When Mitch and Kirstie are asked which of them has the higher voice they look at each other, shrug, and say, "Maybe Kevin?"

Funny. There's a great interview on TH-cam with the group and they ask them, "Who's the best singer?" ...and the other four simultaneously point at Mitch.

We like to say that Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue.
John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences.
First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together.
Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were almost 43 years ago.
John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he DID give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

What I think every time is that if any one of them were less tolerant, less loving, less accepting, the whole world would be denied the beauty of what they do together. They are as good as they are of their diversity.

They are better than we deserve. They seem to have the ability to release songs that the world really needs to hear. Some songs that I think fall in that category are That’s Christmas to Me, Sing, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Mad World, Thank You, The Prayer, and Prayers for This World. We need to keep making Pentaholics so people can hear the beautiful messages that they regularly put out.

Great reaction. This one makes me tear up each time I hear it. It's such a respectful cover. Did you notice that not only were they showing what they identify as on their signs, they were also showing what they have in common with the signs they passed to each other, i.e. Mitch and Scott are both gay, Scott and Avi are both men, Avi and Kevin are both American and Kevin and Kirstie are both Christian. I'm subscribing for more PTX reactions. I think you are definitely going to join the ranks of us Pentaholics! I'm 54 and have been going to see live music for nearly 40 years but when I saw Pentatonix for the first time in London in May this year it was the best concert I have ever been to.
They are truly special. Although they are known for their covers and Christmas music, their originals are incredible and much under-rated. I would recommend you react to some of those. Love again is an EDM one and it's my favourite of their originals but Sing is also great (and the video included some of their fans from around the world as well as some of their celebrity fans) and so are Love me when I don't, Happy now, Coffee in bed, Can't sleep love, Water, Cracked and their new one I Rise. Enjoy the rabbit hole!

There is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift! *IMO, no other group, can build up a song, like Pentatonix* They are masters at pulling on our emotions!!! 💗💗💗💗💗💗 *They are individually so talented, however, when put together, it is truly magical* 💗💗

Oh, imagine the consternation, taking on a John Lennon - John freaking Lennon! - classic that embodies the central message of his life and art, the peaceful coexistence we can all achieve if only we rely on our better instincts and ignore the divisive institutions that have so often led to war. And you want to update his message for a modern audience? You want to upgrade John freaking Lennon? Better know what you’re doing, boys and girl! And they did, and they did. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, makes me want to expound and declaim … Ugh, I’ll stop now. Try Making Christmas or Come Along for something different. Or Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Peace …

I totally agree! You can't miss with any of Avi's solo music (about 90% of which are his originals), but if you want a song with emotion and an intimate approach, react to the 7 Layers Sessions version of "All Is Well", recorded in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during his 2022 European tour. Just Avi, his acoustic guitar, and the natural resonance and reverb of the church building.

As someone with a great appreciation for the human voice, you really need to listen tothe PTX original 'Run To You'. Its beautiful. Also, please consider reacting to Avi's solo work. Although most people start with the amazing 'Change on the Rise', for you I recommend the 7Layers Session version of 'All is Well' which showcases what happens when a beautiful voice meets the sublime acoustics of a church.
