The Shining Gyarados is one of the best artworks and iconic in terms of being one of the first shiny hunts in the TCG.
I have one but not first edition. It’s my biggest hit in my collection
Nice list. I think you hit most of them, but I would definitely add Crystal Charizard somewhere.
Moonbreon. Really highlights how amazing alternate arts are. Dragonite v as well.

@@ultraxatu3027 Yeah agree, my personal favorite is the Giratina V. However, Moobreon is the the card most people think of when it comes to alternate arts. It also is the best card in the best set from sword and shield. It is the most valuble card in all of sword and shield!
i like the lugia and aerodactyl v alts and gengar vmax the most so far. galarian rapidash v is pretty nice too

Easily agree on the #1. That 1999 Charizard base set card is what everyone wants, because it's attainable. Getting that card in a high grade is a no brainer for your collection and will continue to increase in value over time.

Very true about Ancient Mew. Pops up on Reddit about once a week, with someone so proud they have it and thinking they have a fortune… and then several comments saying how they have always wanted one, even though it’s like $25 even sealed lol
Gold star rayquaza deserves a bump up because it's not only one of the best art works of all time but also represents every gold star I think it has to be top 5

Good list. For #4 (SV49), I think the OG is actually 150/147 rainbow that started it all. I also think the first alt art Char/Venu (154) will be considered iconic 5-10 years from now .....

They didn't have any Ancient Mews left when I went to see the Pokemon Movie. Kid me will carry that grudge for the rest of his life.

Lmao, I have a friend who's only card is the ancient mew in a psa 9. He loves that thing more than any other card you could put in front of him. He's a big investor so he's picked a solid steady card to love.

I do have to throw my thought into the hat here. I still gotta say that jungle Pidgeot is one of the most iconic and possibly the most beautiful cards of the original 3 sets. It is still, to this day, my favorite pokemon card of all time. There may be some bias, especially since my kids think plain old holos are simply boring. They will never understand how amazing those plain old holos were when opening base, jungle and fossil.
Base set Mewtwo and shining Gyarados should definitely be in the list

Maybe 4 to 5 years from now the Vmax full art red's pikachu would be a iconic card because ash won't be in the show anymore
but as you say, it's red and not ash on these cards. I believe old japanese bandai cards with ash, pikachu and charizard on them might be more valuable.

Moonbreon has to be in the list for the most recognizable card of the modern Alt art era. Also the Shining Gyarados coul've been mentioned as the most beautiful and sought after card ever (in japanese)
