I’ve watched all of Bookshops of Arkham, and episode 1 of Graveyards, so I’m no stranger to Meer’s voice, but holy crap, i didn’t realise he’d voiced Shepard! Seems so obvious now 😅
In case anyone was Curious, the Dewey Decimal Classification, according to a study done in 1927, the Dewey system was used in the US in approximately 96% of responding public libraries and 89% of the college libraries. So in a high end library in Mass was probably using the system at this time.
"I'm not a daughter of grace, but I am a woman of honesty, and I think that maybe you should pursue hobbies that are your own and that you enjoy." --- Theodore Holt What a fucking banger of a line.
"I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favourite RPG channel on the internet" - next level DMing by Mark Meer. Player characters are amazing too. Big Betty cracks me up.
I'm loving this, and would pay to see it live. A big part of that is all characters being decent AND avoiding attempted humoir every 20 seconds. Other shows make this a main thing and it ruins the drama. True fans shouldnt want a laff a minute+, we savour the scenario and responses. Im hard to please but all characters/actors are great. THe moxy hard lass is moxy when its appropriate, everyone else plays there characters welll and doesnt do cheap humour as much as possible to be centre of attention. Seriiously, well done everyone for your contribution to a brilliant show. X.
Plus Mark, an excellent Keeper. Fluid greatness like water. People ignore how awesome water is, but its awesome, like yourself. And again, not obsessed with being centre stage meaning everything gels much better into a compelling narrative.
Gah, I'm so dang jealous of all the actors playing NPC's for these! Looks like such fun. Also, can we all agree Abigail Trout is probably a Great Old One? Like, the fanciest and most eccentric one?
"They are part of the same soup organization". First let me say it is lines like this that make this series the best live play going. The actors stay in character and maintain the atmosphere. Second, I want to join a Soup Organization.
Mark is a very finely polished Keeper and presents a wonderfully engaging story. The cast is also very good and the production value is aces. Mark is a very fine example to follow as a burgeoning keeper. Best of luck and have fun!
A bit of friendly advice: In situations where the players wouldn't know the result if they failed their roll, like Spot Hidden, you should have their skill level available and make the roll yourself. That way they will not know if they have failed the roll or if there was nothing for them to see.
The Cthulhu stuff is very limited so far, but I like the buildup of what seems like a cult harvesting the recently dead for immortality or to stay young.
Another excellent slow-burn episode - with some great Keeper NPCs and Guest NPC - the creepy tension gathering to a storm cloud as the mysteries unfold...
I love the way you have organised and projected this game. So, as we all know, CoC is just a "game" but you bring this to life as a play - almost a slice of real, if creepy, life. The scene setting, the costumes, the background music and of course the multiple roles played by you are vivid and engrossing. Real talent, thank you for your efforts. - Tim
I love the sets and the costumes...they really are a nice touch...but I could just relax, close my eyes and become immersed in this "actual play" due to the fantastic audio and voice talents. Bravo! I guess this is similar to what people were entertained with before television and movies.
What a great mystery and lore you've created here. Really enjoying immersing myself in this world. All the library handouts were a nice touch. Adds so much flavor and more to parse thru as a player or viewer. Fantastic stuff!
Try a one shot, or if your group is like mine, even a minimal one shot usually stretches over 2-3 four hour sessions. I totally love CoC, it's my favorite system both as a player and GM. I've been running a bunch of shorter scenarios and I've currently been running masks for the last few years, for my group. The great thing about CoC is that you don't need a big party of players. You can play with one or two players, just give them a sacrificial npc if they need help to round out their party.
Okay so like Im DYING. I dont know how Ill handle waiting a week. I havent finished the episode yet but I am DYING. Pippa!!! Pls dont die!! Or get... altered 😮😢
This GM is like someone photocopied Matt Mercer into a different game system. He’s got the side burns, the expressions, the voices, and even a very similar pitch and cadence - and the M names!
Lucia is absolutely charming. Rest of the cast great too. Hecks yes, Paula Deming! :D I'd like to note @Chaosium that Paula is not given credit in the description of this video.
Slow burn, with the intensity rising on this one. We received a good bit of lore and back story from the other side of the tracks. I think the cast got a bit too personal, mentioning unmentionables for polite New Engand society in the 20's. "Why does it matter to you?" was a good rejoinder by Pipa. That said, well done on the role play.
Halfway through the episode and I’m calling it now! The rich men are making flesh golems out of their wives, Wallace got that moth during the blackout he had last episode, the moth was brewing inside him and that’s why he died, I bet there’s gonna be more of that! NOT ONE PERSON makes that big of a personality change in 3 weeks! From distraught and suspicious to happy go lucky and making pies? I’d be suspicious even if she DIDN'T look as creepy as she does! Like the Dr said, she’s too perfect! Human faces are not that perfect! I’m interested and nervous to see what actually happens. I have questions, I got some assumptions about everything, I want to know but yet I don’t. The outfits are great! The set design is awesome! The people are great! I do relate more to Betty than the others with not liking frills or dresses and preferring overalls and pants to more girly stuff. I’m not that strong anymore but I used to be real ripped! Lugging cases of water and heavy loads around a store for two years will do that for you!
I have noticed there isn't alot of horror in these episodes or action at all tbh It's alot of acting and dialogue but 2 episodes in no sanity checks or any kind of threat except one scene in 6 hours... I enjoy these videos but I really wish there was more high stakes maybe ppl going mad or even dying I don't think I've ever seen anyone die in any CoC playthroughs
In their previous playthrough there was a person who died. And clearly your memory is a bit faulty, because in the first episode there was a sanity check. I believe it was in the graveyard when the dogs attacked. And at the end of episode one with Mr Wallace. Mark typically ramps up the horror as the story progresses. You shouldn't show all your cards at once.
Josephine McAdams has been playing TTRPG's for a while. She's well know In LA by Night and was incredible and has played in several CoC actual plays. it's called acting. Maybe they are playing characters that require them to act a certain way. Vic is clearly a realist and probably doesn't believe in anything supernatural even when they see it. Very rude to call them dumb.
It’s odd that, despite the fact you claim to enjoy the series, you’re happy to, at best, patronise the abilities of two of the main cast or, at worst, insult them personally. Maybe reconsider how you choose to criticise things, because in this case, you just came across as a massive dickhead.
I wouldn't call them dumb, either. Though Theodore's comment about asexual creatures reproducing via eggs was a bit concerning. So far, I have mixed feelings. The main players/characters seem rather boring. I started Googling and was legitimately shocked to learn that Josephine is an actress. On the upside, the set design, lighting, and costuming are good. The Keeper is also particularly good at relaying things to the players and performing NPCs. At the moment, the vibe I'm getting is that this is less a group playing an RPG...and more an attempt at cringey improvisational theatre.
Eldritch stepford wives werent on my bingo card but here we are.
So glad I found Call of Cthulhu.
Not only is Mark Meer a great Keeper, he's an excellent voice actor. His Joker is particularly eerie. Bravo, Commander Shepard.
Fun fact. Mark's Joker movie was written and directed by Patrick Logan, who played Mickey in Bookshops of Arkham and plays Archibald here.
Oh wow. That is a fun fact. That short was actually really good. The eerie stare that Mark's Joker was just really good. Thank you!
I’ve watched all of Bookshops of Arkham, and episode 1 of Graveyards, so I’m no stranger to Meer’s voice, but holy crap, i didn’t realise he’d voiced Shepard! Seems so obvious now 😅

If you're a Millennial.
I doubt many women of the 1920s would have that attitude.
🤔

I honestly crack up every time Noura speaks in character. This is excellent.
Noura is amazing at this!

Woot! I'll be a keeper for my first time in March. This is fun and informative for me.
I’m itching to run a game also🤘🏼

Good for both of you for running a game! You rock. Keep on gaming
You guys will love it! I just started myself, it's so rewarding!
What a cast! And now Paula Deming too as guest!
Mark Meer makes a great Keeper. Really enjoying this.
Love these series, best live plays.
A great guest star with Paula Denning... things did get dicey with those other socialite NPCs.
The Cthulhu stuff is very limited so far, but I like the buildup of what seems like a cult harvesting the recently dead for immortality or to stay young.
I love the cast - and I was delighted to see Paula Deming!
Absolutely great. I hope they keep diving and still fingers crossed for Big Betty Briggs surviving
I'm loving the research that was put into those handouts in the library.
Great sequel to the bookshops series! Just top notch all around and once again enjoying the fantastic work of Mark Meer!
Fantastic stuff from Mark and the cast as always!! But also hats off to the ‘NPC’ this week! Great work!
Yeah Paula Deming on the show is amazing! Wishing the best for her character 🙏

Abigail Trout is back!!! 🤩
These sessions are wonderful, and have inspired my brush hand, to create some views of Arkham. Bravo, to all involved .
As a GM of close to four years, I have to say that the keeper here is excellent. Super storytelling and NPCs without smothering the players.🎉
Yoooo Abigail Trout mentioned! God I hope that Gladys becomes a mainstay. Or at least that her book does
Yet Another *_FLAWLESS_*_ Evocative Gripping episode!! You all are _*_SUPERLATIVE!!!_*

Ugh I love this channel finally a staple of call of Cthulhu
Their weekly Twitch stream is good too, the Australians. Funny and smart, they do a great job.
What a Great Group of Investigators!!! Let's Ride!!!
took me a second to recognize Paula! Great casting!
Fantastic stuff again. Graveyards is proving to be just as good, if not better, as Bookshops.
Thank you so much for sharing, as well as the historical traditions of the daruma. 😁😁 Beautiful work as always!
Nothing short of amazing, looking forward to the next instalment!!!

I hope we get more and more of this
makes me want to run a Call of Cthulhu game
I played CoC 3rd "way back when"...this current game mechanic looks different, even considering the tablet/electronic character sheets.
Graveyards is playing 7th edition CoC. One of the biggest differences is there's no Resistance Table.@@myevilplans
Keep in mind, scheduling a game and people understaning they dont always get "gold" for a victory will push certain groups away.

Excellent series. Looking forward to the next episode.
Mark really needs to use the Commander Shepard voice for a cop or something.
“Operation Cobra Fire Claw”
I’m detective O’Malley and this is my favorite shop on the Citadel.
History of Disease in Arkham. Seems like a book where every third entry is probably mythos related.
So happy to see Abigail Trout’s works again!
dammit how you gonna end the episode like that! Hanging on EVERY word!
Oh boy oh boy oh boy I've been waiting for this!
Damn you for this cliffhanger! Great episode!
Superb
I can't wait for another episode!
i love this show
Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful 🎉

Id play in a game with Mark. He's a great keeper.
I have a bad feeling Poppy won’t be around for long 😂
Right? A cinnamon roll in a horror story is deader then disco.
Hey, ya know what they say about…. curiosity….
Very interesting. I'll have to go back to ep 1 and watch from the start. Looks quite interesting indeed.
Is anyone else concerned for Pippa? This seems like a Stepford wives situation.
I am. She seems sweet and I do like her.
Oh yeah. A cinnamon roll with a tragic background in a horror story? She's doomed.
Yes... a very 'Stepford Wives' feeling... ?with a heaping tablespoon of 'Death Becomes Her'?
Great!
