At least Miyazaki approved them, and in his deal with Disney he made it so they weren't allowed to change what the characters said and everything had to be 100% true to the story. He wanted to make sure that the story wasn't messed with in any way. That is probably why it is better than most dubs. Though unless you speak Japanese subs aren't much better because other then hearing the characters inflection the subtitles are oftern wrong anyway or shorted for readability and their is often stuff lost there as well. So I don't completely hate Anime dubs. Live action dubs are a diffrent story and are just awful.
I also watched this when I was younger and I loved it but only watched it once when it was on Netflix.(not on it anymore ;( ) After that I forgot all about it and then acouple years ago I was looking for a movie to watch after wolf children and I saw this and I watched it and I was like, "I remember this! I have to show this to EVERYONE I know!!".
This was my first EVER anime I have even watched. I was four(?) And I was sitting in my living room with my brother. I didnt remember much of this movie. But i always remembered Ponyo as "the fishy girl". Later when I was tryinf to find this movie (I was like 11), i kept thinking of a duck looking human fish. And so my brother and I rewatched It. Now fast forward a few years. Before my brother left to be stationed in Japan. We watch a lot of Ghibli movies together.

Just finished watching this for the first time. Was a pretty good movie, it had me smiling the whole way through, I thought the relationship between Ponyo and Sosuke was very real and it had a lot of sweet moments, as well as moments that had me laughing (mainly from me referencing Nostalgia Critic while watching it.) Really solid movie, plenty of imagination put into it, I liked it.
My parents don’t even know what Studio Ghibli is, but I went to my aunts house for a week once, and she had a Totoro towel and other Ghibli- related stuff and it made me a weird amount of happy

You should watch it again tbh. It’s a fun movie and one that I still rewatch occasionally despite being a teen. I hadn’t watched it for like 6-7 years before watching it again 2 years ago and I forgot how good and joyful it is. Makes me happy when I’m feeling down, it’s a really heartwarming movie.

I'm against dubs by default but Ghibli can't be wrong no matter what language.
At least Miyazaki approved them, and in his deal with Disney he made it so they weren't allowed to change what the characters said and everything had to be 100% true to the story. He wanted to make sure that the story wasn't messed with in any way. That is probably why it is better than most dubs. Though unless you speak Japanese subs aren't much better because other then hearing the characters inflection the subtitles are oftern wrong anyway or shorted for readability and their is often stuff lost there as well.
So I don't completely hate Anime dubs. Live action dubs are a diffrent story and are just awful.

This was my first EVER anime I have even watched. I was four(?) And I was sitting in my living room with my brother. I didnt remember much of this movie. But i always remembered Ponyo as "the fishy girl".
Later when I was tryinf to find this movie (I was like 11), i kept thinking of a duck looking human fish. And so my brother and I rewatched It. Now fast forward a few years. Before my brother left to be stationed in Japan. We watch a lot of Ghibli movies together.

Just finished watching this for the first time. Was a pretty good movie, it had me smiling the whole way through, I thought the relationship between Ponyo and Sosuke was very real and it had a lot of sweet moments, as well as moments that had me laughing (mainly from me referencing Nostalgia Critic while watching it.) Really solid movie, plenty of imagination put into it, I liked it.

I came to this song since it's my favorite studio ghibli theme. It's funny how people complain that tiktok ruined it, but they're the ones who insist on polluting the comment section with "tiktok this" and "tiktok that."
I remember watching Ponyo so much when I was young, I haven't watched it in such a long time I should refresh my memory, I used to love this movie.
You should watch it again tbh. It’s a fun movie and one that I still rewatch occasionally despite being a teen. I hadn’t watched it for like 6-7 years before watching it again 2 years ago and I forgot how good and joyful it is. Makes me happy when I’m feeling down, it’s a really heartwarming movie.
