    I'm at the beginning of month four and have taken 10 strokes off my game easily. Believe or don't believe, his instruction has worked well for me. I had the chipping yips terribly and don't anymore. Learning how to spin the ball helped me tremendously.

    This is the video that got me looking at this guy more closely. He was teaching the chip shot the way I had been doing it for years and no one ever before has done so. I chip very well but I could still learn the finer points so I'll get his book but there is one other thing that has changed my whole game here. This chip is just a very small swing and, according to Darrell,. a full shot is hit the same way. That I did NOT know. I thought I was "cheating" a bit by chipping this way and that it had nothing to do with the full swing. He demonstrates here what I was doing, flapping my wrists from side to side. No pro or anyone else pointed that out to me. I am 64 years old and have a very bad back. I can play all day now because this wrist stroke takes all of the stress off of my back. Thank you very much!

      Hi JR
      Search TH-cam for Moe Norman he relates the same technique as Darrell’s. you don’t hit the nail with the back of your hand with the hammer. Or search TH-cam for John Hensby. John has designed a terrific unique swing called Channel Lock for our aging golfers for free. The technique is designed for our aging bodies for accuracy and distance with very little effort.

      Brett Nixon Yes this is what senior amateur like me need. Darrell's teaching is one of a kind. I have learned a lot from Darrell. The channel lock swing by J.H. is also a very interesting swing method. Thumbs up for J.H. When I tried the channel lock swing it was a big surprise. I hit it much better without focusing on weight transfer, i.e. most of the weight is on my right foot as if I swing on the right leg only. Just setup as per J.H.'s method and hammer down. After impact, the momentum will pull me to the full balanced finish and all the weight will be on the front foot by itself. The low point position is much more consistent than conventional stance/setup. When first trying this swing the ball may leak to the right somewhat. After a while I can adjust my face/path to make the ball go the direction I want. This makes me to rethink about my swing and the importance of consistent low point control.

    This is one of the only teachers out there with some common sense. I'm so tired of people teaching "pretty swing" instead of Golf. I can't think of any other sport where there is such an obsession with the instrument used to play the game. Do you think that in tennis the player is thinking about the grip, backswing, lag, rotation, wrist angle, hip turn and the million other things we think about in a golf swing? Of course not because they're too busy playing the game. The focus is out there on where they want the ball to go. For some reason in golf we think we should be able to hit the ball perfect every time and if we don't we're convinced that something is wrong with our swing and we gotta find out what it is. So off we go to become a professional at another game called "drills". People need to come to grips with the fact that the tour pros have natural talent and not one has become a pro because of lessons. But the good news is that golf is easy. The ball is not coming at you 100 mph. No one is in your face trying to make you miss and no one is trying to take it from you.

      Molly: Actually, with a bit of practice it is even far superior to using the arms, because you can pick the clubhead up far steeper with the hands.

    It seems to me that you don't know near as much as you think you do if you hit all your shots like this with ALL HANDS. A hands player can't ever be good as it's so hit and miss with thin and fat shots. The upper body does move and it carries that club through the hitting area without a doubt so that hitting behind the ball is lessened so much. We don't need several ways to hit a golf ball and then pick a different one for reach shot. The set up will change but not so much the pass on the ball.
    If this is ONLY for new people to get them to make contact then it might serve a decent purpose.

    • @DarrellKlassen
      @DarrellKlassen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Denny: I spent a lot of time with many top PGA Tour players in the 1960s through the late 1980s, and all of the greats used ONLY their hands for the short game, including all of their chip shots. That's not to say it's the ONLY way to chip, but that it's what the tour players do. Average golfers still like to use the arms for this shot, and ALL I say is that the arms create FAR LESS backspin than do the hands.

    • @dennislaux
      @dennislaux 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you and admire the fact that you spent time with the greats in the golden age of golf. I wish I could have been there. I try to do all I can to keep the hands out of the swing because it demands perfect timing and at times you can play wonderfully that way I fully understand, but playing more with the arms being flung into the ball by a powerful body turn then letting the release happen more on it's own is a better way to play for me at least..
      We both know that there's no way that doesn't come with plus's and minus's in this game.
      We have all discovered the "secret" to this game a thousand times don't you think.
      All the best to you.

    I just started watching these videos and I have to say, the guy seems to be teaching the same sort of stuff that other YT coaches do. His release is the same as Mike Malaska's, gathering on the trail leg and firing off it is Jimmy Ballard, letting the body drag the club into the backswing and cock the wrists is Erica Larkin, target focus Shawn Clement as well as many others, and feel the clubhead is, well, Ernest Jones. I don't know, maybe people don't like to learn from someone who's heavy, or maybe he pitches (ha ha) his videos by denigrating other teachers (in which case I can understand the animosity) or maybe he tries to sell the message that golf is easy too aggressively (although Brian Sparks does that, rather well). I find his general approach to work as well for me, at least on woods, as most anyone else's. Frankly one could do worse, minus the aggressive salesmanship, of course.

    • @jmack619
      @jmack619 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You call that aggressive ? Ha ha

    • @jacquestaulard3088
      @jacquestaulard3088 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aggressive salesmanship? If you want aggressive, call on Hank Haney! The man who taught Charles Barkley! Look
      "Butch Harmon is the perennial No. 1, and he gets $1,500 per hour. That’s probably not a surprise. For everyone else, the prices range from short-game guru Dave Pelz, who is ranked No. 38 and charges $20,000 a day (yes, that’s correct) and No. 21 Hank Haney, who gets $15,000 a day, all the way down to No. 45 James Leitz, who charges $150 an hour."

    Mary Denesha:- I appreciate what you are saying is true but the fact remains that he will never get a lot of people (including me) to sign up if he can not walk the walk by hitting some balls down the line to show the results of his teaching, which is the excuse he uses on one of his videos where he is in his backyard because he says he does not have the room. He mentions that he can not afford to buy all that expensive camera equipment to show a down the line shot - rubbish, all you need is a cheap camera or a tablet and you are good to go. He is grossly overweight, has no flexibility and can not turn properly and as such he is purely an arm swinger. Anyone of the other teachers on here will tell you that the golf swing is both body turning movement and arm swinging movement in sync working together. He pats himself on the back too much about his past skill level and if he was any good we would have heard about him and I am 65. In conclusion, he sounds a great guy, friendly and likeable but unfortunately, not a good golfer or teacher. If you want to see a good teacher from years gone by, check out Tom Tomasselo on TH-cam. Good luck Mary. ( I know I misspelled his name along with a few more errors last time but it is my lack of typing skills and not intentional spelling mistakes).

      Your vitriol is unfounded! This man not only knows what he is talking about, can demonstrate it, but he has a gift for making it clear. His observation and application of the PROPER way to use the wrists/hands in an up/down manner is far better to understand than 'radial deviation' or (sorry Mr. Hogan-and you are incomplete by discussing pronation/suppination); Mr. Klassen has a VERY rare and useful way to discuss how the 'weight shift' works; he add amazing value to the notion of grip, not only the how but the most important aspect, the nearly 'touchless' pressure which allows the grip to 'rip.' [sorry for the poetic joke]. The putting drills are priceless, far better than those recommended by Phil Mickelson's 'Art of the short game.' Of course, a few hours daily with Mickelson will yield great results, but a few hours of serious practice will ALWAYS yield great results. Klassen's showing how to estimate the LANDING SPOT for the sand wedge, wedge and 8 iron are also rarely taught in one place, though I have seen casual one-off mentions here and there by celebrated pros, old and new. His CLEAR (well, nothing about the release is clear but at least it is true if you work at it) DISCUSSION of the release and what it is is absolutely priceless. His recommendation to use premium balls for practice and play is essential, as cheap balls spin at half the rate as premium balls. Darryll makes it clear what it seems only the pros know: you USE SPIN to control roll-out in chips, pitches, and even flops. Yes, his discussion and recommendation of how to learn to estimate the impact length in the SAND in a green side bunker is unique on youtube. One more things which is priceless and will save your back and knees if you love to practice is Darryll's SHOWING how you balance on your arches and take an address' then get into a right-side posture in preparation for the swing; how to take a finish that has nothing to do with the follow through....
      Look, if your tone weren't so dismissive and suspicious, I might have encouraged you to order the materials and give it a go. But, unless you are willing to give it YOUR BEST effort, it will do you little good. Ditto for Mr. Tomasselo or any other person with good intent. I didn't see any real shots or varying swings from Tomasselo, and didn't expect to. What are you supposed to do? Have Darryll and all other teachers use ShotLink or Shot Tracer Pro when his own students and himself are hitting well flighted and accurate shots? In his case, his student base has not insisted on it and if they did, his popularity would likely result in one of his students getting it as a gift.
      In any event, I really applaud you for looking into Darryll's work. Perhaps you will return to it in the future, after you have paid out big bucks to teachers with a stack of credentials. Maybe, in the end, you can sign up with Bubba Watson's teacher!

    Joe j, Iam a terrible typist and often make what appears to be spelling mistakes but in actuality it's just crappy typing and I should proof read first before I send it out. However I stick by what I say, especially that he just jabbers on a lot and NEVER shows anyone how to swing the club by hitting some balls because he is a crap teacher. If you want to see a vintage teacher from an earlier age then tune into Tom Tomasselo who is brilliant and you only have to read the comments to see why.

      Absolute rubbish. I can see through your scam and until you can show the results rather than just talk then you will never convince me. Any decent golf pro on TH-cam shows the results of what they are trying to teach students. I know that no world class player chips like this currently, but check the TH-cam video of the "1960 Masters"..you'll see this "choppy" technique used by the world's best of that era. For those struggling with their chipping, surely it can't hurt.
