    The aspect I love most about Iron Maiden is that every song is a story or a history lesson. I recommend either Powerslave or Rime of the Ancient Mariner

    Iron Maiden don't just sing songs they tell stories with them, The Trooper is about the charge of the light brigade.
    I know alot of people who passed their English exams by writing about the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Not by reading the poem but by listening to Iron Maidens song.

      Back in the 80's right after the Powerslave album came out we studied The Rime of The Ancient Mariner in my high school English Lit class. I brought my tape in for the teacher to check out. He ended up playing the song for the whole class and we spent a couple days discussing the song. Not just the song and poem, but why studying the older and classic literature and history was important. He used this album to underscore his point. Even the hardest of metal bands are often well educated and literate in the classics. Not just Maiden, but many heavy metal (and rock) bands pull from literature, history, and mythology to write their songs.

    Unlike a lot of metal bands, you can hear exactly what the Bassist is doing. He loves those triplets. He's got a lot of endurance to play like this for an entire set at a concert.

    • @matthewvalenti1348
      @matthewvalenti1348 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nitpicking a bit but to be technical, a triplet and a gallop aren’t the same. Though Steve does use both many times throughout their discography.
      A triplet would have all three notes being equal in length (think Phantom of the Opera). That’s not the case for a gallop.

    • @ShuKatashSam
      @ShuKatashSam ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@matthewvalenti1348 True, (NOT nitpicking at all). The gallop(in this case) is an 1/8th note followed by two 16th notes, not triplets. But yes, he does play straight triplets on other songs. Thanks for catching this!

    That Iron Maiden sound is a combo of bassist Steve Harris's "galloping horse" bass line, and Adrian Smith playing that red, odd shaped, guitar. That guitar is a "lawsuit" Ibanez Destroyer. Back in the day Japanese companies were making copies of American guitars. The thing is.. they were better! Ibanez, ESP, and Greko got sued up the ying yang. But.. it put them on the map. The Ibanez Destroyer is a copy of a Gibson Explorer... only better! BTW, if you really want to take a crash course in Metal, check out a video called Heavy - The Story Of Metal 2006. It starts with Black Sabbath and ends with Tool, Korn, Marilyn Manson, etc... The original 'sound' of Metal was created by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. One day at his factory job he accidentally got is finger tips chopped off in a machine. Refusing to give up guitar, he invented his own fake finger tips and down tuned the guitar. It made a deeper 'heavier' sound. Heavy Metal Was Born!

    Flight of Icarus is another.

    For my money this is THE definitive Iron Maiden track. Starts at a gallop, doesn't slow, ends at a dead stop. Kinda like the charge described

    They do metal RIGHT!

    Steve Harris actually records two Basslines a low one and a high one! That's why the Bassline is so clear!

    The guitars and bass simulates the galloping horses, while the drums simulates the cannon fire

    They have a beer called the trooper.... it is a great medium bodied 🍺. Not cheap to buy because of import costs, but worth a try

    I really recommend a marathon from their first album to the last. Every album has a concept and it's nice to follow the evolution

    Please, please, please consider listening to Hollowed be thy name again but, this time watch the live performance from 1982. It is definitely in their prime and an unbelievable performance! I feel the last time you watched a live performance was a missed opportunity because it was probably 30 years after the song was recorded.

    a lot of the energy youre feeling from the drums also comes form the bassist. he's an incredibly unselfish bassist that really dedicates himself to complimenting the drums, which it is their very basic role but few adhere to it like he does, in the metal genre anyway

    Maiden! Maiden! Maiden! Up the Irons! Consider "Fear of the Dark" live at Rock in Rio and "Dance of Death" En Vivo. Also, you can never go wrong with "Number of the Beast"

    How I got into Maiden in 1986: while being the biggest dork in class, the "pretty & cool girl" was always very nice to me. She asked me, in front of other cool kids, what I wanted for Christmas. I got nervous and wanted to seem cool, so I said "an Iron Maiden album." And I got NOTB on vinyl, and have been a die-hard fan for 35+ years.

    As many bands Iron Maiden tells you a story through the lyrics if you pay close attention. It describes the charge of the Light Brigade during the battle of Balaclava in 1854 in The Crimean War with scenes taken from the 1936 film The Charge of the Light Brigade, starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. A true lesson in history right there.
