    Bachelors degree plus 5 years experience for a $17/hr job where I am. $1500/month for a 1 bedroom apartment that you wouldn't let your most bitter enemy sleep in. When you do find a job, you're basically an english teacher. This is canada now.

      I'm just starting a new job after throwing resumes around for a year. Got all kinds of technical education and certification. Basically doing two technical specialist jobs at the same time for $25/hour when one of these jobs alone should be like $50/hour. Welcome to Canadastan

    The immigration minister should be fired.(the past one too) Immigration policies, express entry, LMIA, international student scandals, it goes on and on, all created by the government.It's dysfunctional.       Temporary work isn't just for immigrants... It's used by a bunch of companies to exploit their workers. It was only like 6 years ago temp workers doing same job would get paid up to 50% less money than permanent workers doing the same thing beside them. Ive had to do this a bunch as a born and raised muti generation canadian

      Welcome to the construction industry in Canada. Wages have barely moved and now the sites are 85% foreign workers. Almost daily I orient new construction workers who have only been in the country for a few weeks, and can barely speak English, if at all.

    Nearly every fast food joint in this country is fully staffed by temp foreign workers because they are cheaper and is totally about wage suppression. Something has to give though can't afford rent and groceries on the wages they offer all the while the franchise owners and corporate master laugh all the way to the bank with their millions and billions in profits.

      I also bet that those foreign workers are of a specific nationality. That same nationality that snaps up franchises as much as they can and hires only those members of that same nationality.     Keep it in agriculture . It works very well in farming communities . It's hard work and I don't think Canadians want to do it . They live on the farms and bus into town to do their banking and shopping . At the end of the season they have a big bbq in town with gifts and sort of a going away festival . There aren't any housing, transportation or availability issues that may come up with trying to find enough local workers every season . It might not seem like a lot of money but where they come from , it's a lot of money . They shouldn't be used in big cities and fast food restaurants , I could only imagine the conditions .

      The problem is that many of the jobs foreign workers take are jobs that were traditionally filled by high-school students after school and weekends. High-school students no longer work. Parents place no expectations on their kids, and the kids are handed everything they want, so why would they want to work. Anyone applying for social assistance should have to fill these positions before they are given a cent.

    In Nanaimo, there is a renovation going on at the hospital that employs Mexican foreign workers under the table. They pay them $20-$25 an hour no tax and then take the remainder of the pay for themselves. I know this is true because I dated one of the workers. I thought he was on a work visa turns out he was on a tourist visa.

    I worked in BC and saw such horrible working conditions for foreigners that I walked out on a few jobs. Not like anything I've seen in Alberta. It was like a different world.

    A company in my town claimed that they needed the TFW’s or their business wouldn’t be able to find enough workers. Maybe if you paid well and treated your employees better instead of using your profits to buy up all the farms around you, you wouldn’t have this problem.

      No. They aren't immigrants who've come to live here. They're temporary hired help for companies that have difficulty attracting Canadian workers. The jobs are often only seasonal, too, so they're not steady full-time permanent jobs. They're also often low wage and involve physical labour (farms, slaughter houses, etc). The agriculture industry in Canada relies heavily on temporary foreign workers.

    Amazing how many foreign workers are flooding fast food, agricultural work, security guard, and hotel staff positions, (which are often underpaid jobs); and, no one appears to be advertising these jobs to Canadians, (notably to university students looking for a summer job). Businesses have no problem finding cheaper labour, by opening up work permits to international students and imported labourers. There will be backlash to this abuse, when Canadians cannot get work because all of the positions are already filled by foreign workers. "Contemporary slavery"? Shut the doors on them at the border, and they'd be crying to get into Canada.
