  • What better way to prepare for Lent and Easter than to listen to conferences from a monk about prayer? In fact, a Benedictine monk is uniquely qualified to teach this valuable skill, since he spends so many hours a day in prayer.
    noceasing
In early October 2013, Fr. Cassian traveled to St. Benedict's Abbey in Still River, MA to give ten conferences to their monastic community. A common thread through his talks is "praying without ceasing", but we can all learn much from his great wisdom and experience. Treat yourself to these free talks and use them as a way to improve your prayer life this Lent.

My biggest enemy has been myself. I needed to hear this stuff. I lack stick-to-it-ness. I realize I have to pray and ask God for discipline and persistance in making time for each form of worshipping God. Verbal, Meditation & mass attendance, communion, time alone in silence to let the Holy Spirit do to me what Is supposed to be done to me. I'm greatful for videos like this.

I always assumed David's enemies were demonic like mine and that makes it easy to curse them. .💙🙏🏻💙 I had an epiphany today in the realization of Melchizedek was possibly Michael the archangel. It certainly seems to fit as melchizdek seemingly had no lineage he just pops up in Genesis out of nowhere.

Listening to these lectures has caused me to realize that good Benedictines should run the entire church. This is ancient Christianity, not Counter-Reformation fluff reacting to the Protestant Reformation.

Is the Rosary to equivalent to the divine office .Since it focuses on the life death and resurrection of Jesus?

The Rosary began as a way for illiterate laymen to join in with the Divine Office. Most couldn't read the chant for the Office, so instead they prayed a "Hail Mary" for each of the Psalms. These were broken into groups of ten with an "Our Father" in between.
Then, Our Lady codified this method of prayer by giving St. Dominic the Mysteries upon which we meditate upon as we pray. The Dominican form of the Rosary has the same introduction as the Office. The monks would chant the Rosary the same way they chant the Office.
Here is the Dominican way of praying the Rosary (which is the way I usually pray it): marktheevangelist.weebly.com/st-marks-news/the-dominican-way-of-praying-the-rosary

St Mark the Evangelist how about the Little Divine Office ? That’s from the Virgin Mary Herself correct ?

Duane Romana the Rosary came to replace the Little Office slowly. The Hail Mary prayer is the opening antiphon of the traditional Little Office and medieval people accepted them as equivalent.

@@HolyInquisition I was with the Carthusians for about six months as a postulant lay brothers. When not working or sleeping I was praying the rosary - lots of them in lieu of the Divine Office. The night Office would often last two to three hours during which the laybrothers in their own choir the other side of the wall that separated them from the choir monks would recite rosary after rosary. There was another rosary to be recited when we got back to our cell in lieu of the Little Office of Our Lady. I found it tedious, and more so because I had sufficient Latin to understand and join in the Divine Office. I could not see me doing this for the rest of my life and so I left. I still recite and sometimes sing some of the Divine Office every day like Lauds and Vespers, but much less recitation of the rosary these days.

@@duromusabc The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a redacted form of the Common Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the Breviary. It wasn't given to us by the Virgin herself.

32:18 : From the womb before the daystar I have begotten thee.
He has some trouble with the meaning though I don't know why, the literal meaning is self explanatory. It means Christ was begotten before the sun. Before all that was created.
    edit for time stamp correction.

And yet how much more spiritual insight has he gained by not assuming he knew everything! The daystar is not the sun. That is not how the ancients described stars. The "great lights" of sun and moon are of a different magnitude (if you will forgive the pun) than the stars we see at night. The daystar is the morning star. It is associated with Christ, and with Lucifer, who was the brightest of all the angels before he rebelled. The daystar heralds the dawn, the coming of the Light into the world. There is a great deal more in this passage than there seems at first reading.

If you think you understand the Scriptures, you don’t.

@@gray_mara The daystar is venus and is Christ's star. The lucifer aspect I believe was a mistake in interpretation made long ago. Christ is alpha & Omega.
