LITTLE SPAR LAKE - Cabinet Mountains, Montana

Our hike to Little Spar Lake in the Cabinet Mountains of Northwest Montana. This is the only trail accessible lake in the Western Cabinets and the proposed Scotchman Peaks Wilderness area. We hiked trail #143 near the Idaho and Montana state line from the Bull River Valley. The trail is about 9 miles round trip with an elevation gain a little over 2000'. It follows an impressive canyon and drainage along Spar Creek through thick forest and open meadows to the lake which sits below the basin of Scotchman Peak #2.
