G'day from Australia Janis. Have just discovered your site and I have really enjoyed it. For awhile, I thought I was the only nut job to caress my bikes when i'm around them!! My wife still doesn't understand it all. I run a 2018 CB1000R and it's my go have fun bike, but after seeing a few reviews of the GT, I'm definitely thinking about changing machines in the not too distant future. Hopefully, I will be able to test ride one soon if we ever get one into the dealership where I live. I also run a 2014 Vstrom 1000 for the long tours, but having a bike that puts a smile on the dial every second your riding it, to me, is what life is all about. Keep the vids coming brother, and ride safe. Have subbed.
Hi Janis, Thnaks for sharing your experience about Super Duke GT. I have a Super Duke R and a Super Adventure S and I'm thinking about replacing the 2 by a GT. Do you think that can be a wise choice? Is the wind protection of the GT correct at higher speeds? Thnaks for your reply.
What do you make of the active suspension? I have a 990 smt and like the longer travel to soak up the poor british b roads. Was thinking if upgrading to get the modern rider aids but the Gt only has 5" of travel. Your thoughts please...
Hi Janis , good review, I agree that the quick shifter only really works well under proper load, any recommendations for accessories ? I did buy the comfort heated seat .. but no need to turn it on!! Cheers DGW MV !,
Hi Dave. You might need it re-setting as it fixed all of my issues after we re-set the QS. As for accessories have a look at my other videos I’ve got one covering all of mine; or just let me know next time you’re at the shop I’ll run you through all of the bits and bobs. :)
I wish KTM were more upfront about them having addressed known issues(or not) on the previous model. For instance, have they improved the clutch system requiring repeated bleeding every so many miles on the old model?
I’ve bled mine once, at 13,000 km. I don’t think that’s excessive. Anyway, I swapped out the OEM slave for the triple o-ring Sigutech slave from Germany, and the billet backing plate from Oberon...just for much better feel, and I hope reliability too (not that mine was unreliable).
Hello Janis Thanks for your review. What's your height? Did you like the wind protection? I am 6'3" and I am between SDGT and SAS. i find this more appropriate for my background as I come from the supersport world. But the SAS seemed more smooth in low revs compared to SDGT 2018 and it made me thinking a lot about it as I am going to use the bike for every day commute a lot.
No dealer near me has a bike available for test ride. I realize the breaks are linked but I'm a front brake only kind of guy. How is the riding position for a taller guy compared to the S1000 XR?
I am in the market for the KTM super duke gt but I am a little worried about wind protection. Is it better then on the Bmw R 1200 Rs. Also, regarding seat height. I am 1,73 cm (32 inseam). The 82 seat height on the Rs felt perfect for me. What do you think? Thank you.
Thanks for this quick review, I am in two minds as to buying the GT or not, haven't ridden one yet so enjoyed your vid. Look forward to some more, cheers
Do me a favor please. I’m waiting to buy the bike here in the US in the mean time can you make a video going over the features on the Tach? Like power modes, traction control? I would like to see what the Navigation looks like on that screen
👍🏻 subbed I'm currently looking for a 1290r but came across your channel with the GT , enjoyed it and looking forward to your videos this year . Just waiting for my test ride now in my local dealer 😄
Have you used any of the customization of the handlebars and/or footpegs? If so, is there a big difference? I read somewhere that the bars have 4 different positions as do the pegs. Thanks!
Is it a TH-cam thing the adverts while watching...annoying... A question about the engine noise I rode the old version and found the engine noise off putting coming from inline4 engines I love the bike in looks but the engine sounds like a lawn mower... maybe it's just me.
it’s very individual too. I didn’t get any ads during this video, but it’s the first time I’ve watched anything from this person. Also, it depends on which jurisdiction you’re in. When I lived in Germany for a few years there were very few videos. When I was recently in Australia there were way too many ads.
You were not being a ‘prick’ when you moved to the front of the left lane to merge, this is exactly how it is supposed to work, use as much of the 2 lanes as possible before merging… people always get this wrong, merge early and get upset when people move up like you did get upset… what is suposed to happen is every gives way to each other, not close the gaps and close people out… its all about giving way, using both lanes to their full and keeping flow going, if everyone did this, traffic would flow a lot faster and safer. Sources, Highway code, IAM, police driving manual and every advance course. Unfortunately most people move over early and get defensive… its wrong.
Hello, I'm so pleased you made this video, there isn't much on the internet at the moment. I pick mine up, same colour, March 1st! Crazy 0% deals on at Northampton at the mo too! Answering the question regarding the BMW1250. I test rode that bike, I'm a huge BMW fan, but I had trouble with the quick shifter, very clunky going up, perhaps user error, and I thought it ran out of puff too soon, plus the cost comparison to the KTM is a few £1000. The BMW does ride beautifully though, however, so does the KTM. Ride both and let us know how you get on.
Apparently the BMW quickshifter on the boxer engine gets better with miles! but I thought the same as you, I didnt know there is a KTM dealer in Northampton, they any good?
Enjoyed watching this I run 2018 model and love it, trouble free so far too I wondered if you had ridden previous model and what were your thoughts on the suspension upgrades can you tell any difference
Q. How did you Shield the Seat from the Heat of the Engine.? It's a Pain in the Arrs after about an hour. Tried the Aluminum Heat 'Roofing' Insulation but that didn't work. Love the Bike but definitely not the Engine Heating up the Seat...
Looking good! I don't know how many have reached UK dealers yet though, as I ordered mine on 5th January and I believe it was probably the first order that dealer had taken, and they're not expecting my bike to arrive till some time in March (no definite date yet). Still, at least hopefully the weather will have improved by then - or maybe not!
Cheers for the vid! Nice one!! And I think the cops were appreciating your bike. They might be cops but they are bikers bro!! And they would defo appreciate your beast!! Ride safe man ✌🏽

I guess the Gt is more sports bike than enduro like the BMW is.. so riding the Gt is more enjoyable if your coming from sports/street bike.I rode a tiger 1250 and loved the ride but since I couldn't see the road in front of me I didn't like it way to tall lol
I wanted to like this bike, but that new headlight is such a deal breaker, what a disappointment (for me). Particularly when the windshield is raised. The previous design was way better!

Non-intuitive menu system, quick shifter that isn't seemless and brakes that need servicing for 'sqeaking' within the first 1k miles isn't exactly good for a 16k bike, I'm now steering more towards a Pikes Peak MS or R1250GS Rally TE....
Darran Baker On the Multistrada Pikes Peak, if I was in your position I’d hold off... Carlin Dunne’s entry on the exhibition class for this year’s Pikes Peak race is nothing short of intriguing: a 2019 Ducati TBD. I’d like to see what motor (especially) this bike will be sporting. Take care.
Darran Baker That’s what I’d like to know, given that the main Ducati rider will not be taking his regular ride (Multistrada Pikes Peak) up the mountain on this year’s race. Could it be a version of the bike with the V4 engine?...
Darran - your v quick to criticise, GS gearbox was re designed because previous model was v poor. Ducati MS has had fair share of problems, but more importantly if you are looking at a superduke GT, then the only real competitor is an XR 1000. I wondered if his shoes were motorcycle shoes. I see them at the dealership. I had a nice pair of sport touring boots finally give up on me. For a short time I attempted to ride with sneakers, but the shift lever just killed my toe. I never thought that my bikes shifted that hard. New boots cured the problem.

Never heard of warped discs because of wrongly running in..
You have now.....
You cannot warp a disc from running in. You can however put grooves in the disk potentially.
They warp no matter, if you go from speed down to a complete stop you risk them warping, mine getting replaced under warranty
Have you used any of the customization of the handlebars and/or footpegs? If so, is there a big difference? I read somewhere that the bars have 4 different positions as do the pegs. Thanks!
