  • While the judgments against Donald Trump in the E. Jean Carroll case and the New York civil fraud case are front-of-mind for observers of Trump's recent legal disasters, in fact, he arrives at this situation already carrying significant business debt. Lisa Rubin, MSNBC legal correspondent, talks with Alex Wagner about the complicated process of New York Attorney General Letitia James making sure Trump pays his fraud penalty while Trump's other creditors also make claims against Trump's assets.

In that spread sheet of Donny's debt I saw that he paid off 2 loans of $50+ million in 2022 and also in 2022 took out $50+ million loans on the same properties. Borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. As someone else here noted, he may not have equity in any properties.

It’s rather well known that he initially loaned from American banks, but they understood he was a fraud, so he they didn’t allow him to renew his loans. So he had to go fore-gin banks to loan money. Admittedly from the Russians. Likely he has payed them back through other means.
The only thing that should upset people is that dealing with Trump like this should have happened a long tome ago, when lenders understood he was a bs:er. I suppose that he was regarded as a clown, and they let him be there for his circus acts to laugh at.

If some foreign aid loans Donnie that money. He should immediately be banned for running for president. As a government employee, if you’re required to have a security clearance. One of the things they check for is to see if you are in debt. And most people get denied for being a few thousand dollars in debt. So if you are 9 figures in debt you should definitely not be allowed anywhere near secrets and other intelligence documents and information. Such a person would be deemed compromised.

The irony is that if he had showed any type of humility, graciousness, or contrition for any of his actions, including for his loss in the 2020 election, he would be facing a lot fewer penalties. It really is the sole reason the Carroll judgment ballooned, because he quite clearly demonstrated that $5 million was not enough of a financial punch to teach him that what he did was wrong. And he obviously STILL did not learn because he kept the same attitude in Engoron's court the whole time...definitely a factor for the size of this judgment.

This will be over turned easily on appeal. The NY 63(12) statute ONLY applies to a person or business that conducts business in a fraudulent or illegal manner. Only a CONSUMER can be impacted.
In this case, Trump is the CONSUMER and the bank was the business. Only the bank can be charged under this scenario, not Trump.

He has the cult behind him here in the dUSA, and he is friends with dictators and authoritarians around the world. He can raise the money, that's not an issue. One of the more important issues is that he hasn't faced any REAL accountability so he continues to spread his toxic lies. Assuming the 9% interest is applied to both the judgement and the interest he already owes (about $98 million) his debt accrues at about 112K per day. The $87K figure that is widely quoted, only applies to interest on the judgment without including the interest on the interest he owes. It might be right but I haven't seen anything that implies the interest, which so far has been accruing as compounded interest, would all of a sudden stop accruing. ETA: New York lists the interest as 9% per annum. As I understand it, that means what I calculated above was the average daily interest during the year. The actual daily interest would increase throughout the year if he doesn't pay down what he owes because the amount owed that the interest would be applied to increases throughout the year

The "clock" started ticking at the time of the fraud. That's why there's already 100m in interest tacked onto the judgement. Whether he got the extension or not, he's already paying interest every day he's late. The only thing that changes is that he'd have 60 days to put up the money before the appeal window closes, and he'd have more time with just the one watcher on a more limited mandate.

Me and my friend, and roommate Tyler wake up at 7am and make 10 lunch bags Monday through Friday. We make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, with Acme bread, and an artisan cookie ( from our local cafe Jane on Larkin) and a banana and a carton of milk, for each lunch bag. Then we drive to a Elementary school in Oakland, California we live close by. We park across the street from the school and hand out the lunch bags to the kids on their way to school. If more people would help it would make a difference. A lot of kids in America go to school hungry and we want to help. It doesn't take much time, and the schools have not complained about us because we are in and out in 15 minutes. We hand out the lunch bags and leave immediately. we've been doing this for 6 months. If more people did the it would make a difference.

They way him filing for bankruptcy actually works, the Government can sieze any property that he owns and sell it at an auction untill every cent that he owes is paid, they get 1st priority, the "bankruptcy" deals with whatever is left.

    A judgment isn't money. It's literally a document.
The document is signed by a judge and it gives the judgment creditor certain legal rights. A judgment essentially gives the judgment creditor a bounty on the assets of the judgment debtor. That usually means the judgment creditor has to hunt down the judgment debtor's assets.
Once the assets are located, they can be seized through enforcement of judgment procedures. Those procedures are usually procedurally complex, detail oriented, and a pain in the butt to perform.
