Since i became a more productive person, got married and had a kid, these "switch off games" are the absolute best for me, less is more, and im finding this style of play mainly in nintendo games. Everytime i try a game that i wanted to play in the past, but i see that i have to talk to characters, read long conversations, using skill points... I just lose interest so fast.
My switch off game have always been Mafia 2... Man i feel so happy everytime i get into a car and drive all around those vintage cities listening to "life could be a dream"
switch off games saved my mental health, i was the cringy tryhard raging competitive player, glad i got off this, now i just play relaxing games, no friends screaming at my ears, no need to invest money inside games, just me really enjoying life and this little piece of entertaiment that is games, BTW YOUR ALBUM IS FIRE AND THE VIDEO ASWELL
My current switch-off game has been Pokémon Scarlet. I've been shiny hunting Scream Tail looking for one with a rare mark and it's kind of relaxing to just trace the same path and give them all unique names based on things that I saw or did during the day :3 It's been getting less fun since I hit 200 and the eye strain became a problem but it's still relaxing kinda
For some reason, one of my switch off game is deep rock galactic, i've sunk so much hours in the game that it just became a "talk and chill" game whenever i play it
my favourite switch off game is celeste classic. speedrunning such a short game just means you can spend a few hours zoned out, watching a video and then if the run happens it happens. it gives me a nice goal to progress towards while just being something i can put 50% of my brain into until im on good pace... i know a lot of folks find speedrunning stressful but i like the grind and find it really relaxing, a good flow and rhythm..
No I totally get that, I have some decent times in some of the Tony hawk games and speed running them was actually really relaxing. I also really wanna play Celeste, I know I'll enjoy it
Obviously a short hike is an easy recommend, so is slipstream the racing game, boomerang fu is actually kinda relaxing even with just bots, clubhouse 51 if you got a switch, tangledeeps real fun to dig at an objective constantly, tinykin for the 3d platformer itch, and cavern of dreams for it's atmosphere!
I would add a bit of a warning when it comes to playing older games. It's all fun until your hyped to play through a classic from your childhood, download it and it doesn't work so now you need to go down a rabbit hole of fan patches and altering resolutions files, audio syncing, etc.
Art of Rally literally hooked me and made me so happy for the while I was playing it. Should try it out sometime. Soundtrack and Visuals are just bliss for me.
Recently ive been digging Splatoon: Side Order, i can easily get myself into the groove of mindlessly upgrading my weapon and progressing each floors tasks.
Darktide somehow became my most chill game ever. Something about the mix of melee, shooting, movement and build variety puts me in a trance like state, even when having to focus on a clutch.
for me, hotlapping in gran turismo 4 has been my favorite "just do it and feel it" type of games, i am an adept driver, nowhere near the skill of an f1 driver, but i do enjoy just taking corners and counter steering, its super super soothing, and i usually put a show on my second monitor and just hotlap when im a little bored and tired at the same time.
My game is Fallout 4 or MX vs ATV Untamed I literally remember every single route for Fallout 4 to the point where I just chill In MX vs ATV Untamed, it’s just fun, simple, and a good soundtrack (it came out in 2007)
the ultimate switch off games for me we're games like the original ratchet and clank games and in the ps3 era lbp 1 and 2, just going into create mode to create whatever, messing with the physics and battling with friends were some of my best memories of gaming period.
GTA4 is my go-to switch off game, just install a trainer, spawn a car, turn the radio on and drive until you realise you spent 5 hours just drifting down the same places and doing loops
skate 3 has been my switch off game from before i can remember. i love the term "switch off game" too cuz ive been playing games like this for so long i just never knew what to call them lol
I've been exploring the genre recently and I can recommend a few: severed steel on the easiest mode if you really like fps and want to feel cool af. Alba: wildlife adventure short cozy take pictures of things on the island. Toridori a hand crafted find the differences 3d diorama game. glass masquerade is a simple puzzle game with really funky looking pieces.
I have to point out, there is a world of difference between relaxing games and "switch-off" games, as seen with some of the ones that you (I feel) wrongly labelled as "switch-off." Relaxing games are great, but they should still make you think and challenge you to an extent, otherwise they're more like a toy than art. Games like Journey, ICO, The Witness, Katamari, Untitled Goose Game, Pikuniku, and Lunistice can all be very relaxing while still providing you with a meaningful experience. In this hectic world, you should let your brain regain composure, not switch off. Reading is also really good, for that same reason.
My big switch off games are big grindy games. Throwing on music or a stream and playing OSRS or grinding in WoW for hours is what does it. If you haven't played Outer Wilds though, I am here to spread the gospel. Do not look anything up about it, it's a game where learning anything about it can be a spoiler that can rob you of incredible moments. You can only play it once, and it has one of if not the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever listened to in a game.
"[Lunistice] never gets frustrating" me: [had to take a break from the game because I got frustrated on a level] xD don't get me wrong I enjoy the game, I've played it on Switch so maybe it's my skill level and/or the controls great video, would love to find more recommendations for "switch off" games ^_^
A switch off game that i would recommend is Locoroco for the PSP, such a chill and cozy vibe but also it has a bit of challenge, it's not too much but some parts can be challenging
Another game with similar switch off vibes to power wash simulator to me, is hardspace shipbreaker. You just take apart old spaceships for salvage and it's really nice
mirro's edge catalyst, its the only game ive ever played where just randomly running around with the music from the game itself made me feel like i was in another dimension. that game is absurdly good shame EA killed off its online servers for the unique user generated running challenges.
Bruh I fkn love mirrors edge catalyst! I actually do the same thing! Even tho I've finished the main story just running around and collectables is really fun even tho I can see why most people would get bored
These sort of games have been saving me lately. I just can't really get into story-based games lately and I just want to be able to play without having to think super heavily. It doesn't one hundred percent fit this since there is some story but my goto has been My Time at Sandrock recently.
Being tired of modern games got me going back to my ps1/ps2 library, been having a blast playing some older titles like G-Darius, Tekken, Guilty Gear, Bloody Roar etc. with my friend, feels like we're kids again😂
Lil Gator Game is a god tier switch off game. My personal favourite is Descenders. Even though it can be stressful it's a really great game to get in the flowstate for.
My switch off game is Old School Runescape. Sure there's Raids and High attention activities, but I really just enjoy afking some woodcutting or fishing
Somthing weird is that my switch off game is oxygen not included and requires constant focus but it is just is fun to switch off and watch my dupes pee in the water supply and laugh then start a new game
Brooo your channel just showed up after long day of work. Video was sick thug pro is so fun man. Got my first ps2 with thug. But the album man!!! So fire dude. Been hooked on this genre album will def be in My rotation. Dedeco has a vgm/jungle/etc mix and it's so good def check it out. Keep up the good work. Congrats on the album!!
i relate alot to this video especially the fomo in gaming ever since ive found webfishing ive been trying to move away from AAA gaming or live service stuff for more indie experiences and it has been great im happy to see so many people move towards indie now that the AAA stuff is really starting to go down in quality
finally someone understands , at somepoint in my life i only played competetive games and then i stopped and the went picked up some games that i might like , like webfishing and super animal royal and a rhythm game called osu! , never been better
Shoutout to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk! You would enjoy it as it's similar to THUGPRO and the soundtrack and aesthetic are very good! Shoutout to Little Inferno too - it's a very comfy and chill puzzle game that's taken a surprising 23 hours of my time (you can probably beat it in a few hours if you weren't trying to 100% it).
one odd method am into is old competitive games where all the dedicated player-base are chill as hec just vibing out to some music while pulling off montage shots Tribes Vengeance is the feel good look it sometime
Talking about getting into a flow state with Thug pro (fuckin' A+ rec btw) made me realize how much I loved playing DOOM 95 ~pre - and hight of covid. Been struggling trying to settle on a game, especially the past few days so this video was well needed. Gonna try to tap into my flow state again and kill some imps n' demons. 🙏 Subscribed, and I look forward to what you have coming in the new year
I would love to say that you can switch off in Sky:: Children of the Light as well... But god-damn it, I'm going nuts with how much of farming you should do in this game...
thank you so much for this video!!!! love having a name for a genre i deeply love, esp as i struggle with my adhd. is it alright if i follow your format for a video of my own "switch off" games?
I think any Koei game falls into this category. I used to play Dynasty Warriors every day after school, it's perfect to just kick some ass without needing to think too much.
I need switch off games I make content and i feel like i have to make a video or stream the newest game but I need those games that i enjoy one of the switch off games for me recently has been Final Fantasy XIV Online its very fun to just do quests or fish and just turn my brain off as i press numbers

Oh yes
