As someone who played Golden first, this intro looks so much cooler. Golden's intro however feels like the opening to a television series so I guess that one fits more in line with the themes of the game. This one's more like a mystery to be solved.
+Codybean1 I feel like this one fits the theme of Persona 4 better. It has a really good sense of mystery which fits Persona 4's theme better. I love how this one has silhouettes of the party members, but it doesn't spoil anything about them. I didn't like how Golden kinda spoiled everyone's names from the beginning. I wanted to at least find out who everyone was on my own.
+Codybean1 I agree that this one focuses more on the mystery but I always felt like P4 wasn't really ABOUT the mystery. It was about that cast of characters. Maybe I just feel like that because I max-social linked it so I spent A LOT more time interacting with the characters AWAY from the main plot than I did interacting with the mystery itself but I think P4G's opening captures the feeling of those characters a lot better than this. This intro reminds me more of P3 (more focus on plot/mystery but shallower characterization).
Jonathan Grant I think it works better that an opening should focus more on the plot. It also doesn't spoil the characters and it really surprised me when I found out who they actually were(personality wise). I thought that P4 had a pretty dark atmosphere sometimes, and this captured it greatly.
+Peacherboy2 Eh, to each their own I guess. I can see where you're coming from but while PARTS of P4 are very dark, I wouldn't say that this is an accurate representation of the tone of the game generally. Again, that is from a max social link point of view though, where you spend a lot more time away from the main mystery.

In P3's case, I have a tendency to get burnt-out halfway through the game and stop playing for a while. Your team members also just kind of float into the group in P3, and while the character's varied personalities somewhat made up for this, I feel like the P4 and P5 method of introducing the character's first and then having them awaken to their Persona for plot reasons is much more rewarding from a gameplay and story perspective.
+Sumptuous Turkey Yukiko is bland and boring as hell. "I don't wanna inherit muh family inn! Oh wait, yeah I do lol" The only thing she has going for her is her looks and her friendship with the best girl Chie. GTFO, pls.
They're both good. Each just focuses on different aspects of the game. This is more on serious side and sets the mood for the mystery you're in for. P4G has a light-hearted approach. It's more about the good times and friendship. Yu only has a year in Inaba and combat can't fill every moment of it.
>4 years later Also, the “definitive edition” openings aren’t meant for the same thing like the original openings were. Golden and Royal’s openings are used to show what’s new in this version (third semester outfits, new characters), rather than show what the game’s about. This ain’t your first rodeo, let’s get on with it. Ironic, coming from me, as I’ve only played royal and golden, and now portable.
Yosuke: struggles on a bike Kanji: right I’ma beat some kids up Chie: in an elevator Yukiko: poses for photoshoot Rise: sliding across the floor Naoto: detective on TV Teddy: *Wheeeeeeeeee plop*
The2broproductions I'm actually pretty happy it's over. Atlus can finally stop milking P4 for most of its money, and start creating even better games. Maybe P5 will have as much (maybe even more) love than P4!
The2broproductions I mean, they passed their better time a long time ago, I think. Anyhow, Persona 5 looks great so far, but since milking P4 got them far, they could do it to P5 too.
I've just noticed that outside of the protagonist (Narukami Yuu), we never see his other group members directly. At first we only see their silhouettes, aka their shadows, and near the end of the video they are all shown through a camera lense. Here we basically see their public persona, or "tatemae", the way they present themselves to their surrounding and how their peers view them. Yousuke is this kinda cool looking city kid who messes up on his bike and looks somewhat awkward or goofy (see his difficulties of making friends with the country folk). Meanwhile Kanji is beating up other people and looks like a total ruffian and delinquent (but he's actually nice and only wanted to protect his mother's sleep from these biker gangs). Chie is a bit harder to grasp, but I think that this scene in the elevator is supposed to show how "unfeminine" she comes across. Her choice of clothing looks slack and she's yawning mouth wide open. Compare her lack of grace and traditional femininity to the next shot of Yukiko who looks just like this idealized version of a traditional Japanese woman and beauty. Your typical Yamato Nadeshiko with black hair, pale and fair skin and of course an old-fashioned kimono and umbrella. We later learn how she struggles with being forced to uphold this ideal of a Japanese woman, while at the same time she's being gawked at and constantly approached by men. In this shot it's very voyeuristic how that camera looks at her and tries to capture her. We also learned later on that Chie is jealous of her, but that Yukiko at the same time wished she were stronger, much like Chie. Rise on the other hand is your typical oversexualized idol who is constantly looked at by society and always has to perform her "act", unbeknown to the general society that she's actually a country bumpkin and much more normal than people would imagine. But she ahs to act liek that in front of a camera. Naoto is also pretty interesting as she's literally trapped inside the TV screens. She's enamored with detective fiction and especially the subgenre of hard-boiled fiction. This genre of detective fiction is much more rough, masculin and violent (and possibly cooler) than regular detective fiction. And here it seems like she's posing like one of those detectives might in order to look cool. However, it's also interesting to note that these hard-boiled detectives only exist in fiction, like in TV shows etc. So there's a double-meaning to her being trapped inside a TV, since she's aiming to fulfill role expections of fictional male characters. Now go back to the beginning of this opening and take a look at their silhouettes and how their dancing alongside the music. You can still see part of their public persona in there, but it's maybe not quite as exagerrated as in the later shots on camera. I think that we here see more of their true personality, or their "honne" in Japanese. Also, we're here discussing their shadows and look who's appearing at the end of that character reel, and even in color. ;)
+Mnm Drummer I like the Golden intro too, but it does give away quite a bit. There are like 2 spoilers in that intro. Although to be fair the last one is so subtle you wouldn't be able to guess it until you beat the entirety of the game.

I love how each Persona game has its own colour theme throughout, especially this one as it's bright yellow. So you'd assume it's a happy story, but in reality it's about a group of high school kids investigating a series of murders in a small rural Japanese town
This opening has so much more substance than the Golden one. After watching this you actually have a general idea of what the main cast are like. Their silhouettes behave differently and show their different demeanors and then the anime-style scenes they all get either enhance this idea you got first or show you another side of their personality. It's not nearly enough to know what they're all about but enough to get you invested and maybe go "this one person, I wanna know more about them". Meanwhile the golden opening is just the cast all continuing the ame dance like they're part of a single choreography and then all of them sitting on mopeds which lso provides no specific information about them. They could be anyone and you have no reason to be interested in who they are. However the only smart thing the P4G Opening had going for it was that they introduced the cast in a dance and then showed images that looked like still-images of people breakdancing only for you to figure out, after hours of gameplay, that those were not breakdancers but mangled corpses. Wish a nod that smart wasn't hidden in an opening that terrible. Hell even the Persona 4 Dancing All Night opening managed to breathe more life into the characters than the Golden one which is really sad.
Honestly, I think Golden needed that smart nod, because it made it better than it was before. I think the intro more wanted to show what good times you could have with these characters; what the relationship aspect would be about and focused less on the mystery. The game isn't just about the mystery.
Yeah I love this intro especially if you never played the game and you get a gist of the story. Also that part with Adachi and Dojima and especially when you look back in this intro after you finished the game was perfection
In all fairness, Golden was touted as the “upgrade” of the original, and the Golden opening largely features this fact. The characters dancing is just to add to it, but the bikes scene showcases the newly added Okina City, Shichiri Beach, beach trip on bikes, et c., and the ski shots introduce the newly added winter, and, well, ski trip. It’s more fore returning players than new ones, which is why I wish the original intro would play when you first start a new save.
I forgot to add, the Golden opening also showcases Morooka dying which happens at about the midpoint of the game so it’s a spoiler in a way (recognizable and understandable of the implication if you rewatch the intro at any point after Saki dies (i e. the first dungeon) lol
Maybe because she couldn’t see anyone’s shadows because she was last? Or maybe because in the title screen she was so far back and where she was standing was so bright it was like she never existed?
I love how the lyrics lost none of their applicability, even today. The focus may have shifted from television to the internet, but that perhaps only served to intensify the matter at hand.
I’ve been looking to play Persona 5 for a while, so I thought I might pick up Persona 4 for cheap to try out the series and see if I like it... and holy crap this is some serious gourmet stuff.
Regarding the opening, this is one of the cases where the original is better than the new one. In my opinion, at least. And for me it's not nostalgia or anything, cause my first time with Persona 4 happened to be Golden. That's not to say that the P4G opening is bad, I also really like that one a lot, but the song here I think is a bit better.
I SAW THIS OPENING YEARS AND YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS LITTLE ON A MAGAZINE DISK!! NOW I COMPREHEND!! I STILL REMEMBER THIS AMAZING OPENING!! Now gotta play persona
I don’t know why I love this one so much. Like I really like goldens but this is just so catchy and somewhat more emphasizes the more dark area of the game

it's amazing but my best is burn my dread
The line "life goes on with or without you" in my opinion describes the villain and the game perfectly.
Chie is such a cutie. I love her. That smile she gave on the elevator made my heart go *thump* lol...
I know right? 8) Chie
me too :D
+Sumptuous Turkey Get outta here with your shit taste. Chie is perfection.
XxWillScarletSoundxX nope chie is shit and yukiko is perfection
+Sumptuous Turkey Yukiko is bland and boring as hell. "I don't wanna inherit muh family inn! Oh wait, yeah I do lol" The only thing she has going for her is her looks and her friendship with the best girl Chie. GTFO, pls.
They're both good. Each just focuses on different aspects of the game. This is more on serious side and sets the mood for the mystery you're in for. P4G has a light-hearted approach. It's more about the good times and friendship. Yu only has a year in Inaba and combat can't fill every moment of it.
>4 years later
Also, the “definitive edition” openings aren’t meant for the same thing like the original openings were. Golden and Royal’s openings are used to show what’s new in this version (third semester outfits, new characters), rather than show what the game’s about. This ain’t your first rodeo, let’s get on with it.
Ironic, coming from me, as I’ve only played royal and golden, and now portable.
Yosuke: struggles on a bike
Kanji: right I’ma beat some kids up
Chie: in an elevator
Yukiko: poses for photoshoot
Rise: sliding across the floor
Naoto: detective on TV
Teddy: *Wheeeeeeeeee plop*
Chie living life to the fullest in that elevator
Singer:Amaazing Relationships
*Shows Kanji beating everbody
A maze not amazing btw( also nice pfp )
It's sad that the p3 and p4 era is over hopefully p5 is as good as both of those ill definetly miss the p4 characters though
The2broproductions I'm actually pretty happy it's over. Atlus can finally stop milking P4 for most of its money, and start creating even better games. Maybe P5 will have as much (maybe even more) love than P4!
***** only time will tell :) but no matter what we still have igor
Candondor victor Yup, Persona wouldn't be the same without him!
***** doubt it. I mean it's hardly on a major console. They'd do better to go multiplatform tbh. Niche titles do better that way.
The2broproductions I mean, they passed their better time a long time ago, I think. Anyhow, Persona 5 looks great so far, but since milking P4 got them far, they could do it to P5 too.
1:10 basically where I made my choice
i-im so happy to be ur gf neckbeard-kun
The choice of who's the worst girl?
OH MY GOD,YOUR NAME,YOU ARE A BRAZILIAN?
Rodrigo Campos yes
Chie is better
Also, we're here discussing their shadows and look who's appearing at the end of that character reel, and even in color. ;)
Great analysis. Except for Teddie. He is like Protagonist seen without any sillhouette and is shown directly ,and is never seen through camera lense.
@@tastethecock5203 because Teddie is a superior being, who doesn’t bother with public image, he is honest, he is pure, he is great, he is teddie

This song simply EXUDES swag

Coming from P5R, P4G was so much better
Adachi side by side with Dojima but out of focus is beautiful
This Intro is much better than the Golden Intro
It Has this mystery feeling to it which fits well in the series theme of "Truth"
I wonder why Naoto is freaking out on TV. Maybe she's giving a motivational speech about something.
Maybe because she couldn’t see anyone’s shadows because she was last? Or maybe because in the title screen she was so far back and where she was standing was so bright it was like she never existed?

Regarding the opening, this is one of the cases where the original is better than the new one. In my opinion, at least. And for me it's not nostalgia or anything, cause my first time with Persona 4 happened to be Golden. That's not to say that the P4G opening is bad, I also really like that one a lot, but the song here I think is a bit better.
Mahogany Vince absolutely agree. Golden overall is way better, but the original opening is way better.
