    I just sold 6 of these through our city’s online auction from our golf course. They all ran and operated just fine - 4000-5000 hrs on each one. They all went for $2000-3000 each! Amazing. Sold 2 pallets of brand new Jacobsen reels and parts too. You’re about a month late with this video, man. Bummer.

    I made the mistake of starting an old cat on the diesel in the tank lately. Smelt like varnish. She fired right but on it, just ran her for a little while. Plan was to drain and flush the tank. Decided to fire it up once more for a listen before I left, ended up with a fuel system full of a dirty diesel/water mix. Never again, had to push a load of clean fuel through the system from a 20l container. Eventually got the gunge out and got her fired back up. It was sat no more than 5 years. Never again!!

    I just bought a Ransoms motor 350D reel mower from my local golf course had went by it off and on for 3 weeks and could never manage to stop and look at it but was almost certain it said 400.00 on the sign finally stopped and looked sure enough 400 and everything works has a 40 hp 4cyl Kubota cruses about 22-25 mph (pretty sketchy) on the road i obviously had to buy it. I have no idea what i'm going to do with it thinking about a custom 4x4 buggy using narrowed Chevy k10 axles driven by the hydro drives would use 2 fronts so i could have 4 wheel steering but who knows

    • @abpsd73
      @abpsd73 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I bought one of those a few years ago, thinking I could use the engine in something like a Bobcat. Never got around to doing anything with it and sold it for more than I paid. I found the linkage for the hydrostatic control was sketchy, the thing would just start moving without touching the pedal.

    Those three cylinder Kubota engines are very common on bucket trucks, usually the same fuel as the truck, to operate the hydraulics without running the truck engine. I worked on a lot of them in the gasoline version. Not a hot-rod mill to be sure, but interesting engines, probably a workhorse for small tractor and lawn applications.

    We used to have a Jacobsen 5 gang reel mower here. Mechanical gear boxes, not hydraulic. You can't let the weeds grow too tall when it's dry though. The reels lay the tall weeds down and don't cut them. They pop right back up behind you :( and then you need the regular (narrow) mower to clean up. Still, it was a fun machine (when we weren't rebuilding the gear boxes)

    You should run the glow plugs for a little longer. These Kubota diesels like their glow plugs.

      Almost every mower that the golf course I work at has a Kubota diesel engine.

      You should never use starting fluid in a Diesel with glo plugs.notice it started right up when he used glo plugs

    A common problem people have with gas powered ones is seat/safety switches cutting spark. Been there myself a couple times😅

    Reels work fairly well on StAugustineGrass if you buy a front-reel unit with height guide wheels but if you run over the grass with front wheels first it looks like crap. StAugustine actually *loves* being cut by a reel, it can be kinda stringy and most places its used you get a lot of blown sand wearing the regular blades round so you get a "pulled pork" end on the grass blades but a reel won't suck sand.

    I found a Jacobson front-deck mower like that at my local junkyard with a bad hydro and
    nice Kubota 950. Got it running and paid $100 for the motor and radiator.

    The best mower ever made for a golf course i spent most of my childhood and teenage years using and riding on one of these 😂
    Take those reels off and sharpen the bed knife and it will cut like butter plus you can set the height of it as well to better cut the grass

    We had a John Deere 2653 reel mower at the golf course. It satout in the weather for about 10 years of so. This winter the crew fired it up, cleaned it up and it is now back in service.
