God, I remember when this bit first started I ranged from ambivalent to annoyed at it and just couldn't get into it. Took a hiatus from listening to the show for a stretch after that (which I do with a lot of shows I've been fixated on for too long) and after a while came back. When I heard this godfarsaken bit again with fresh ears... Boy, I did a full 180. Suddenly I could see the vision and it became one of my absolute favorite running jokes. What a rollercoaster.

Long time subscriber here. I need you to know that this is an INCREDIBLY well-produced compilation. I return to this far more often than I care to admit. Please, PLEASE continue making these compilations for the Headgum Podcast, If I Were You, and/or Segments (Segmania?). Compiling a running joke over hundreds of episodes can't be easy to do, but damn is it fun to listen to.

No they've been awarding golden mics since episode 1. Jake already had 378 Golden Mics by the time they actually decided to talk about it on the podcast.
It wasn't talked about on the podcast before, but my guess is they probably did a version of the joke to each other off mic in their real lives.

This is a perfect example of why Jake and Amir sometimes doesnt work for me, i perfer when comedy duo's have each others backs, Jake consistently throws amir under the bus to pile on while amir defends himself as humourusly as possible. Hollywood Handbook is the best example everytime the premise becomes lets get amir, but the contrast is stronger because sean and hayes are always "us against the guest". and watching jake shit on amir constantly is tiring
the entire premise of the Jake & Amir sketches is Jake antagonizing Amir, Amir making himself the enemy or Jake bullying Amir because he's insecure. The very DNA of J&A is mean-spirited jokes at each other's expenses. But we laugh because we know they're best friends in real life.

I think most comedy duos actually usually have a straight man who gets tired of the goofy dude. From Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble to Abbot and Costello. Jake and Amir do the same, but they sometimes switch off. Like in the web series Amir is the crazy one and Jake is normal and confused. For most of the Golden mic segments, Jake is a delusional narcissist and Amir plays off it as being befuddled, insecure, normalish.
