    I also have twin boys who will be 19 next June. That's a cute dress pattern. My mom would have loved he see-through machine. She was quite the seamstress. She made all my clothes growing up and taught me to sew. Such an invaluable skill to have.

    Always enjoy an Aussie sewing room tour. So many on YT are American or English with things that are difficult to source in Oz. My Mum was a dressmaker - she trained as a young woman in a couturier's studio in Sydney in the late '40s. She loved the Dior 'New Look" and I grew up with an appreciation of style and some sewing ability. Just ordered myself a Bernina to start sewing again and as I am in my mid '60's this will see me out 😃 . A few projects to do but my hands limit me a little these days so keeping things simple. Enjoying your channel....thanks.

      I would have loved to work with a couturier when I was younger, and theater costumes would have been great too. I'm mostly self taught, but do love to learn new things every day 😀

    I always enjoy sewing room tours. You were an adorable little girl with lots of beautiful hair even then. I make quilts and it seems to have taken over my home. I've got sewing machines and fabric storage in one room. The new longarm has taken over most of the living room so the cutting/layout tables were moved to another room. My great grandkids toys and art spaces are mixed in with all of that so they can share each room with me as I work. All boys, but they are learning to sew. Thank you Christine for sharing your space, Cynthia.

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to have a quilting machine in my shop Cynthia. They take up so much space! I've done hundreds of quilts, and used to teach it when I was a fabric store. I now have way too many packed away. I taught my boys to sew when the were little, and they enjoyed latch hook rug kits, but soon forgot all about that when they became teenagers 😅

    Thank you for such a lovely tour of your sewing room, you have a wonderful space and it is sooooo much tidier than mine. My aim is to be more organised but regret it may not happen. The Pinock sewing machine brought back memories as my mum had one before we came to Australia. Dad bought her the first Brother sewing and embroidery combination which was freighted from Scotland, as she had been a cutter for a renowned clothing business and enjoyed making our clothes. It used cams and was extremely heavy in a wooden frame. (I am about to check the spelling of the P machine!!!!!)

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jess, this Pinnock (is that how it's spelled?) is also in a heavy wooden box with all the cams as well. It sews really well too 😀

    At 5:25 'when you used to sell haberdashery...' That caught my attention. It's not a word one hears very often, and it just so happens to be the name of my thrift store - The Haberdashery. Love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing your beautiful little home sewing studio. All my machines & supplies are stowed away & whichever machine I need to use (Stellaire embroidery, Bernina B590 or my Husqvarna S25) gets set up on my Husky Adjustable Workbench with drawers in my bedroom. It also doubles as my computer & work from home desk. My kitchen island doubles as my cutting table & ironing station. So I like seeing what others do with their small spaces to see where I can improve on my tiny space setup.

      Haha, I just have the two sons Janet, but used to have 35 treadle sewing machines. One day Chris and I cleaned out a deceased estate where the lady had almost 100 boxes of fabric. She'd labelled and alphabetised every box! I've kept a lot of her fabric, but after seeing her house, I sold my machines so my boys wouldn't just throw them all away😂

    Thank you. It looks very functional. I like it a lot! I absolutely love your drawer storage!
    I too love to be organized, but it’s impossible with my situation. My space is the dining table, I cut on it using a cutting mat with additional protection underneath to protect the table that I use for smaller projects, I sew on it, and iron on it. I use a rolling drawer system to store everything, my fabric is upstairs. But, I have to clear everything before people come over. I’m grateful to be able to do everything in one space, but I do wish for better. I have a spare room upstairs but it’s too small to do what I really want/ need a sewing room to be, it has a closet where I store my fabric. The room is way too hot in the summer too.
    I make my own clothes, so there’s not enough room on the table, I cut my fabric on the floor.
    I’ve been doing it this way for 5 years now.
    My grandmother had the bigger one of the old sewing storage, I remember it as a child, I loved the music.

      I used to have to sew in the lounge and constantly annoyed the family with my mess and noise. I complain about my tiny room all the time, but to be honest, I'd proably complain if I had something bigger as it would take longer to tidy up all the time.😃

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My room is too small to put an AC in Sue. Fortunately Chris got me a portable one that I wheel into the doorway over Summer. Thankfully in winter, the little heater under the bench works a treat 😀

    I enjoy seeing how other sewists organise their space. I was extremely lucky to gain a 5x3m cottage when we bought our current house 2 years ago. It had originally been a home based business but was reduced to a sad, dusty storeroom. It was a great delight for me to clean up the cottage, paint it a pretty blue/grey and set it all up just for me! Oh and an extra bonus - it has 11 double power points!

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs

      WOW! All those power points! When we renovated our house, I should have extended the size of my room before building our studio. The only way to extend now would be to remove the fernery, and I just can't do that 😁
