I chat with my friend and musical genius Bear McCreary about his early career, working with legends like Elmer Bernstein, and his journey from Richard Gibbs' assistant to scoring the iconic Battlestar Galactica series. Bear shares his unique experiences, the challenges of being a young composer, and how he eventually became a respected name in the industry. We also reflect on aging in Hollywood and the invaluable lessons we've learned along the way.

The score adds so much to the tapestry of BSG. It's not just background noise. It's like it's own character, developing as the story develops.
The Bear contributed to BSG so much. I still love to listen to the soundtrack. Amazing interview, you two got so much energy and it shows that you love what you are doing. BSG gave the world two amazing talents
He made BSG so much more epic than it woulda been with sum1 else. IMO his scores were something special and ive loved the bsg sountracks so much thru the yrs abd still often listen
Bear is a top 3 soundtrack GOAT
Bear is 10 days younger than I am (John Williams' birthday is the day after mine). I studied music theory and composition with the crazy idea of becoming a composer, but very quickly discovered I have ZERO talent for creation.
Thus, I live vicariously through Bear's success. I fell in love with Bear's music VERY early into the BSG series and have bought every soundtrack album as they released. I've followed everything he's done since. I own the Outlander soundtracks and I've never watched the show.
If you ask me who the greatest film composer is, I'll probably say John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith. If you ask me who my FAVORITE is... it's Bear McCreary 100%.
I love Bear and his music! As an artist and a photographer I've noticed the age thing too. My observation in my fields is that when I was younger, it was the older artists that had paid their dues that got the exhibitions, got the clients, etc and now, now that I'm older and have paid my dues, it's the younger ones that slam onto the scene. Sigh. I just keep myself moving ...
🐻 is just awesome at what he does and he has a super cool name 👍
Love the cover of All along the watchtower.
You're a talented composer. A lot of it works well with workouts.
Bear is now #Mozalf (Gandart doesn’t quite trip off the tongue as well!)
Mozart meets Gandalf! LMAO that's perfect!!!
That’s funny! Princess Bride came to mind before he even mentioned it… 😅
I am almost 60, and I am still an idiot. 🤷♂️
