      Technically, Liu Bei and Yuan Shu have an easier time playing tall, as their personal currencies yield bonus prestige. Kong Rong can still play a very unconventional game of buying territory rather than conquering, as we'll increasingly get into, but playing somewhat wide with him is still a good idea.

      @@JoshuaKevinPerry I feel with Imperator Rome PDX has overstreched even the patience of their fanboys. I't just an empty shell and you can SEE the holes for future DLC.
      Maybe they have gone too far this time.
      Oh yeah when's the espionage DLC for HOI4 coming? A MAJOR topic in world war 2, that should have been in the base game.
      Like the line breaking tool for battles (basic tactical maneuver) that they hid in a otherwise uselsee 15€ DLC.

    Something to note MaTN, spearman in this game don't have a bonus vs large that other total war games have had. They instead have a reflect charge mechanic which will pretty much just kill mounted units that charge into them so long as they are facing the charge and not moving. Sorry if the comment is late, just wanted to let you know that charging spearman into mounted units don't yield a much different result then using swords/axeman.

Your capital has multiple points of access to the sea (at Dong City, Taishan Trade Port, and Donglai City), but Yuan Shu doesn't actually have one. Luoyang City borders the river but the city itself doesn't actually connect to it, he'd need to take Luoyang Trade Port a bit further up the river for you to trade by sea. Or if you took out Liu Dai (not saying you should, but if you did) you'd have a direct land route.

    Hi Jon, Great video! two comments. I believe the reason that you were not able to trade with Cao Cao and Yuan Shu is because, although the game does not specifically say. The border that you have to share needs to be linked between both faction's capitals (just like Warhammer). In your case, since your new town Yingchuan is not technically connected to your other territories and you do not have a direct link from a port to your capital, the game does not think you have a border. Also; your suspicion about flame is always the best way to take out towers. Either flaming shot from archer or trebs will destroy towers in like one or two volleys. To be fair, it is all I do now in my campaign. This tactic also works great for army encampment forts. Since the walls and towers are all made of wood. One volley from flaming shot will spread to burn down almost all their the tower and wall defenses.

      (Received Pronunciation) IPA(key): /ˈmɑː.kwɪs/

    It's worth noting that there's a small issue right now where Yuan Shao goes a bit crazy with vassels, absorbing everybody around him and most people seem to experience him becoming extremely powerful.
    Also when you hover over a territory and it says "unknown", the faction in question may still control it. You just have no visibility.
    Oh and demand surrender just let's you take cities without a fight if you outnumber them enough, but can only been done if there's an enemy general in the city.
    Oh and I think faction heirs have to be inside your own faction, so marrying them off doesn't mean you'll inherit a faction. Plus the fact that people can just designate someone else as an heir.

    Jon, I think you're not considered to have a border with them because your new territory that borders them doesn't actually connect to your capital or the rest of your trade network. I might be entirely wrong about that, and you might need to simply wait a turn. But I'm pretty sure it's that your borders aren't connected.

    I am sure someone else already said it, but total war has this very frustrating rule that trade routes can only be done when both factions have their capital's connected. When you looked at that trade deal right after taking that one city, the newer city was not connected to the rest of your territory...frustrating, I know.

  • @rigs9801
    @rigs9801 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jon! Just want to make sure you know, I believe the reason you can't trade with Yuan Shu is because you don't have a border connected to your capital connected to them.

    • @aetryn1485
      @aetryn1485 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the tooltip explaining why you can't get a trade route is a really bad simplification. What you need is a connection from your capital to theirs. This can either be a contiguous route involving first your territory and then theirs, or if you both have trade ports, contiguous routes between each side's capital and their trade ports. Jon touched on this briefly when considering whether to peace out Don Min, but it's VERY worth knowing whether the other trade ports are on the map if you have one yourself. You can potentially send out a scout general with minimal retinue to make contact, opening up trade partners that don't block your expansion. The natural targets for this are Gongsun Zan and Sun Jian/Sun Ce/Sun Quan - both of them far away from most factions, but owning trade ports.

  • @rageleague188

    Have you considered that you don't have trade access because your territories are cut off and the territory that you're adjacent to Cao Cao doesn't have resource production?

  • @sirdeakia
    @sirdeakia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Marquis is the french pronunciation. It derives from the french word delimiting the territories that "mark" the borders. In portuguese, the world is Marquês (with a similar pronunciation) and the word "marca" it's literally "mark".

    I think a wise plan of action would be to bring your wife into your army since she would benefit from her traits alot more on the battlefield. Tao Quan also could be a valuable ally, and finally making sure that all your generals have the highest quality weapons and armor could benefit them greatly on the battlefield.
    You should also try to take the island of Taiwan to gain access to the trade of tea which is more abundant in the south of China. Taiwan is a long ways away so it shouldn't be a priority but it could be interesting
