!! Realy fun to watch!!
Cheers decino!!!✌
Doom: 64
Demons: 0
Decino: 10/10
Thank you for this Journey Decino! Thank you! :D
And the way he handles it by simply treating the problem with more Shotgun *Muah*
After a few look overs of that scene, I notice the first Pinky doesn't bleed when Decino fires the SS initially, so perhaps it missed? Logically it seems that the barrel of the gun was "past" the Pinky but in game logic, outside of the "cone" of damage? What a gnarly predicament. I'm curious to know if this is true, or if that Pinky just tanked 3 SS blasts on low damage rolls?
Doom 64 is just a wonderful entry on the series that has its unique feel, design, atmosphere and it's very fun to play (except for certain traps and the teleporting BS of the 'fun' levels). It truly aged like wine, like you just said at the end of the video and i'm happy that you beat the whole game, including the Lost Levels (and with Fast Monsters enabled)
And holy crap, there were two instances that could easily frick your entire run of map 38 near the end (the rocket and almost forgetting to kill that Lost Soul).
"Map 33 to 40" and I'm like what the heck are those maps? Then I realized that I played them and loved the new addition to Doom 64
Your complaints about the infighting flag are the same as mine for damaging floors. Nukage that doesn't hurt is a sin.
I also really liked DOOM 64; but honestly I was even more surprised by how good the lost levels were.
I really thought they would be some rehash to get the people that played the game as a kid to still buy it but for me these were actually my favorite levels.
(fyi: I did not play this game as a kid)
Decino-mind: "Actually lets launch some rockets with the Locket Rauncher"
Nice vid, guess waking up 4 AM has its benefits
4:17 damn. Demons really need decino’s permission to die now. 😂
24:14 "He's gonna' eat a rocket off of those torches..." 24:17 "Yeah, like that."
39:15 The Lost Soul wrecked the hell knight. No cooldown, no pain state, fricking relentless.
I did not remember all the levels and watching all your videos was ending the game was the best
I like how the lost souls just look like they're annoying the demons they're infighting with before eventually they just flop over and die from frustration. They're just as annoyed at the lost souls as the players are!
Greetings everyone
Monsters: *exists*
decino: I am about to end this man's whole career.
MAP33: I like the Cyberdemon constantly tracking the camera to rocket it. The visible player model makes me wish the modern port came with multiplayer.
MAP34: I got turned around entirely too many times on this one for my own good. Gave me such a headache. (Never forget about the lost souls...)
MAP35: So many hitscanners, very mean map.
Fantastic. Cheers!
I think brutal doom 64 has multiplayer but the maps are not meant to be multiplayer
DOOM 64 needs some wads. Wads like the deadmachine or something like that.
Or godmachine or how it was called.
I honestly love that the fireballs from the Hell knights are more bright.
I dont know why but i like them more like that.

Hmm, thought I heard Drosselmeyer.
Nice Tsumugi Kotobuki PFP there, moogers.
You should write doom strategy GUIDES Decino. You, sir are truly a DoomSlayer!
Is it me or do the Pinky corpses look like Pain Elementals? It kinda sounds like decino says Soup Shotgun. I like SOUP SHOTGUN better. No offense to #decino
Offtopic but the next levels of Valient are looking güd UwU
Also love the turbo pinkys here, the look like clay stop motion on pinkys ultra fast
One thing that makes me smile about Doom 64 is the buff flexing imps.
Do the barons and hell knights remind anyone else of the Mangalores in The Fifth Element? I was a fan of Doom 64 when I first saw it and thought as a kid, “ahhh! The barons are coming!”
I’m so glad you did the map 33 joke
(Thanks for listening)
