    I mainly shoot on manual mode, drop the ISO into auto, set the exposure compensation to -2/3 to protect some highlights, put shutter speed on the thumb dial (usually keep it at 120 as starting point), set aperture to the front dial (usually keep it at f11 as starting point)… off you go 👍

    I've been using Panasonics for video and Canon for stills, but once the S5 IIX came out, I decided to have this hybrid camera cover both -- since I am increasingly being asked to do both stills and video these days. Thanks so much, Paul. Aperture priority is the way I mainly shoot, so you've given me a lot of confidence this new Lumix camera will make my life even easier. And like you, unless I'm shooting sports, I'm aperture-based. Thanks for the video.

    I mainly shoot in manual mode on my S5II in RAW with flat profile so it is easier to adjust and less contrasty to start with. When shooting macro, especially with moving insects like butterflies and dragonflies, I use manual aperture, auto shutter and auto ISO.

    • @JonackFilm
      @JonackFilm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you only use RAW and no JPEG? If you have Lightroom or any other software I can recommend using JPEG also. The Lumix Color Science is very good imo. Especially in low light am I not able to replicate the accurate colors in Lightroom by myself. The landscape color profile is amazing and so portrait for human skin also. The JPEG color profile gets then backed into the Raw file but you are flexible like a RAW file anyway. I don't think a flat color profile is beneficial for Photos. In VIDEOS Yes. But a RAW file has already all the information in it. Maybe try one day only JPEG :)

    When it comes to RAW and colours, if you work in Lightroom, it has camera matching profiles (instead of "Adobe Standard") - i.e. you can still give your RAW the Panasonic Natural colour treatment you get in JPEGs without sacrificing the flexibility of RAWs, should you want it. Possibly useful even when you use JPEGs but need to do a bit heavier editing on one or two of them (major exposure changes or whatever) - you can then do that on RAWs (assuming you shoot RAW+JPG like most).
    Oh and I use aperture priority most of the time as well, with minimum shutter speed 1/60. Shutter priority or full manual for sports, yeah. Common practice I think.

    • @JonackFilm
      @JonackFilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true, I shoot often raw+JPEG. Sometimes it safes you when you make some mistakes. The minimum Shutter speed setting is handy, but doesn't work with longer lenses. I had issues with my 70-200 mm with this setting. Normally the camera chooses a Shutter speed according to the focal length. This gives you most of the time the correct Shutter speed for like 143mm or so. The minimum Shutter speed setting overwrite this.

    Hi Paul. Thank you for the video. I recently purchased Lumix S5 and there is one very annoying thing. When I use monitor and shutter speed is slow there is a terrible motion blur on the screen. I set monitor fps to 60fps which is the highest. I used Canon in the past and never came across such issues. Is this something normal with this camera?

    • @JonackFilm

      It is called the live preview, it Shows basicly what the final image will be. Also the Shutter speed. This is use full for light trails in long exposure. But you can turn it of in the settings.

    Hey Paul.
    From all the TH-camrs I've seen so far I think you're the right person to ask.
    So I just bought a Lumix S5 and I've been using it on two short occasions only so far. I'm coming from a m43 system Lumix G7 to be exact. I've noticed that my S5 is slightly getting warm on the bottom of the camera just from taking few snaps and messing around in menu settings for like 10 to 15min. I haven't recorded any videos not did I have had it overheating and turning off, it's just very surprising to me that I can feel it's warm so quickly compared to my old camera that never ever got warm at all as far as I remember. Is it normal in case of a bigger gear with more power drainage to to processor etc? I would really appreciate to find out if this is something "normal". it's not hot like an older smartphone after a heavy use, but it's more comparable to a hot Latina in July😅😂

    • @JonackFilm
      @JonackFilm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello :) so I noticed my Camera getting a little bit warm after some heavy video use.... So more like a warmish warm like a good Latina next to you on a netltix and chill day. But not when I fiddle around in the menu o. O
      I cannot confirm your senses or anything but if the camera works it works. Maybe you can compare it to a similar camera in a camera store?

      I think I've got the camera that has some fault then . But I'll have to find some time and a good store as you mentioned where I could actually compare if this is something normal but I really doubt it is. Thanks a lot.
      PS. I bought it in a different country and I live in none EU Britain so there's too much hustle at the moment to send it in to a guarantee and all that. Fucken Brexit voters man XD Have a good day, look after yourself!

    I am basically Sean O'Connell from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, so I use only M mode with the LCD flipped around backwards.
    Just kidding, I use M a lot for landscape, S for photos of my kid, and A for street photography to prefer deep DoF, sometimes for portraits I like M with auto ISO. I use Auto if there's something I need a quick photo of if I don't want to miss it whether it be a shot of my toddler, a street shot, or something. I tend to use natural profiles but once I get my s5ii, I'm looking forward to trying some LUTs with the xpan crop. I like working with Lightroom so on canon I'd take my image in and mess with it a lot but on my Olympus I really almost never need to touch my colors unless I'm doing a creative edit. Panasonic looks like it has the best colors I've seen so far, so I'll have to play with all of the profiles.
    Looking forward to hopefully being in Germany this summer and getting some landscape shooting in Bavaria.
