i initially dismissed avianos pretty quickly because i found it really overwhelming to try and understand all of the mechanics, but now that i’ve seen you play it, i definitely need to give it a proper shot; it looks awesome!
Yep, it is a great game! I'm now trying to beat trials there (they unlock after "adult" difficulty). I can give you couple advices: 1) you can build buildings in several tiles on one turn, just dont press "done", but "x" on a controller, that returns you to tile choice. That works with recruiting too. 2) before you try higher difficulties - learn all ancestors upgrades, both 1st and 2nd stages on every step - they are vital to beat AI which is cheating (not my words, in custom mode you can see that AI difficulties after "adult" are called "cheater 1", "cheater 2" and so on xD ). Some upgrades may seem useless, but in some situations those saved my butt several times) 3) Very useful upgrade is teleport from Tricon, with upgrade and enough bones you can cast it twice a turn, so you can attack twice on 2 tile distance, or combine your units from two tiles into one and attack. It is very important in a late game. 4) Control your units in battle sometimes it helps to "hold", so enemy units approach you while your ranged units attack them, so you do not lose melee units. You may also "flee" a bit, but remember that ranged units always much slower then melee. 5) Surprise attack (upgraded in ancestors) is very good to attack castles. 6) when you units flee totally from battle map, they return to previous tile (if you attacked) or to yours random nearest tile (if you defended). 7) Most annoying thing - starting from 2nd difficulty, when you attack enemy with much larger army, they not just trying to flee, they destroy all buildings before! So remember, if enemy steals your tile with buildings - you will lose them anyway, even if you recapture the tile. I hate AI for this!!!! 🤬😤😂
8) Almost forgot! Very important! How rotation of ancestors work! There are 5 ancestors, on first turn you pick one from 3 random, and enemy picks one, but he cant choose yours. After that on the next round you will be choosinf from 3 ancestors except the one you picked in previous round and the one enemy picked. Then enemy chooses from 3 except those who were picked last 2 truns. And so on. So it is important to understand that you can never pick the same ancestor twice in a row, and you can block one ancestor from enemy on the next turn by picking him. And enemy does the same.
So he never ONCE tried to to talk to NPCs on Zoldath. Instead he went full Undertale Genocide route on the ""enemies"". Of course you can't actually beat Zoldath without talking so of course he thinks its unbalanced.
Devilition looks interesting, but is definitely not suited for an action focused streamer, since it requires patience and proper planning to efficiently use the available pieces and not waste the detonations of subsequent pieces on devils that will already be dead from previous elements of the chain. That being said, you did quite good for this being your first attempt at it and not having much experience (on stream) with similar (puzzle based) games.
In round 5 (at 1:07:20) that first piece with X pattern would have been perfect in the top left, killing 4 enemies with just that one piece (and one piece to trigger it). Nevermind, you got the juicy hit with a rocket a few pieces later.

First game i got gold on. Once i parsed what the symbols meant it became pretty fun.

Planet zoldath is a fascinating game, there's so many different ways to play it.

Based on the other steamers I’ve watched Baer did quite well at Devilition.
