Is Joe Japanese American? His last name is pretty rate, like even for Japanese overall.
What Joe was saying when he went to the career fair is true with all high schoolers. Unless your parents are in the field, you will likely not know your options out there.
There should be a class called Careers where you get to learn about different careers out there. As a kid, all you know are like the stuff that is in the kindergarten board - police, fireman, teacher, janitor, doctor, nurse, lawyer, businessman, engineer, pilot, soldier, etc.
You don't know things like dental hygienist, radiology technologist, HVAC repair, cyber security specialist, management consultant, actuary, data scientist, comptroller, air traffic control, government jobs like state department or US foreign service officer.
And even something like Doctor or Lawyer, there is like so many specialties within like surgeon, ob/gyn, opthalmologist, immunologist, endocrinologist, epidemiologist, ER, pathologist, psychiatrist, oncologist...

Were there really that many poor Asians in the 90s in SGV? I grew up in the same era and area and it was completely opposite for me. Going to college was a given almost like how people naturally go to high school after middle school. We had gangs at my high school, which was like 40-50% Asian, but none of them came from poor backgrounds. I wonder what Joe and Bart’s family backgrounds are because I didn’t know a single Asian who came from a poor family, at least not poor like Compton poor.
It was bad in LA in general in the 90s. I was young chinese boy in the SGV in the 90s and there were a lot of Asian gangs like Wahching and small Asian gangs. Also there was many Mexican gangs. There was a lot of Drive by and a lot of shooting happen between Asians and Mexicans. Also Asian gangs vs Asian gangs.
Just watch Johnny Chang. He finally spoke out about his Gang in WahChing in the SGV.
in San Gabriel High, my other Chinese friend had a gun in his backpack. I remember seeing it when he showed me. I wonder if you went to San Marino High School or something. They were fine
@@allio3459 oh yea, I remember those days, but I don’t remember any of those Asian families being very poor, at least not in comparison to other races. In fact, I knew Asian gang members who came from solidly middle to upper middle class families.
