My mom told me about the bombing over Kinver when she was a young girl and also used to point out the bigger cave in Mill Lane as the one she used to take shelter in.
Hi John, Pte H.Moreton is in the second group shot. On the left in the front row. (But you probably already knew that!) I heard about the bombs being dropped, I believe it was only once when a cluster of 7 bombs were jettisoned by a German crew who were keen to just get home. So we’re just getting rid of them. I don’t know if the decoy site on Gypsy Lane had anything to do with attracting the bomber, whether it was targeting somewhere in particular, or if it was just lost.
My late uncle was a member of the home guard in and around kinver + I believe there was also a decoy site or makeahift army base in a field to the left as you approach the Whittington via the stewpony. I believe Something did happen up the back of white hill but I can't remember exaxtly what it was as I was very young when told but I can remember being told of 2 planes coming down in the kinver area. How accurate these facts are or not I don't know.
Hi, thanks for watching and for your comment. You can see the Stewponey spigot mortar mount in my 2002 photos near the end of this video at around 11 minutes.
I really enjoyed that, thank you. Seems they rather over did the bomb shelters on Church Hill and all other defences for a small Staffordshire village.Where they perhaps related to the Drakelow tunnels? Just a thought. Looking forward to the next release.
Hi Andy. Kinver’s Home Guard’s main job was to hinder westward progress of an invading force. I don’t believe that they had a specific role regarding Drakelow. Although that trench at the end of Kingsford Lane does make me wonder.
Thanks John, I took some photos a few years ago for an article I did on Darkplaces.co.uk but didn’t find any documented info from WW2 relating to the Home Guard training camps in The Million. I believe that Enville Estates hold stuff in their archives, but they do charge to access it.
@@thewheezywanderer6995 Thanks for the reply . I'll get intouch with Enville estate and ask thank you . If you do get any info please contact me. Cheers jon
Great stuff, I recognised all of the locations and will now view them in a different light. Thank you 🙏
Very interesting. Born & bred in Kinver. Most of these sites we used to play at as children with no idea what they were.
Enjoying the vids u doing keep it up
Loving the videos by the way...
Excellent Paul, very educational!
Great video Paul. Did not know so many clues to the Home Guard's service in and around Kinver.

Really interesting film, thanks for taking the time to make it and sharing some fascinating local history. Cheers.
Really enjoyed that, subscribed and looking forward to the next one 👏
My dad lived in rose cottage on the corner of white hill and bath lane, the fields just down from the cottage were bombed a few time.

Yes, that's Jock in the photograph, I have one at home with kinver home guard on horseback taken at the rear of the white Harte in 1941.
