  • SRI LANKA CRICKET
The Aussie cricket team is in Sri Lanka at the moment. It's their first tour of the county in 8 years, but it's come at a really difficult time for Sri Lankan people. Last night more than 30,000 fans packed the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Some were excited, some a little nervous. But mostly, they were just happy to be there. Outside the stadium it was a different story. Sri Lanka is running short on nearly everything. People line up for hours just to get petrol, food and medicine are running out and there are constant black outs. Last month there were big, violent protests and the government had to enforce a curfew. All of this is why some of the Australian Cricket team were a bit hesitant to tour the country. They said they didn't want to use resources that could be going to the locals. But others say its a good thing because it promotes tourism and ticket sales go toward buying much needed supplies. Plus Sri Lankans absolutely love cricket and while this won't solve the countries problems, it's a welcome distraction.
    STATE OF ORIGIN
The Maroons have taken out the first game of the State of Origin, which is great! Unless you're from New South Wales. Olympic Stadium was packed full of blues fans who'd come to see the first home game in a couple of years and while it started well enough, Queensland ended up with a 16-10 victory. It was the Blue's first loss on home soil since 2017. The next game will be in Perth on June 26th.
    WEEDY SEA DRAGON
Now we're going under the water to find out more about these strange and colourful creatures - weedy sea dragons! Sadly the sea dragons are under threat. The good news is a group of citizen scientists in Sydney are coming to the rescue and have been looking into the lives of these unique creatures since 2001. They are threatened because they have very narrow areas where they can live and they also don't have a lot to protect themselves. So, they really can't swim fast at all and they have a very specialized diet. That diet includes crustaceans, sea lice, mysid shrimp and fish larvae. But it's not just their picky eating habits that's putting them in danger. Their biggest threat comes from climate change and the way climate change is affecting kelp and therefore basically wiping out their home. The big storms which hit our coast recently have also been eating away at the Great Southern Reef, which is home for these guys, and that hasn't been good for their population numbers. Which experts reckon could be in the ones or two thousand. While there's still not a lot known about the sea dragons, scientists hope their research can help preserve them and other marine wildlife in the process.
    BEACH HUG BRAZIL
Superheroes are typically known for their incredible strength and speed, but these superheroes have taken a more gentle approach. About 5000 volunteers met at various spots across Copacabana in Brazil to hold hands and create a giant hug for World Oceans Day!
    RUBBISH OCEAN
For the past two weeks people from across Europe and the UK have joined forces for a heroic rescue mission to protect marine life and remove more than 23 tonnes of waste from the sea around the island of Ithaca. The biggest polluting culprit - fishing nets. According to organisers they pulled out 25 big fish farm nets, which will now be recycled and turned into yarn to make things like clothing and carpets.
    GREEN HERO DOG
And Sam here is proving that Superheroes don't always walk on two legs. With the help of his owners this heroic border collie is tackling pollution at his favourite park in Chile. Picking up rubbish like masks, bottles, food wrappers, even clothing. Sam has become such a familiar figure around the park he's now been turned into a cartoon that is used as the park's anti-litter campaign.
