The X-47B was an incredible exercise in Research and Development. A huge learning experience. It's also quite possible they learned something so valuable during its program, they immediately classified it, only to continue work in the black. It's also possible they learned something so frightening, they shelved it until they could properly figure out how to use it ethically.

Military has been using drones of one type or another for decades, quiet retirement just means they got what they wanted from it and no longer need THAT one. Pilots will always be present but in functions where they want a human making the decisions.
