I actually shoot 300 Win Mag year round... But I have 2 rifles. One is a hunting setup... The other a long range rig. Temp sensitive powders aren't nearly as big an issue if you develop loads in conditions that approximate the conditions they'll be shot in. I appreciate Guy touching on that little tidbit in the video. There are so many choices for magnum rifle powder now, so I've never tried MagPro... But I may pick up a pound and see what it can do in my hunting rig. Never hurts to have more options and the data to go with them.
Your video is well timed Guy. I just ordered 2 pounds of Magpro to load some 105 gr. Barnes Match Burners in my 243 Winchester. The data looks promising and I can’t wait to try it out.
Love the video with all the RCBS reloading equipment and of course all the hunting videos that ultimate Reloader make for us hunter's to watch thanks very much once again very best wishes from Ben 👍👌
I have used this in my 243 Winchester with 95 grain Midway seconds bullets. Not sure of the manufacturer, possibly Hornady, maybe Remington. Accurate shows a max charge of 50.4 grains with Nosler BallisticTips. I loaded up to 51 and was getting marks on the case heads and backed down to 50 grains for 3050 fps. SD was poor at 36. Using a Lee factory crimp die to give a firm (but not too hard) crimp improved SD some to 18. Then took them out on a 77° day and had ejector marks on all the case heads. Backed down to 49 grains for a velocity of 2990 and SD of 19. All in Winchester brass with Remington 9.5 Magnum primers. Velocities from a 24 inch Weatherby Vanguard. This combo has proven capable of shooting sub 1 inch groups whenever I do my part.
I'm currently working on a long range load for my 7prc (And helping my best friend with her 6.5 prc) and have been researching Magpro, so this is well timed.
I am ready to try the MagPro in my 7mm rem mag for this winter hunting season. I will be working up loads for the Nosler E-Tip solid cooper bullet (140 grain) and the Nosler Accubond 160. My current powder I am using is the V-N165 and Hodgdon 7828sc. Will be nice to have another high performance 7mm mag powder since the IMR 8133 is no longer made. Great video!!
Magpro seems to give magical velocities in WSM cartridges. I still haven't picked any up, as I'm trying out Ramshot Grand in my 270 WSM at present. Grand is supposed to be temp stable, but I haven't tested it in hot weather yet. Magpro is next on my list if Grand doesn't pan out the way I want.
I've used magpro for my 300win shooting 190gr lrx branes getting 3200fps and 3/4 inches groups 3 shots at a 100yrds with a 26inches barrel browning x-bolt with a 1and8 twist
Is that a custom barrel? That's an awful fast twist.. I'd be running heavier pills..230gr or heavier for better long range. I run the 225 ELD-M in my 300WM Bergara 1-10 twist with RL26. Averaging 2968 at 0.3MOA.
I enjoy the accurate magpro in my 6.5 prc. I’ve found it to perform best in my experiences with the 147 ELD-M but it likes to flirt right at the line of pressure signs.
RL17 seems to be magic for WSM's I use that in my 325 WSM with 160 grain TTSX at 3300 ft per second but since it's hard to find and it could be fairly warm where I hunt I've been trying some more temp stable powders but velocities have been slower .
@carlpreston1680 Ramshot's new Grand powder is supposedly temp stable and gives good velocity in my 270 wsm with Barnes 129 lrx. I couldn't say with certainty that it is indeed temp stable as I just started with it, but it says it is on the bottle lol.
I have looked into that powder seems kind of slow from my application I've tried some slower burning powders and I can't get the velocity I don't know if it's due to my cartridge being more underbore than overbore seems to like more medium to faster burning powders I've been trying staball 6.5 with decent luck and I have some loaded with stable match right now just haven't tested them yet I'm using hggdon's load data for bullets of similar weight ultimately I would like to try reloader 16 but that's even more of a unicorn
@@carlpreston1680 Yeah I guess 160 is kind of light for an 8mm, so faster powders make sense. I'm quite unfamiliar with the 325. Good luck in your search.
I luv it in 25/06 with 117 or 120g get that 3000fps and some of my most accurate loads in 140g 270wsm and 180g 300wsm good if u use 168g Sierra match also
Interesting powder I’m looking at maybe trying that or like ram shot hunter hunter or the mag pro like you’re talking about just to get velocities up for coyotes and things like that with 110 grain bar triple shock bullet
Right there in the video. The 175 gr bullet showed excellent SD of 8 fps and a 22 fps ES. The 139 grain bullets weren't as tight. The 6.5 PRC also showed 8 fps SD.
@guyminer2384 I re-watched while not distracted by other things, thank you, great content and video. I've used some Magpro in my 6.5 PRC at home, and struggle to get low SDs. Any groups of more than 3 rounds and my SDs are in the mid to high teens. I've tried both berger 140s, hornady 147s and berger 153.5s, no luck. The accuracy is impressive at 200 yards though!
My experiments with MagPro have yielded great velocities. But ES and SD were terrible no matter what I did. Never tested temperature. If you’re shooting at 250 yards and under, I’d consider it.
Ya, I was pleased with the SD figures for the 175 grain 7mm load, and of course for Gavin's 6.5 PRC load, but the lighter bullets for the 7mm weren't as tight.
I have been using 83.5 grains of Magpro in my 300 Win mag and getting 3145 fps average muzzle velocity with sub-moa accuracy and no pressure signs with a 180 grain Barnes TTSX.
Great review on powder. I noticed the summit press on bench ! I’m on the fence as to purchasing one . I’m told they aren’t great for sizing brass . Is it true they don’t cam down hard ?
Is a 139gr bullet enough for something as large as an Elk? I'd not think to go that light with a moose. How would this powder work in the larger case calibers like 375 or 416? I have a Ruger African 416 I'm having trouble finding data for and am just working up loads from 416 Rem.
This is another magnum powder. I am curious what powder would you recommend for medium to heavy bullets in the .257 weatherby magnum? Some powders seem to be available while others are never available. Could you give a recommendation of Vituvori magnum rifle powders? I have enjoyed this series of videos and thanks for putting this together.
Hmmm. I don't know. Hodgdon shows different powders for heavy bullets and the 300 Norma Magnum. H4831, H4350, H1000... I wouldn't rule out Magpro, but I've never worked with the 300 Norma Magnum.

I tried this couple years back when I couldn't find re22 for my 7Msg.
Pretty good powder! I keep some on hand now.
RL-22 is what it replaced for me as well. Used that for years with my 7mm Mag rifles.

That's a big, serious 30 cal cartridge... :)
Thanks Guy, love that model 70. I personally have not used Magpro. Looks like you've found a good recipe.

Either will work, good luck on your hunt, cheers Yogi ✌️
Been using the MAGPRO for my 338LM for the past 4 years with 277 grs and 285 grs. ELD Match with great accuracy.
Outstanding!
Absolutely fantastic in the 25-06!!
Oh, that's music to my ears! I shall try it. Which bullet are you using?

We took a good look at Ramshot Grand just a few weeks ago. It's good stuff!
Looking to try it in my 7WSM next fall.
It should do really well in the 7 WSM.

Go with ramshot mag power you can get 3300fps with 150gr barnes ttsx with 7mm rem mag
3200 130gr ttsx 308. Makes me re think my love of the 270. Barnes load data pretty good. Hammer bullets seem to be slightly more accurate.
