That's actually very helpful! I accidentally learned that the firepower and melee number change on the other side. I was boarding an opposing player Trinc in a Requin, and I saw his melee go up to 22. I hit defend and it put his crew in shock. And an attack finished him off.
Isn't it worth firing deck guns into an attack? I did that earlier, lereq vs essex, outnumbered by about 100 crew and I got 50 kills at least twice firing deck guns into their attack

Also you can use [ and ] buttons to fire. In close range you will do a lot of damage and AI never shot back while boarding.
In Naval Action 2023, this does not work anymore .
