It is most reassuring to see younger people showing an interest and a talent in both songs and instruments that are not mainstream. It ensures cultural continuity for yet another generation. I love these old shanties! Nicely played, Gustavo. Keep putting up videos - get the word out there!
i often come back to this video, there is just something nostalgic and fantastic about it, guess it's the accordion mixed with recording with old material ( don't know how to rly describe it), great compilation my friend
It's funny how many "classic" Irish songs and sea shanties Flogging Molly incorporates into their music, and most fans (like me) don't even know! This is great!
Having learned to play this medley, I realise now why it's so smooth and all the songs fit so well...each song starts with the last note of the previous song!
really got into the accordeon again lately and my algorithm adopted quicker than I could turn off the used market... at some point I'll get one, it's definetly one of my alltime dreams
@@GustavoToscandasilva I'm asking around friends and family atm maybe someone has an old one lying around; if not, I'll have to look on the used market or smth cause shit can get really expensive really quick ^^
In the mood for sea shanties. Listened to several and they were lacking that one ingredient. The accordion! Did a search that brought me to this jewel. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I'm composing the music to a stage production of 'Around the World in 80 Days' at the moment. I decided to use this old song as a basis for a piece in the score! So much expression on that instrument!! Thank you for sharing!!
It should be borne in mind that the age of sail didn’t completely disappear from the waves until after World War Two where packet ships were still making revenue trips. And there’s been some discussion about bringing back the sail as a propulsion means due to modern technology
Commercially perhaps, but for personal use sailing never fell out of fashion, it's actually more common than boats with turbines and fuel propulsion I went to a sail boat high school in the Netherlands, where we would make trips to Dutch territories in the Caribbean and central America, and learn survival skills and navigation skills. There are other types of schools like this in Europe
Freddy R. Well, those songs are on E minor scale. So you need basically to use Em, G, D and sometimes Bm to create that idea of "tension". Hope that helps o/
Ahoi Gustavo and all the other pirates. greetings from a bearded german sailorman living in Hungary. you play so nice, man!!! thanx a lot for posting. I´m a greenhorn on the accordion but trying to play this song. Can you (or somebody else) please tell me what the bass line is (the right hand)? I would be very very happy guys
All those years of Playing Assassins Creed Blackflag finally came into good use. I knew the lyrics of this song just by hearing some guy in his 1 by 1 cubical bedroom play it on TH-cam. Amen
Hallo Gustavo. Busy with a project I needed some shantymusic played on the accordeon. So I took yours. I should have asked first but it's a temporary thing for now. I hope you don't mind. If there is any objection I'll take from the screen, if not and I''m wil keep using it, your name will be on the screen. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/ZMl0WGO10ho/w-d-xo.html
