Viper instructor guy here , F-16A through C, Eagle as well. Neck injuries, upper cervical spine issues yes, whiplash, no. It's due to the load that we bear (G) based on the need to turn and fight the plane. The newer helmets JHMCS with targeting apparatus built in made the helmets heavier and in turn under high repetitive G while twisting and turning your neck can cause issues. Most all of us have been to the chiropractor at some point, and its not just the neck, Lumbar sacral (low back) takes a huge amount of load under high G with the whole upper body weight concentrated about the lumbar spine. Add to this the need to turn twist and pivot the head and torso under load and its compounded. But it's not an injury that is associated with the whiplash motion. Hope that helps.
Love the 555th... The Triple Nickles...built the Academy 1/32 F 16 model kit in their honor with their decals. They have quite a great history serving this country...
I was in the air national guard from 1980-1996 in New Mexico flew A-7corsairs and F-16s blocks 30-40 was an honor to serve my country and there is nothing like a 9.5g high speed turns 65yrs old now 🤔 but I would get back in that cockpit tomorrow Godbless
Hmm, I was in the Air Defense support Battalion @ Ft Bliss MOS 16R Vulcan both Towed & Self Propelled in 1984 to 1988 and cross trained on the Chaparral and Stinger & Roland Missile systems, While at Mcgregor Range In NM an A-6 out of Holloman AFB would fly to gives us simulated target practice by allowing himself to be tracked that A6 was flown by a Major from what I was told and when he was done and had to RTB he would fly low over us, ver very low and at 400 knots ! it was a trip. I was part of the Line of sight test project to replace the Sgt York Divad system that failed, the one competing in that was the ADATS by Martin Marietta, Rapire by British Airspace, Liberty by Chance Vought and Roland by Hughes aerospace. We operated out of Oscura Range.

So, way back when when I was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol I was lucky enough to get chosen to attend one of the Summer programs. So I end up at an Air Force Base at the Guest House. Or military hotel. So there is this guy working the switch board. He is a USAF academy cadet. So we started to talk and I asked him why he is not doing all that glamor stuff they show in the school catalog or in the recruiting movies? He smiled and said, "It builds character...." I'll never forget it....
My old fighter squadron. Probably the same jets I worked on in 1994 when the 526 FS from Ramstein AB, Germany transformed into the 555th FS during Operation Deny Flight.
I flew heavies in the USAF for 22 years, 17 of those in the KC-10…I have ZERO regrets about that and have had a few rides in -16’s and one in an F-15B… great airplanes, but a boring mission.. I saw every corner of the world while I flew tankers and loved every minute of it…
@@86309 not the airplane, just the mission… you don’t really do anything in fighters, except fly CAP and possibly shoot down other airplanes…how often does that happen..?? In heavies, every time you fly, you’re doing your mission…it’s just my .02…. There’s an old AF saying..”There’s not a bad flying job in the AF”…
She has the look of concern throughout much of the video. I don't blame her. I would be a concerned about the situation too. Getting into a chair that has a rocket attached to it for the first time would be unsettling.
My Daughter is at West Point. They do similar cool things - for example she got to go 3 days without sleep setting up and defending fire bases in the field this week. I told her she should have gone Air Force....
@@M60gunner1971 It was a joke.... I'm guessing you know that, but it's hard to tell. Super proud of her taking the hard road. She just finished Air Assault school.
She should have her hair braid tucked into the collar of her flight suit if they are going in the air; if they pull high-G maneuvers, that would be like being hit in the face with a stick or a whip if it starts to fly about. I suspect that once she graduates she will have to get it cut shorter, And her fingernails look longer than regulation too (when I was a cadet I was always getting in trouble for not shaving close enough - how times change!)
Not everyone can, or else, would want to be either a Cadet or a Midshipman in The United States Military, Naval, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine Academies, respectively in West Point, New York, Annapolis, Maryland, Colorado Springs, Colorado, New London , Connecticut, and Kings Point, New York. On the part and parcel of Times Archives, yet another Awesome Possum Military Video is featured for Our viewing pleasure and edification, featuring Future 2d LTs of the United States Air Force, some of which, may become Fixed Wing, Rotary Wing or Tilt- Rotor Aviators. From minutes 2:12 to 2:26 is classic. It's just like today when an adult tries to explain something to their millennial family. It's like talking with a jet engine running. You may as well just save your time!! Hilarious!! If I had a dime for the many times I had the same expression...

This video clip is all about showing an attractive cadet flying in the back seat of F-16 fighter jet in Italy.

What a great comment of a KC-10 tanker‘s pilot about “I saw every corner of the world while I flew tankers and loved every minute of it…”

Are neck related injuries like whiplash common on these planes if you are a pilot ?
