This one’s easy… Never. Ever. Ever ever ever ever ever sign any run that stops at a mall during the holidays. Man, you’ll get heavy traffic, shopping carts, baby strollers, ADA, and people wanting to board with their 60-inch TV’s - everything. If you’re in a seniority spot where you don’t have to sign that stuff, then steer clear 😂
I'm not sure what city you are in but those basket carts and strollers are annoying. They especially sit directly in the front handicap area knowing a wheelchair passenger is about to board. In addition there is a church that has a food drive Tues -saturday and most of the food is expired and fruits/vegetables that are rotten. They bring their smelly basket and strollers of contaminated food and stink up the bus stops and buses. They even start eating that crap on the bus.
@@Taylormademan900I agree. I hate it when those elderly people be being those carry on’s onto the bus. I get that public transport is for everyone but they be slowing down services, especially wheelchairs.
@@nobody_5201 I'm 45 and I keep myself in decent shape. I swear these people aren't even that old. Some are my age or early 50s. After using public transportation as my primary way of travel I no longer trust old people. 😞 🤣 Old people try to make themselves look even older so they can slow everyone down. One of my 10 commandments is "never trust old people." Just yesterday this guy in a scooter 🛵 got on the bus. Got secured down by the operator. Then he tells the driver he doesn't know exactly where to get off. The operator took an additional 5 minutes trying to help the scooter passenger figure out what stop he needs to exit. Then as soon as the driver raises the bus to leave the scooter passenger says he wants to get off. The operator you can tell is frustrated and so are the passengers. The operator unhooks him, lowers the ramp and then the scooter changes his mind and wants to get back on the bus. The operator you can tell was biting his tongue and said, "Sir where do you want to go?" Then the scooter passenger has to get back on the bus and repeat step 1. Jesus FN Christ!!!!!

I love our buses up here in Dayton, OH. We got amazing Gilligs with green color. Cleveland, OH is also ny favorite because of their Gillig BRT Plus CNG and diesels.
I love the blowout sneeze of a Gillig bus when it be riding down the streets, too bad MCTS doesn't make that sneeze sound on their Gillig BRT clean diesels.

Most of my routes don't go to shopping malls, it mostly goes to Downtown Chicago and back to the South Side like Hyde Park and South Shore neighborhood which is route 6 and 28 mostly in Hyde Park and back to Olive Harvey or 103rd Garage. I do the rush hour schedule into downtown Chicago on route 28 because most of my bus routes goes on the Lake Shore Drive Expressway and Michigan Avenue which could be busy on weekdays and weekends. Thank you Keywan, I appreciate this channel.
Passed the CDL road test, now in service training. Finally picking up passengers and there are some unique characters out there!

Thank goodness I'm off on Thursday and Friday so I dodged a bullet on that one since I got the 23 4 days/week.
In El Paso this guy with the moving ice cream cart (paleta man) in a summer hear wave of 110 degrees tried getting on the bus with the damn Cart.😂 I don't believe there was possibly any room even if the handicap wheelchair spots were vacated. He literally forced his icecream cart into the boarding door and started arguing with the driver in Spanish. The driver was explaining he can't come on with that; its to big. I was getting off the bus so I'm not sure the outcome of that incident.
Well, good for THAT sunrise mall to still be open. Our mall in Massapequa is dead. The terminal is just almost barren where SCT doesn’t go there anymore, & NICE has returning the n54/55 back to Amityville LIRR. The n71 weekends follows the S1 via Carman/Main/Conklin. An almost direct parallel to the S1, but in Nassau County, but north end points are in Suffolk. Maybe both the n80 & n19 will go to Babylon, one going back Again. Who knows. But as the time says, our mall is dead, & yours is still alive.
This Sunrise mall is pretty much dead as well. It’s going to be closed soon from what I’ve heard.
As I’ve just visited Miami, Aventura Mall’s transit center is in one of the mall’s garages and i remember it was a hassle for the bus to get in to the mall itself.
The radio is my favorite, part of the bus! When I rode the school bus, one of the drivers thought, I was just listening to it for entertainment, but I was not

Thank you so much for sharing your shift with us. Yes, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the craziest holidays of the year. At my depot, we only have one bus route that goes to a mall. Fortunately, its not very popular. But youll be 30 minutes late from traffic.

Sweden is really cold now. The US looks lovely. I also have routes to shopping malls, but LA is a much larger city with many more malls. Black Friday was tough here too.

Black Friday in the uk is no different to any other day 😂 deals are rubbish and the high street is dead AF 😂 everyone just shops on Amazon nowadays

As a european busdriver I see big differences. Fewer cars on the road and more passengers on the bus, especially during morning rushhour . Commuters and college students.
March 2025 I will retire after 38 years on the road, it's been great 😊

There's a few routes where I work that goes into a Marketplace. Black Friday is terrible. I do extraboard and dodged the bullet last year but I always dread big shopping holidays!
This past Saturday was one of the most dangerous shifts I've done. It was rainy, and last minute shoppers were flooding the 2 malls where the end point of my line was at both ends. I came across no fewer than about 13 accidents in the course of the day, almost got side swiped from someone turning from the left lane around me, and I just said never again. I'm booking it off next year.
Yet another reason I like not having to drive anymore. Another reason to be nice to my bus drivers too. One thing I noted, why don't you have doors with shields around your drivers area? Edmonton's has them, they look useful to me.
Funny we have a Sunrise Mall on Long Island but unfortunately it is almost completely dead, there are plans to redevelop it but they have yet to be revealed. The traffic at the malls here seems to be worst the week before Christmas. Suffolk County Transit has a lot of routes that serve the malls so they had a lot of delays, many bus drivers calling in running late and being told to expect to run late. A lot of 20 to 30 minute delays. I wonder if they plan on putting those virtual mirrors inside the Gilligs there, we have been getting them put on a lot of ours at NICE Bus. It's basically a screen inside the bus which helps with the blind spots these buses have.
The Sunrise mall is in the same situation. It’s a dead mall with just a few stores still open. I’d definitely like to test out the virtual mirrors

Yo thank god I did not have to work on Black Friday. The traffic line was freakishly long. Definitely dodged a bullet this year but cannot say the same for next year when I have to drive a 40 foot Gillig into the shopping center in my area. xD

For any driver who also uses a clever device in their bus. Is there a way to turn up the volume for the bus stops that are announced in the bus for passengers? I could never figure that out. NJ Transit driver here.
Depends on the agency and version of software
Most often that’s in maintenance access menus ONLY
#1 rule as a passenger is to never trust old people. Especially with carts and the ones who use strollers as a basket. Those old people have an invisible time stamp on their forehead written, "I will delay the bus at least by 2-5 minutes per boarding.

New York City is the worst place to be a bus driver at, especially in areas around Manhattan between financial district and midtown and Washington Heights and Harlem and doing the interborough routes between Manhattan and Queens. Bus drivers who only travel between Upper East side and Upper West Side have it made.
South Suburbs Of Illinois, you would get caught by the freight trains because some of my routes go through a lot of manufacturing buildings and the stock yards where a lot of freight trains be at.

I have a class A. I got a job as a city bus driver. I want the job because I want to be local. I can’t make up my mind. If I should stay in the semi or take the bus job. I have a kid I only get to see him once a week (I’m regional). Idk what to do. For my career class a I want to stay in the semi. Being a mother my personal life I need to be home. Idk what to do.

The transit system where I live is called Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) and they have two buses that go to the mall
It is in Evansville Indiana
