Wtf is a upper class brit doing wareing a green white and orange balaclava 😂😂😂 . I think he has no idea what that stands for or he might not. As an irish man i find this hilarious 😂
Trying to be original, trying to be antiestablishment, but instead, you’re just more of the same because you’re looking for acceptance you’re looking for confirmation of what you’re doing is original stead of just doing it and saying nothing and let what you’re doing. Talk to people not you talking to people you don’t get it, none of you get it.
I'm English, pretty left wing and pretty "woke" but I knew very little at all about what the British did in Ireland. My partners dad is from Belfast and last year we went to Belfast, I went to a few museums and spoke to a few people. I then found tons of documentaries here on TH-cam about the troubles and I was honestly completely disgusted by the British (my nationality). In school I was never taught any of this, I was taught the British saved the world from the Nazis because we're righteous heros. What a load of bollocks. It comes as no surpise to me that we are now currently, not only fully backing a genocide and supply weapons for it, but that our RAF are providing survelliance and targetting information to Isreal to help them kill as many children as possible. Learning about what we did in Ireland really helped me to understand that the British didn't save anyone from the Nazis, they just didn't want the Nazis getting a piece of their pie. British politicians of the WWII era were racists and eugenacists, well versed in genocide and had in fact invented concentartion camps. The British and the Nazis were pretty similar in behaviour. The British thought them because they trod our toes, not because we didn't like their ideaology. After the war fascism and eugenics became very unpopular but up to that point the Britain was just as disgusting as the nazis.
You sound extremely impressionable. Of course there is good and bad in our history, the same as most other nations. To think otherwise would be ridiculous. It is rarely all bad though and certainly not remotely comparable to Nazi Germany. Take our time in India and what that gave the country. The railway system, Ideas of liberty, equality, and human rights, political union, democracy, free press, and rule of law. Did we do it for selfish reasons? Sure we did, and we gained. Look through history and find me progression without benefit to someone. I am not going to argue it was good, or deserving of any pats on the back, I am just saying that it was not all negative. Remember that India prior to us, was a country with the worst class system in human history that frequently forced women to burn alive with their dead husbands. History is the be learned from, it is not a stick to beat yourself with.
@ Sorry, WTF are you trying to tell me? The British made some cool inventions so actually all the genocides and oppression we’ve been involved in isn’t so bad…. Is that your point? You’re going to have to clarify. We committed many genocides but we also invented trains so it’s swings and roundabouts. Sounds like you’re the impressionable one. Crimes against humanity are not outweighed by technological advancements. And India was more civilised than Britain for most of its history. India has been home to major civilizations since around 2600 B.C.E. …the Indus Valley civilization, the Vedic Age, the Mauryan Empire, and the Gupta Empire. Most modern language originated in India. India was the cradle of art, culture, philosophy, science and technology. Our number system, “Arabic numbers” come from India (they’re not Arabic). Britain was living like pig in the dark ages through most of this. Oh but we gave them trains in the 19th century… can you hear how stupid that sounds. Please don’t embarrass yourself by calling me impressionable. I’m a grown adult, I had some blind spots in my history knowledge which I myself researched to fill in. You’re rattling off the same right wing talking points I’ve heard for decades about how Britain is great because of the Industrial Revolution… which I personally think is boll*cks anyway. Human rights were sh*t before the Industrial Revolution yes, but actually mass industrialisation has been the cause of misery a lot of people. It put most people living rurally out of jobs and and into poverty, forced them to move to cities, this is where crime soared and we then needed to invent police to violent protect the property of capitalists. Go to the wool museum in South Wales and you’ll see how the Industrial Revolution destroyed that community… but it was ok because the capitalists were making more money than ever… yay, technology. It’s then later lead to the total destruction of our ecosystem of course, a burning planet, and of course industrial farming means exponential population growth so now there’s no going back without millions of people dying. Fantastic!!
Jake I think you may be one of the smart ones. Capable of critical thinking and holding the ambition of a better world. Always remember there is as much good in the world as there is bad. Power has always corrupted people and always will. But there are people who know the facts and there are people who don't. To be British in 20204 you have to understand the level of reinvention that is required. Germany lost WW2 and with much help (west) they reinvented themselves as a prosperous passive nation. The British empire was massive a relatively short time ago but has now completely gone, bar a few outposts. So being British today is not about the glory of empire, nor is it about the guilt of empire. That was then and now is now. We are a proud strong democratic multicultural nation, we' are not the empire. 🍉🍉
The person who was being interviewed first sounded pretty damn posh to me ....

The empire doesn't look so "great" when you look at it from the perspective of any country that was forced to be a part of it
