By the way the singer, Bruce Dickenson is a full fledged pilot. After Iron Maiden stopped playing he ended up becoming an airline pilot. These days he flys the 747 with the plane wrapped in the Iron Maiden logo and the name of the tour. He himself flies the band all over the world with most of the crew, equipment etc.
I grew up listening to bands like Iron Maiden and it wasn’t until later on in life that I appreciated just how good of musicians these guys actually are and they’ve done it for decades. Props to Steve Harris who has been their driving force. Check out Number Of The Beast next.
I remember when this song was brand new! I was so excited to hear brand new Iron Maiden with their brand new singer! Last September I flew from Alaska to Denver to see them live. They performed this song with the same energy and intensity that you saw in this video. Even in their sixties they are still rocking it hard. They are definitely a band that grows on you the more familiar you become with the magnificence and wonder that is Iron Maiden!!!
Metal isn't my music of choice but like you, this is one of the best of the genre that I've ever heard and I had occasion to see this band live and they did this. You can't even know...I have never heard a band mixed as loud as these guys were. The drums were miked up in such an insane and yet perfectly crisp audio quality that each time he struck a drum head it sounded like a gun shot. It was LOUD, I've seen a lot of shows but I had to partially plug my ears because it was almost painful but still sounded great. I love this track for all the reasons you mentioned, Bruce Dickinson can really sing too.
Wow, MTV ruled my day back then…late for “home room” often! This would be Spring, ‘82, Ninth grade. Lucky to have been a teenager when MTV was rad AS FUCK!!
This will blow your mind. The singer, Bruce Dickenson, is a commercial airline pilot. The band has its own Boeing 747 and Bruce pilots it when they do world tours.
I was obsessed with iron maiden when was like 12 saw them once in the 80s when I was 15 hardest working band in metal and they play gigs in obscure places to try and bring the show to all their fans . Not many bands will do that they kept- keep it real 👌
This is on my favorite of the Iron Maiden albums "Number of the Beast". Back when it came out, there was a "show" that went around to some colleges called the Peters Brothers. I believe that the show was titled "The Devil in Rock Music" and was a live documentary of how Metal and other Hard Rock had secret backwards messages ("Put on there by the Debow himsef!") and that "Ya best not listen to this music otherwise the Debow will steal your soul and you'll go straight to hell!!" Needless to say, it was endless fun for the crowd of social degenerates (me, my friends and the whole crowd) to basically heckle and laugh at the ridiculousness. They would show how this terrible music would drive people to suicide, murder, etc. so, I say unto you, my friends, don't lose your soul to these Heavy Metallists with their infectious heavy grooves and screaming chainsaw guitars. They will only lead you down the path to PURGATOREH! Save ya sefs while ya still kin!!
'Run to the hills' was a song written by bassist Steve Harris, depicting both sides of the conflict between the native Americans and the cowboys... It was the first single from their 3rd album 'The number of the beast' in 1982. It was also a pivotal single (and music video) because Iron Maiden in 1982 had changed lead singers... and the band had to introduce a new vocalist Bruce Dickinson (Their first 2 albums were recorded w/ vocalist Paul Di'Anno, who left the band in 1981) ... Thankfully, the single was a hit and the album 'The number of the Beast' was the first Iron Maiden album to chart at #1 in the UK and sold platinum in the US... and Iron Maiden became a premiere heavy metal band of the 80's 🤘🤘😈
I'll never forget sitting at a red light in Flagstaff, AZ decades ago. An old pickup truck pulled up next to me, a "Rez" beater, with a Hopi driver headed out of town. This song was blasting forth from his truck. I nodded, he nodded, and we proceeded through the intersection.
tip of the spear, so many amazing powerful songs by Iron Maiden over the years. I highly recommend you check out Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Prisoner, The Number of the Beast, & Revelations. I would say The Prisoner and Revelations are easily my two favorite Iron Maiden songs. Back in my high school and college years, there was really nothing that sounded quite like them. poweful band. I think they are still under-rated and under-appreciated to this day.
This is their best song, they’re a fun band. Glad you checked it out. Don’t know if you’ve heard Holy Diver, by Dio or Killswitch Engage, but it’s fun like this.
This is their best known song - it is a classic, but not even close to their best. Watch something from them live - they thrive onstage. 🤘Up The Irons! 🤘
This song tells the same story alternating between the perspectives of the Plains Indians and the Cavalry with both groups sharing the chorus. Great song
This was my stuff back in High School. Maiden and Metallica were my number 1 and 2 bands in high school, and I had all their cassettes on repeat. They have so many great songs. Yes the drummer was fire. And you commented on loving the bass - Steve Harris one of the greatest bassists ever - and his signature "galloping" style riffs that chug on their tracks. Most of their songs are epic in sound and composition and most speak on historical events or mythological or stories of legends.
There is an intune channel i always listen to in my Tesla. It's called Iron Maiden & Metallica only. 24x7 without commercials. Just one song by IM followed by M.
Been a Iron Maiden fan since the beginning…..the lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, was given the nickname Air Raid Siren for those amazing vocals….UP THE IRONS! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
The singer, Bruce Dickinson is a true Renaissance man. He has mastered many skills, other then singing. Including fencing, which he has many world championship metals.
80s metal! Fun times back then. You should check out some others from that Era, like Judas Priest, Scorpions, Dio, Metallica, Motley Crue, Guns 'n Roses,..... There are so many more.
You're almost spot on with that Jack Black thing, my friend. Jack Black is, of this I'm sure, an Iron Maiden fan, but his absolute favorite singer is the late great Ronnie James Dio - similar in style to Bruce Dickinson, but even more bombastic. And also, arguably the most celebrated heavy metal singer ever, for good reason. He can be heard on many a classic with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own namesake band Dio (the former two bands have had other singers so you will have to do some googling). Or, if you want to see/hear Jack Black and Dio together, check out the video to the Tenacious D song "Kickapoo". As an added bonus, that one also features another departed icon, namely Meat Loaf.
Watched them live almost 15 years ago and man… To this day it’s still the best concert I’ve ever witnessed. The band is so professional, you can really tell when they’re up there truly how well versed every single one of the band members are in their instruments. Plus, Bruce is always in tune, even with age.
I saw comments about Bruce Dickinson being an airline pilot, but (not scrolling too far) he is also very accomplished in the sport of fencing, having competed internationally and was ranked 7th best in Great Britain when he stopped competing. Incidentally, Steve Harris, the bassist and main brain behind Iron Maiden, played on the youth team of the Premier League club West Ham United (I guess around 1970-75) before he put all his mind to Maiden.
My favorite Maiden song. The story is told from both the European and Native American sides of the European Conquest of the Americas. The White man came across the sea. He brought us pain and misery.
Fun facts; Bruce Dickinson has an IQ of 167, is a polymath, and a qualified airline pilot (he used to fly the Iron Maiden tour plane) Trooper Beer is also very nice. 😂❤
Hey....A great Maiden song is The Trooper. Would like to see your reaction about that song. It's my favorite Maiden title. You are making a great job. Enjoying it very much. Greats from Germany
I’ve listened to Maiden since the the 80’s and never thought about Jack Black sounding like Bruce. Now I can’t unhear it!! Also Fear of the Dark is my recommendation.
You should definitely check out Stranger in a Strange Land next. It's one of their best and shows that Iron Maiden isn't only based on galloping rhythm and fast stuff. If you prefer live performances then The Clansman, Sign of the Cross or Brave New World from Rock in Rio, 2001.

Iron Maiden are metal legends. They have a huge catalogue of awesome. Hallowed be thy Name live 1982 would be a great next do.
What he said
Yup yup great song too
I grew up listening to bands like Iron Maiden and it wasn’t until later on in life that I appreciated just how good of musicians these guys actually are and they’ve done it for decades. Props to Steve Harris who has been their driving force. Check out Number Of The Beast next.
Or, Phantom of the Opera, Great song! :)
So, are you awake now. 😀❤ "Flight of Icarus" is pretty amazing - Bruce Dickerson's voice is a force of nature.
One of my favorites!
The song that got me into Maiden, and metal, in general.
Bruce Dickerson??? Are you serious? DICKINSON!
@@Valfodr_jr Oops! It was a typo I swear.
@@6li8storm40 It's the exact same thing for me as well! But it was mostly Bruce Dickinson's voice that did it for me. 😊
Every Maiden track is based on historical events, people, novels, or myths. Every song truely tells a story🤘
Shame they indulged in anti white jewish propaganda
Keep Going! They are a band that will get you up and you'll learn a history lesson at the same time!
I remember when this song was brand new! I was so excited to hear brand new Iron Maiden with their brand new singer! Last September I flew from Alaska to Denver to see them live. It’s Steve Harris’s Galloping baseline which really gives Iron Maiden their signature sound , one and a two and a three and a four and a 🤘😎🤘
This was THE song that got me in to Maiden 40+ years ago. THE best band.....EVER
Metal isn't my music of choice but like you, this is one of the best of the genre that I've ever heard and I had occasion to see this band live and they did this. For the most part, I prefer when people react to album versions of songs, but Iron Maiden Live is such a cool experience.
The perfect version is any live maiden proformance
Bruce Dikenson has one of the best, most recognizable voices in metal. Run to the Hill is an awesome song to listen while you're driving .
Been a fan for over 40 years. Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live) is a must. Good example of their live show. His vocals are insane on this one.
I met Bruce Dickinson back stage in the hospitality room in Dayton, Ohio. He was a compete gentleman!!!❤❤❤
I was obsessed with iron maiden when was like 12 saw them once in the 80s when I was 15 hardest working band in metal and they play gigs in obscure places to try and bring the show to all their fans . Not many bands will do that they kept- keep it real 👌

saving your soul while taking your money line from holy smoke. funny official video where they make fun of preachers.
It was satisfying watching your bad mood go away and that permanent grin grow 🤘😁

The One and only Iron Maiden!
There is SO much to Iron Maiden- 61yrs old, be listening to them since Iron Maiden with Paul Di'Anno.
Saw Maiden at Reading Festival 42 years ago! They were awesome!

Do it.

Iron Maiden is best served live. 🤘
I love Iron Maiden
Metal, in all its glorious genres, is a rabbit hole, it will take you places you never thought possible.
Bruce Dickinson is one of the greatest singers ever. That’s Maiden’s signature sound, that gallop is kick ass. ✌️
Polo, let me introduce you to the Lead Singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce, “The Human Air Raid Siren” Dickinson 👊 UP THE IRONS 🤘🤘

Up the Irons!
Lead singer has a phd in music, also was an airline pilot, flies the bands personal 747.
And is/was an Olympic level fencer.
thanks for the reaction. They're awesome in concert too!
Up the irons! So many great tracks to choose from🤘🏼
This song tells the same story alternating between the perspectives of the Plains Indians and the Cavalry with both groups sharing the chorus.

Same with my classmates. I was more into punk and HC. But I did love Maiden.
Bruce Dickinson is a classically trained opera singer who just so happens to rock!
One of the best live shows of all time.
Legends!!!

Love the Jack Black connection, now I can't unsee it; despite having followed Maiden live since I first saw them in '83.
Had to drop in for Maiden. I don't know what you listened to beforehand, but this will take care of it!
In the movie “School of Rock” there’s an Iron Maiden decal on the front door interior.
Go on board with “Aces High”... quite an Iron Maiden song. Enjoy the flight!
I need more maiden 🎉
I love the smile you had throughout.
My Favorite Iron Maiden tune

Lead singer, Bruce Dickinson has a great metal voice!
Watched them live almost 15 years ago and man…
To this day it’s still the best concert I’ve ever witnessed. The band is so professional, you can really tell when they’re up there truly how well versed every single one of the band members are in their instruments.

My favorite Maiden song. The story is told from both the European and Native American sides of the European Conquest of the Americas.
The White man came across the sea. He brought us pain and misery.
Fun facts; Bruce Dickinson has an IQ of 167, is a polymath, and a qualified airline pilot (he used to fly the Iron Maiden tour plane)
Trooper Beer is also very nice. 😂❤
Iron Maiden's "Evil that Men Do" is a personal favorite... One of my favorite solos in there anyways. Good reaction.
