The mixed kid comments are a bit closed minded but as someone half Korean I get it, growing up being mixed in Korea is really hard but honestly I don’t get the mindset of being “against” it
Ham Ham Edit V3 (I just realized that I read the OP wrong. So I switched what argument was for and against. I thought the OP was asking why people are against the belief that mixed children are bad): The "for" mixed children argument is coming from the belief that mixed children are treated differently than children that are not mixed. It can lead to being bullied, or a lack of inclusion. That's the main "for" argument. Being open minded would probably solve the whole bullying because they're mixed issue. That's the idea. It's because it's hard for mixed people that creates the basis for the "for" argument. Diversity and inclusion is a big running theme in many western societies, so the thought of children being given a hard time because of their race upsets people. Having an open mind is widely encouraged. The "against" mixed children argument is that children who are mixed will face more hardships than those who are not, and therefore, to avoid putting them in that position, rather than fight society over it, it is better to have a child who is not mixed. It's easier to flow with society than to push against it. This breeds the close minded belief system. I can't say whether it's right or wrong. It certainly puts the child in a difficult position, so I get why people would be opposed to mixed children. I also understand the belief that if people weren't so close minded, this problem wouldn't exist at all. I think bullying and negative pressure isn't for any person, but whether or not the reasoning behind being against having mixed children in a society like Korea is wrong, I can't decide that because both reasonings are true and carry logic with them. It's basically two different answers to the same problem.
It kind of bothered me too, but I'm some what use to that from some Koreans. They tend to be far more traditional and conservative compared to Americans. However the bulk of Korean people I know/knew are people I went to church with as a child, while in the US, and they're a very welcoming and loving community, even though by nature, such churches can be rather exclusive, but that's understandable. I recognize much of that is to do with the fact that my mother took me to solely to Korean Baptists churches and she had clout with the people she worked with, but I can also differentiate the behavior of people who thought less of me for my mixed race and those who didn't care. Most people I knew gave no shits about it or at the very least, presented themselves not to. I think your own character can go a long way into getting others to appreciate you, ofc. Other non-Korean peoples were, at times, racist towards me, esp in my youth, but that hasn't been an issue in some time in my personal life now and to be honest, they weren't very clever or accurate anyways. When it comes to bullying, rest assured, that can be caused by just about anything. Kids can just be mean for no apparent reason, really. I think only in more extreme situations, i.e. you have racist parents that would disown you or you live in a culture that won't protect you or your child from real abuse, would you then consider avoiding the situation. Otherwise, if you're in love an want to have a child with someone of a different ethnicity, I think it's a flimsy excuse to avoid having a mixed child because of some ignorance, fear and bullying. Of course, Korean culture is not quite like Western culture either, but still, if you're in love, you're in love. I just hope people can continue to lead by example and show how archaic and short-sighted that sort of xenophobic thinking is by having a loving family of their own. Nothing changes without challenges. As a plus, I've be told that I'm exotic by a lot of people. So I've got that working for me. :P
same case if it was in Samoa or in some areas in Auckland...growing up mixed there felt like a nightmare..but I am over it and I am kinda glad I grew up with being it rough because then I can help others see whats wrong with their thinking and challenge the racist ones on their narrow mindness by speaking in Samoan and have their eyeballs almost fall out because I am apparently a ""white"" speaking Samoan bahahahahaha..
My husband is Korean. (Lived most of his life in the states.) I don't think I could call him Oppa. 😂 I love him for him. I find Korean men more attractive because of who I married. And our mixed babies are pretty gorgeous. 😉 I hope girls that prefer Korean men know that a Korean man is firstly a man. And not to expect him to be a kdrama love boat. i'm mixed, my mum is nigerian and my dad is italian, and i REALLY had a hard time growing up in italy. if you're never been bullied for having mixed roots then you cant understand. he's not being rude, he's totally right. id never EVER marry a black guy for the same reason, at least not in europe/america/asia. in this way my kids wont have to go through everything i did.

If you look up the meaning of ideal, the meaning will be similar to one's conception to what is perfect and yeah no one is probably perfect, it's an ideal type, you're looking at that one set of attributes and discarding the rest. And since it's an ideal type, they're not saying they'll only date these kind of people.

If you look up something like "Korea hardships of being a mixed child", there's a lot of news about it, theres even a couple that left Korea cause they don't want their mixed child to be in harms way. It's not that he is racist, it's that other people is racist and if you're saying he is racist cause he doesn't date a foreign then it might be the mixed child reason, closed mindedness or they're just not his foreign. Racist means that he is showing discrimination where as he is not. Don't use such a term that freely and carelessly without any valid reasoning or evidence.

I have met many, many people in Korea (I'm a Korean-American who was born and raised in NYC) and many mixed children do suffer some type of bullying or exclusion from the Korean society. There are Hello Counselor episodes where people come out and talk about the racist treatment they have received because they were either of another non East-Asian race, or mixed. I think that this is why the guy said that he would be thinking of the child in the case of dating a foreigner and possibly having children with them. The same goes for me. Even though I'm Korean, and I read, write, and speak Korean fluently, I don't think I would be able to have a good relationship with someone from Korea. Korea is too conservative at the moment, and I sometimes have fights with my parents or the rest of my family in Korea about what I believe is right. For example, all of them are against the LGBTQ+ community and their rights. Most of Korea is like this - Koreans are also very soft-spoken about sexual harrassment and patriarchy is still widely accepted. I don't think I would be able to have a relationship with someone who thinks similarly. Beyond this though, simple language barriers exist. I'm fluent enough in Korean at a high school level (I'm fourteen), and that's very, very advanced for someone living in the US. However, I'm not fluent enough to talk politics, or world problems, with someone entirely in Korean. As an academic seeker, I would be very, very frustrated with myself and my partner if I couldn't get my ideas across the way I wanted, and eventually, I believe the cultural differences would drive us apart. There's no simple solution to any of these racial problems in Korea, but I do get where this guy was coming from when he said he'd be worried for his mixed child. He was not being racist when he said that. Racism is the belief that a race is superior to another simply because of race. What he was talking about was the fact that the mixed child would have a hard time in Korea as a mixed child, not that Koreans were superior to another race.

Oh my god I just fell even deeper in love with the guy in the Hawaiian shirt. When he said he wouldn’t marry a foreigner because of what their child would undergo, it was like a breath of fresh air. Often people want mixed babies because of stereotypes without any regard for what the child will inevitably undergo. I’m half Korean half white myself and the racism from both sides is very detrimental and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.

As someone who is in an interracial relationship (I'm latina and bf is asian) I think it's really sad that people still think that way about mixed kids. I can't understand why people would give them a harder time just because of their looks, so I feel bad for mixed kids in Korea. Im Chinese and my husband is Filipino, our families view our kids as mixed. His family is much more accepting and kind to me and our children than mine is to him and our kids. The mixed relationship stigma is real, especially if your family are mainlanders.
Korea is still a homogeneous country. Their culture is heavily rooted in Confusianism so it's quite strict. You as a foreigner will have difficulty understanding the ways and therefore can cause a conflict in marriage and raising children.

In a society like the US where mixed kids are common, it's reasonable to not care about your spouse's nationality. In Korea however, almost everyone is fully korean, and being mixed would stick out like a sore thumb and make you the object of interest at the school.

The mixed kid comments are a bit closed minded but as someone half Korean I get it, growing up being mixed in Korea is really hard but honestly I don’t get the mindset of being “against” it

The "for" mixed children argument is coming from the belief that mixed children are treated differently than children that are not mixed. It can lead to being bullied, or a lack of inclusion. That's the main "for" argument. Being open minded would probably solve the whole bullying because they're mixed issue. That's the idea. It's because it's hard for mixed people that creates the basis for the "for" argument.
Diversity and inclusion is a big running theme in many western societies, so the thought of children being given a hard time because of their race upsets people. Having an open mind is widely encouraged.
The "against" mixed children argument is that children who are mixed will face more hardships than those who are not, and therefore, to avoid putting them in that position, rather than fight society over it, it is better to have a child who is not mixed. It's easier to flow with society than to push against it. This breeds the close minded belief system.
I can't say whether it's right or wrong. It certainly puts the child in a difficult position, so I get why people would be opposed to mixed children. I also understand the belief that if people weren't so close minded, this problem wouldn't exist at all. I think bullying and negative pressure isn't for any person, but whether or not the reasoning behind being against having mixed children in a society like Korea is wrong, I can't decide that because both reasonings are true and carry logic with them. It's basically two different answers to the same problem.

It kind of bothered me too, but I'm some what use to that from some Koreans. They tend to be far more traditional and conservative compared to Americans. However the bulk of Korean people I know/knew are people I went to church with as a child, while in the US, and they're a very welcoming and loving community, even though by nature, such churches can be rather exclusive, but that's understandable.
I recognize much of that is to do with the fact that my mother took me to solely to Korean Baptists churches and she had clout with the people she worked with, but I can also differentiate the behavior of people who thought less of me for my mixed race and those who didn't care. Most people I knew gave no shits about it or at the very least, presented themselves not to. I think your own character can go a long way into getting others to appreciate you, ofc.
Other non-Korean peoples were, at times, racist towards me, esp in my youth, but that hasn't been an issue in some time in my personal life now and to be honest, they weren't very clever or accurate anyways.
When it comes to bullying, rest assured, that can be caused by just about anything. Kids can just be mean for no apparent reason, really. I think only in more extreme situations, i.e. you have racist parents that would disown you or you live in a culture that won't protect you or your child from real abuse, would you then consider avoiding the situation. Otherwise, if you're in love an want to have a child with someone of a different ethnicity, I think it's a flimsy excuse to avoid having a mixed child because of some ignorance, fear and bullying. Of course, Korean culture is not quite like Western culture either, but still, if you're in love, you're in love. I just hope people can continue to lead by example and show how archaic and short-sighted that sort of xenophobic thinking is by having a loving family of their own. Nothing changes without challenges.
As a plus, I've be told that I'm exotic by a lot of people. So I've got that working for me. :P

i'm mixed, my mum is nigerian and my dad is italian, and i REALLY had a hard time growing up in italy. if you're never been bullied for having mixed roots then you cant understand. he's not being rude, he's totally right. id never EVER marry a black guy for the same reason, at least not in europe/america/asia. in this way my kids wont have to go through everything i did.

If you look up something like "Korea hardships of being a mixed child", there's a lot of news about it, theres even a couple that left Korea cause they don't want their mixed child to be in harms way. It's not that he is racist, it's that other people is racist and if you're saying he is racist cause he doesn't date a foreign then it might be the mixed child reason, closed mindedness or they're just not his foreign. Racist means that he is showing discrimination where as he is not. Don't use such a term that freely and carelessly without any valid reasoning or evidence.

I have met many, many people in Korea (I'm a Korean-American who was born and raised in NYC) and many mixed children do suffer some type of bullying or exclusion from the Korean society. There are Hello Counselor episodes where people come out and talk about the racist treatment they have received because they were either of another non East-Asian race, or mixed. I think that this is why the guy said that he would be thinking of the child in the case of dating a foreigner and possibly having children with them.
The same goes for me. Even though I'm Korean, and I read, write, and speak Korean fluently, I don't think I would be able to have a good relationship with someone from Korea. Korea is too conservative at the moment, and I sometimes have fights with my parents or the rest of my family in Korea about what I believe is right. For example, all of them are against the LGBTQ+ community and their rights. Most of Korea is like this - Koreans are also very soft-spoken about sexual harrassment and patriarchy is still widely accepted. I don't think I would be able to have a relationship with someone who thinks similarly.
Beyond this though, simple language barriers exist. I'm fluent enough in Korean at a high school level (I'm fourteen), and that's very, very advanced for someone living in the US. However, I'm not fluent enough to talk politics, or world problems, with someone entirely in Korean. As an academic seeker, I would be very, very frustrated with myself and my partner if I couldn't get my ideas across the way I wanted, and eventually, I believe the cultural differences would drive us apart.
There's no simple solution to any of these racial problems in Korea, but I do get where this guy was coming from when he said he'd be worried for his mixed child. He was not being racist when he said that. Racism is the belief that a race is superior to another simply because of race. What he was talking about was the fact that the mixed child would have a hard time in Korea as a mixed child, not that Koreans were superior to another race.
The fact I wanna learn a whole language, fly to Korea, get the perfect Korean body type (minus the skin color), wait until I'm legal, and have a decent income just to get rejected by a hot guy I fell in love within this video

And lila b is talking about liking Korean men just because they're Korean, so obviously that's a completely different issue. You can't tell Korean apart from other Asian people, so that fact alone would make such preferences odd and potentially fetishizing/racist.
Oh my god I just fell even deeper in love with the guy in the Hawaiian shirt. When he said he wouldn’t marry a foreigner because of what their child would undergo, it was like a breath of fresh air. Often people want mixed babies because of stereotypes without any regard for what the child will inevitably undergo. I’m half Korean half white myself and the racism from both sides is very detrimental and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.
Not the case in certain countries like Brasil. Although my home country is Argentina I have been to Brasil and there’s Japanese-Brasilians. Where are you from?

if that men have their standards about looks & sexual attractiveness, personality, fidelity etc... means they want a mum, then they should.
Otherwise (so they have no issues with woman's bad personality, infidelity, nagging and whining, no good communication, no physical attractiveness), their marriage life will be more like slave in plantation, being exploited by their wives with having no rewards, rather than a mutually beneficial and healthy relationship.
As someone who is in an interracial relationship (I'm latina and bf is asian) I think it's really sad that people still think that way about mixed kids. I can't understand why people would give them a harder time just because of their looks, so I feel bad for mixed kids in Korea.
I'm just glad that where I live everyone looks different so it won't be something I will have to worry about too much
Im Chinese and my husband is Filipino, our families view our kids as mixed. His family is much more accepting and kind to me and our children than mine is to him and our kids.
The mixed relationship stigma is real, especially if your family are mainlanders.
Korea is still a homogeneous country. Their culture is heavily rooted in Confusianism so it's quite strict. You as a foreigner will have difficulty understanding the ways and therefore can cause a conflict in marriage and raising children.

In a society like the US where mixed kids are common, it's reasonable to not care about your spouse's nationality. In Korea however, almost everyone is fully korean, and being mixed would stick out like a sore thumb and make you the object of interest at the school.
