Diamond Hill Mine Quartz Crystals in South Carolina

  • I spent a day here digging though through tailing piles at the Diamond Hill Mine in South Carolina. To be clear the mine is the dirt piles. If I were to clean the crystals I would first remove all the dirt and then soak in a solution of Super Iron Out and water. Google the method or search for other methods using Oxalic Acid or others (careful when handling acids). Many iron-stained specimens from there will look better uncleaned. For more info of the mine go to their website diamondhillmin...
Thanks to Mike (kentuckyrockhound on instagram) for sharing what he found the day before on March 23, 2023 (I was there on March 24). Check out his instagram at / kentuckyrockhound

Thanks for the video, Scott! I personally like the iron staining on the quartz pieces, I think it adds character to them. :)
Looking forward to your next video!

Maybe next time. I've got a taste for Diamond Hill quartz now. :)

We don’t get over there as much as we should I guess, we moved to this area about 2 years ago & there are so many spots within a couple of hours from here that we have trouble deciding where to go... can’t make it to Graves Mountain for the swap this weekend

We're considering going next month. But this place is 6 acres. How do you know where's a good place to dig?

They are all tailing piles from what I understand, so the best people to know what hasn't been over-searched are the mine operators. Be sure to ask them when you pay about if there are fresh tailings to go through or if there is a better location. They had told me to dig 8 feet down. If you go there a few days in a row maybe you can ask if they can strip off some of the layers above.
