      You inspire me to have only bought those few items in the whole year, that’s great! I think I’ll count my purchases for 2021. Thanks Lia👱‍♀️

    In September I started to track my finances, color-code them by good, bad, unusual and alright-but-avoid-generally and attempted a shopstop.
    I bought 17 new items of clothing since then, mostly second hand or ethical/sustainable brands, but still a fail.
    Now I have the wardrobe I want though, have not bought a single item of clothing all December and am continuing to battle my shopping addiction.
    Your videos really help me to get inspired whenever I feel drained by the stuff I still own that I already decluttered but can't get rid of responsibly right now and they help me have an image for my vision for my life.
    Also I have contemplated naturally dyeing my own clothes now and instead of selling it I will make the arms of my favorite too-hot-washed cardigan longer the same way you added a neckline to your pullover. You are one of the about 6 creators that heavily inspired all the goals I created and reached this year and I am thankful.

    I almost brought a backpack myself this year for camping/hiking reasons but then I did some research on a bag I already own. Turns out it was designed in a way that the laptop compartment is waterproof and also meant to be used for a water camel! I was like well that worked out! I’ve been using it on my longer hikes ever since and have been happy with it.

      That sounds great! It is always so nice to rediscover things and find a way to be happy with what we already have. That happened to me this year with a sweater my boyfriend had decluttered a year ago (we just didn't have the time to bring it anywhere or sell it) and now I took it in to my wardrobe and love it ☺

    Lia, Think about writing a book. You definitely have enough thoughts on the subject. You would just need to re-watch your videos. And if you do, I want an autographed copy for my suggestion. LOL

    Your decluttered shorts story was
    funny Lia, but I fully understand
    you why they are still in your life.
    Sincerely hope whenever you are
    able to go by train to Mongolia.
    It is highly interesting - went some
    years back. A completely different
    life Mongoliens lead to us. Much
    love from Zurich.

      yes, I really hope I can visit Mongolia one day! I fell in love with the country by researching and also by looking at the pictures my boyfriend brought home since he was able to go because he left one month earlier than me and my son had planned to go :)

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Secondhand shopping has been such an amazing thing because I save money, it's way more eco-friendly and there are soo many things to choose from (at least if you have good secondhand shops or a good online marketplace ☺)

    I would like to see what you give people as gifts. I avoid giving gifts as much as possible because it creates an obligation for people to buy me things that I end up having to declutter. Buying for kids is the worst because I end up just buying plastic junk. They love it but I hate buying it. There are only so many times i can give them books. Would be interested to hear your thoughts and advice.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I completely understand how you feel about this! I struggle with giving gifts to adults as well, mostly I try to give eatables or something I know they want... Or time together or some sort of gift card... For kids, I love books as gifts, also time together but small kids don't really get that concept... And also wooden toys or sustainable clothes. I also really try to avoid buying plastic toys for kids because they often break fast, make annoying noises and are not really good for developing creative and independent playing skills☺ but I don't have a real solution either...

    Buying used electronics seems more to be "penny wise and pound foolish". Yes, upgrading your iphone as soon as the new one comes out is silly, but buying used often means you only get the 1/2 life left in it. I do buy new*, however, the stuff is run into the ground and beyond before I buy another new item. *It's nuanced, I make a once in a blue moon exception of well built, vintage items picked up for almost nothing at thrift stores, like my almost brand new used early 60's blender, which will last past doomsday.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally understand! I have a new phone and laptop but I have never regretted buying a secondhand camera. But I think it really depends on the item, where you buy it from, if you get a warranty (I have a one year or something warranty on my camera) and which risk you are willing to take ☺

    • @charlottebellenge419
      @charlottebellenge419 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My e-reader was second hand, also an item i think is perfectly ok to buy second hand and i got a lot of books from the previous owner for free 😊

    • @taramok6056
      @taramok6056 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a second hand phone and I love it and it works well. However it was a phone that came out pretty recently so it should have quite few more years in it

    • @Blue-pb7kz
      @Blue-pb7kz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had my second hand smartphone for 3 years now and going strong! And I paid about 1/3? of the price of a new equivalent phone - so unless a new smart phone was going to last 9+ years I'm pretty happy :) I only needed to add an extra memory card to make it perfect. The thing is just that, as long as everyone else is constantly ugrading their phones, there just going to be a big supply of near-new electronics - and as long as there's any life left in them at all, isn't it best for the planet to use as much up of it as possible?

    I feel compelled to rant about subdivisions of minimalist. A sustainable minimalist is literally twice as much then what is needed. I was wondering why we don't use acronyms but s&m means a whole different thing.

    Do you use any sort of bullet journal or have you thought about using one? I would be really intrigued to hear your thoughts!?✨

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have used something like a bullet journal before, just not as planned out and even more day to day than the average bullet journal. I liked it way better than a traditional planner but have stopped using it this year because there was just not enough to plan... Usually, I like to just have things in my head but I go back to to-do lists and my notebook whenever I have a lot on my plate I tend to forget ☺

    Have you considered cloud storage? If yes, but still decided on hard drives, why?

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I just want to have two copies of everything. So I have the same file on two hard drives and stored in the cloud. Because I want to be safe for every scenario and if I lost one of the hard drives it could take much too long to download a file depending on what it is I need... Maybe it's a bit extra but it is the safest and best solution for now ☺

    • @status101-danielho6
      @status101-danielho6 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The upside of cloud storage is also their downside: they synchronize files and folders. So a file that’s accidentally deleted in a local drive also gets deleted in the cloud.

    I understand the desire to buy second hand, but buying used earphones is not recommendable cause you may get ear infection from the person who used it.

    Your video is very good, the only thing I am a person who loves to hike and travel, and of course I cannot use only one backpack, I have 2, one of 20 liters for 1 day and another of 40 liters for several days or weeks, both Ospreys. I don't like your backpack because it is not comfortable on the back or shoulders and it does not have a strap on the hips to distribute the weight. For the rest, I love your things, but watch out for the health of your back.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am glad you like the videos! My backpack actually has a hip strap and a very comfortable bag, but since it is modular I can take everything off or put it on ☺️ I love hiking and traveling too so it was important for me to have a padded and adjustable system for my shoulders, back and distribution of the weight ☺
