I've always thought of Barret and Cid this way: Barret is the grumpy type who swears fairly often in a rather unclean language, while Cid is the energetic aggressive typ who swears a lot more, but also has a fairly normal vocabulary. For example: Barret is like "Damn, ain't nuthin' but a hunka' junk now." while Cid is like "SHIT! What's going on here?!"
