Hello Jack. I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some days at the BBC News Centre at TVC and I was truly amazed at the hard work of people like Huw Edwards. I came into the news centre just before lunchtime and I remained their until 11.00pm and those 10 hours were fast, exciting and draining at the same time. The true gentleman of BBC News now is Huw. I have so much respect for him. He always treated me wonderfully when I was there. Guided me along, even though he was very busy, he always made sure I knew what was happening, so I could learn the working of the news centre for my media history studies.

@@jacksugden8190 Hello Jack, I meant a long time ago - back in 2001 I was at the news centre at Television Centre. Today that building is home to the commercial arm of the BBC - BBC Studios. I am not a fan of NBH - I have been there a few times in 2015, 2016 and just before the 2019 election. Not the same.
@@johnking5174 Hello again, just watched the video again, such a complex affair getting the Six news to TX, I’m a bit like you, not keen on NBH, as only liked N2 at TVC, I have only been in the reception twice at the building to make enquiries, saw the Dalek, do you have any photos of N2 seen in this video please?. @@jacksugden8190 Hello Jack - I was not permitted to take any photos which really annoyed me, but when I arrived at the reception, I had a security briefing and was told "NO CAMERAS ALLOWED" - you see my time at the news centre was in the autumn of 2001, after 9/11 and after the news centre was bombed. Thankfully when I arrived at Television Centre, it was all repaired. Apart from one sign, which still was half destroyed, near the Cafe Cart. I got a great chance of going around the centre in 2001, 2006 and a few other times, but 2001 and 2006 was the main years I was around. I was there for the big relaunch of BBC News in 2006, when they rebuilt Studio N6 and Studio TC7 with the famous BARCO screens - what did you make of that era Jack?
Thank you so much for uploading this to TH-cam the BBC Six O'Clock staff are always very professional and friendly when it comes to signing off and closing the bulletins and they are very polite when doing so as they tell viewers what time the next national bulletin will be on at and then sign off the bulletin with a polite good evening.
This is brilliant and a very descriptive video which explains the whole process of making the BBC Six O'Clock News and what goes on behind the scenes at BBC Television Centre. Also it is nice to see Dennis Murray the Ireland correspondent filming a report on Irish First Time voters alongside the Ireland producer Sallyanne Godson. You can see how all the stress and anxiety develops in the run-up to the programme at 6:00pm and at that point everyone is working flat out to put the stories out on air. In addition to this it is really clever how the Northern Ireland story is fed from Belfast back to BBC Television Centre via a technological web of telephone lines and radio links. This is a very interesting video to watch although it is very outdated because this was made by The Open University in 1996 so a very long time ago. I love the part at 02:4702:48 and it is nice to see Dennis Murray doing a report for the national network television news I believe that it wasn't just the BBC who reported on the Irish First Time Voters story but so did the BBC's competitors such as ITN, Sky News, CNN and all the other news agencies from across the world. It is nice to see Martyn Lewis and Jennie Bond in the BBC's newsroom along with the rest of the team who are responsible for bringing the national network television news to UK viewers.

Since this is 1996, BBC News was still using N2 at BBC Television Centre for all BBC One main news programmes. It would a further two years before they vacated N2 and move into the newly opened BBC News Centre in Stage 6 using N6 studio.

I recognise Playdays on the big transmission monitor in the newsroom at 05:2005:21 and I believe that this was played out from BBC Two's transmission, playout and presentation area.

Martyn Lewis and Jennie Bond used to be brilliant presenters I know that sometimes Jennie co-presented on a Thursday alongside the main presenter Anna Ford when Jill Dando was not available as she did the six alongside Anna Ford and Martyn Lewis on a Thursday and Friday. I absolutely love the 1993 to 1999 era of the BBC Six O'Clock News as they had brilliant presenters for example my all-time favourite one Moira Stuart. I love the parts at 21:0921:10, 15:2315:24 and 28:4528:46.

@@mrhammadmossop1988ul-haq Sadly no, it was a 15:00 edition summary for BBC2 with the late Jill Dando, by the time I went into the studio, Jill was gone, shortly after, she was murdered, such a shame loosing Jill and Peter Sissons.
Martyn Lewis was one of the best BBC lead presenters who was responsible for the BBC Six O'Clock News on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as well as being a stand-in presenter on a Wednesday or Thursday when Anna Ford was not available. However I believe that the lead presenters took it in turns to present the BBC Six O'Clock News so Martyn, Anna, John and Nicholas were regular lead presenters of the programme but in the summer months so July and August and again at Christmas plus at other times throughout the year the regular presenters would have had time off work so stand-in presenters would have covered the bulletins instead. I love the parts at 17:4817:49 and 16:1516:16 everyone looked very busy in the BBC newsroom especially in the run up to broadcast and you can see how much stress and pressure goes on behind the scenes to make sure that the programme is successful. I believe that Dennis Murray the Ireland correspondent and Sallyanne Godson were based in Belfast permanently and they remained there in case of a breaking or important Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland news story same with all the other correspondents and reporters from that time. It is nice to see the Ireland correspondent Dennis Murray reporting on Northern Ireland first time voters in the run up to the Northern Ireland general elections on the 24/05/96. You do not see these correspondents on television these days the only ones who remain with the BBC are Nick Higham the media and arts correspondent, Clive Myrie and Rory Cellan-Jones but everyone else have moved on or are working for other national or international news providers now. I love the parts at 15:2215:23 and it is nice to see Martyn Lewis and Jennie Bond as the Friday presenters of the BBC Six O'Clock News they looked very busy throughout the afternoon as did everyone else and there was lots to do before they went into the studio to present the programme. Also in those days everything was done over the phone and by computer they also used videotapes to play out the news stories that you watched at home.
