I'm not going to make too much excuse as in why the video was delayed until Tuesday. All I'm going to say is the length of the video and cough cough OP. Hope you weeb enjoy this video and make sure to vote for the next mangaka!
Oh man, growing up on Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2 and Detective Conan manga's was literally the best. Learning how to fight, learn, love, laugh and think from all the best teachers....
Thank you for creating this video, Rumiko is very inspiring 🙇♀️. I use to watch Ranma 1/2 when I was a teen in Mexico 🇲🇽 I can't believe how lucky I was to watch anime because thanks to this my love for illustration and Japan grew and grew 🥰 and I keep it until today.
Amazing video! Honestly as I got further into the world of anime and manga Takahashi's evolution as a creator has fascinated me more and more. She's seemingly able to blend in with any genre while keeping her own unique style. I'm surprised there aren't more videos on her.
If there's any female mangaka, I'd like to see get talked about on your channel good sir, it's Katsura Hoshino (D.Gray-Man). I'm finally gonna start reading Inuyasha and Maison Ikkoku. Thanks! ^^
Man you did a good job overviewing her. I know there can be bias and missing information due to many languages sources but she does have a big impact in France and Canada as well for the French speaking community. keep up the good videos
Great video man I wanna suggest a few mangaka in mind - Leiji Matsumoto - Kohei Horikoshi - Tsugumi Oba - Osamu Tezuka birth to his final years - Reiji Miyajima
I read endless amounts of manga and watch hours and hours of so many different anime’s. Rumiko’s work and Inuyasha was one of my firsts, and she holds such a special place in my heart. I also LOVED Mermaid Saga manga. Thank you for this amazing video. 🥲
Given how much nudity there is in Ranma, in a way she's lucky that her home country is so tolerant when it comes to sexuality, especially when it's shown on mass media. Had she been working in a western society her reputation likely would have been dragged through the mud by all the parents pulling a Helen Lovejoy's "Think of the children", and that's before the fines and possible jail times. The west would have crippled her career and utterly destroyed her image As tolerant as Japan is on sexuality, one can't deny that a typical Japanese parents would still find it a bit awkward when their kids are watching the show and naked girl Ranma shows up, like that bathhouse episode. No black bars or mosaic, just full on nudity (even if it's played for laughs and not meant for titillation)
Considering the culture and environment of the time, her work would probably classify as less nudity than most manga. Her main strength was comedy and romance with a bit of battle, so even without nudity she will still do fine than let's say high school of the dead,
Still, the nudity in Ranma is a bit over the top, and most of the time they made no effort to cover up in any way (the bathhouse episode for example leaves nothing to the imagination) Heck, it makes the barbie doll like nude transformation sequences in Sailor Moon look mundane by comparison, and they had to alter it to make it look slightly less pronounced. The bathhouse episode uncut would have raised quite the ruckus from western parents My question is not whether Takahashi's work has less nudity than most, but how she managed to justify it and not end up with a bunch of complaints directed at her. Granted, her distance to the west gives her a certain level of buffer against the average western consumer, whom will likely direct their complaints to the local publisher instead of the creator. Though hypothetically if the publisher took on too much flak than they can handle, they can potentially take it out on Takahashi for getting them into this mess
Indeed, you'd think with her success she'd have suitors lining up to try and win her heart, and yet she's not even trying. Is no one in the industry interested, or hasn't there been anyone who tried to matchmake for her? Then again, her unique position in the manga/anime industry essentially makes everyone who works in it a family member to her, and they'll all accept her as such. At the end of the day, with no heir under her name she won't be able to carry on her legacy to the next generation, who may not even know her by then. Alas, at 66 it's a little too late for her to have kids even if she did marry, the best she can do now is adoption.

The thing is she has no family. You can be married to your work but I think its more a negative than a positive.
