- We got several new scaly family members last year, so here's an update on how they're doing! Why do they all seem to want to eat me?

the reason the lavender hognoses don't look lavender is because of auto white balance. on the sony a7 (I think that is what you have) you can custom set it to you room using a white sheet of paper or something called a gray card which is a very specific gray color. the gray card is more accurate and what I would recommend for you to use but paper is easy to get.

My lavender corn snake does not look lavender in pictures either… no matter what background he’s on but in person he’s quite lavender.
The Yellow Anaconda should be called Teeny, so you'll have Teeny and Tiny 😂

I actually went searching through the comments section to see if anybody else had brought up the color wheel! I didn't want to repeat something that somebody else had already brought up!
I came here to say the same thing. I kept waiting for Emily or Ed to say “oh yeah, we have the color wheel from Christmas!”

I got chomped by a hognose for the first time this week. I took in a teeny tiny boy with a very severe kink and I was worried that he wasn't going to want to eat. Instead he decided to eat my thumb with great enthusiasm 😂he managed to envenomate me because he chewed so hard! I had a very tingly thumb for an hour or so 😂

Blind Intersection is absolutely adorable and probably my favorite, but I'm not gonna lie, I do love Dewey as well and also immediately fell in love with his inquisitiveness, he's quite charming!

Shout out to my fully sighted ball python who once got so excited about _rat smell_ and _mammal temperature_ that she missed the (not quite rat temperature) rat, and got my hand instead. Sometimes having eyes does not get a snake out of the trouble its other senses can get it into.

Glad to see Rosie still has her funny little habit. Would definitely keep an eye on her though when she’s old enough to breed and gets paired with a male though! Don’t wanna have the poor boy be her snack.

Well of course I admired the leucistic hog but I also have to say Emily's wedding ring set is gorgeous! I wonder if the lavenders will show up on the camera in sunlight or some other lighting? I did get to see what it looks like when Emily wore a shirt in a video that had a lav hog on it. 😆

I think all her rings are pretty. I honestly could not tell if they were sapphires or black diamonds. Her snake ring is pretty as well. I wish I could show a photo of my snake ring.
My original engagement ring is a sapphire, I love them! I noticed Emily's ring a little while ago but felt weird about asking about it lol. It's so beautiful!

Oh! We recently learned an odd trick for removing hoggies when they bite: gently pinch the sides of their faces while removing them (my guess is that it unhooks their little fangs). It works really well when the nose trick doesn't want to work.
I did the pinch trick when feeding my old beardie draco whom i lost to a nasty infection .-.
So when I had Nettlebrand (the yellow annie) he would do that bluff strike thing then pull back and the strike anyway lol. And he NEVER went on hunger strikes in the 2ish years I had him. He pounded down food.
Who else remembered Mad-no-eye Moody when meeting Blind Intersection?
I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought of Mad no-eyed Moody when they showed Blind Intersection.
Omg! Diamond has gotten so big! I remember when you first got her in a shenanigans video! Edit: you can also see my snakes heart! He is a lavender corn snake!

It’s amazing how most of the snakes are super calm already, showing how you guys are so great in working with the snakes in all less than a year!

Plus in older vids she says that with consistent handling you usually reduce spicyness pretty quickly.

I think Rosie might be my fave. She's just a tank, and admittedly kinda funny. Dewey and Donut are up there too. They're both v sweet and I love Donut's colors. Besides the eyes, ik the lavenders don't show up great, but her head looks almost pink-hued.
If you want to accurately show the true colour of a snake you can just get a colour balance card and hold it next to a snake so you can calibrate the white balance and colour tones in editing.
The card should have a section for shades including white grey, and black, and a section showing a range of specific colours (the larger the range the more accurate the final calibrated image will be to true life.

When we had boy cats roughly thirteen years ago, they used to climb on our backs like Dewey did when you were getting him back into his enclosure. It kinda hit some nostalgia got me. Thunder and Storm have long since passed.
I’m sitting in my backyard right now but Emily if you do read this, I found a brown snake in my backyard. He’s so cute it’s the first snake I’ve ever found in my backyard and I’m so happy.
I am and always have been absolutely terrified of snakes but I have found myself watching hours of your channel. I have found a new respect for these animals ❤😊
Dear Emily and Ed, I love all your videos. I've been watching your channel for the last couple of years now I think and I've recently learnt that I may be autistic too. Blind intersection just became my favourite snake other than the pretty hoggies that we can't have where we live. Also Rosie is sooo funny. Q: Do the venom glands develop more because they eat toads in the wild and like dart frogs they obtain their venom from their food and they're less potent in captivity?

16:47 I have been a life long fan of your channel and hearing this new boa was named donut was crazy. My nickname has been donut for years and my niece and nephew call me Aunt Donut. The blind Ball Python can probably still sense dark vs light, like a pseudo-jacobsons organ or even just the nerves where his eyes should be. Awesome snakes! The SD Retic and Yellow Anaconda are my favs! Have you guys seen the patternless Yellow Anacondas?? They are amazing!

The yellow anaconda reminds me of my sumatran short tail python 🤣she has an attitude too, and gives absolutely no warning before she bites. But I love her.
My dwarf boa also has the split colored irises like Donut! super cool!

When I first saw Diamond I thought I recognised her pattern and her looks in general, then I looked at the picture on my wall and realised I held that exact same patterned python! Her name was fluffy and she was such a sweetheart! It’s awesome that I’ve held the exact species of snake you own with the same pattern! Love you guys! And diamond 💎🐍❤

It makes me so happy when I see you care for the animals so much. It really shows how much you love them. Great work, Em. I used to be scared of snakes, but have overcome it to a good extent by watching your videos.
We have a lucy ball python that's going blind. One eye is nearly overtaken by cataracts and the other has just started getting one. His personality is somewhere between Blind Highway and Dewy, with a tough of the anaconda. Not the violence, the kisses. If you make just noises he will boop you in the mouth with his snoot. He's been doing that since he was a baby and we've been doing it so long that now the just noises also get his attention and in some cases can get him to come out of his enclosure and into my arms. He's such a sweetheart.
He also enjoys snuggling with our kitty. We hyper-vigilantly watch them when they're both on our bed and she is between nonplussed and mild curiosity toward him whereas he's borderline obsessed. He love-hates her tail. He snuggled into it, but then gets annoyed when she fluffs him in the face. He will also try to climb up her butt (we have to stop that one cause she allowed it for whatever reason. Were the ones who don't like the idea cause we know she'll only be ok for so long, then anyone would get upset in that scenario lol). He also just liked so sleep near her. He will slither you beside her, she'll open an eye to see it's him and they both fall asleep. The latest cuteness was that he slithered up into hubby's pillow that she was sitting on. He had her front (declawed) paws outstretched and he lusty last his head right between them. She then did the happy kitty squint as he fell asleep. Then she fell asleep.
*PSA* DON'T EVER LET A CAT YOUR SNAKE! I'VE HAD SNAKES BEFORE AND I'VE HAD CATS MY ENTIRE 40 YEARS OF LIFE. I KNOW THEIR BODY LANGUAGE WELL AND I HAVE INSANE REFLEXES. MY CAT IS OLD (18) DECLAWED¹, AND SLOW. OUR SNAKE HAS BITTEN BEFORE BUT ONLY AS A FEEDING RESPONSE AND ONLY BECAUSE I SWITCHED TO GIVING HIM LARGER AND MORE FOOD ITEMS LATER IN LIFE THAT I SHOULD HAVE. HE'S ONLY BITTEN WHILE IN HIS ENCLOSURE AND NOT AT ALL SINCE WE MOVED HIM UP TO SMALL RATS. I WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OFF.
¹ didn't want to declaw my cat. I was threatened and declawing her seemed like the best choice for her at the time. I didn't know that I couldn't legally be threatened into relinquishing an animal in my care. Where I live, shelters are full so most homes, so long as the animal is getting their needs met, are better than shelters. So at the time I was convinced my options were declaw or let a shelter put her down. I would _never_ make the same choice. Now, my animal would come before the humans making the threats. I would simply move.

Black Headed Pythons live in the northern parts of Australia, so Queensland, Northern Territory and northern Western Australia. The Northern Territory and Queensland have two climates: dry and wet. The wet season is a tropical monsoon climate.
In the summer, the deserts can be as low as 19 degrees C (66 degrees F) but can get as high as 40 degrees C (104 degrees F).
I've noticed the yellow anaconda has a pattern on his sides similar to a jaguar, I think that'd be a cool name for him.
What would be interesting is mixing that sable into the lavender. See if the darker color is captured better. Also I think it will make a very gorgeous snake

I like the orange hognose a lot, I love the bright colors. My hognose is like just barely less food motivated than the one that almost ate Emily, she always dives at me when I'm feeding her and she looks for more food every time.
You could name the Yellow Anaconda, Sir Hiss a Lot 😂😂
Australia 20:19 all hot all the time - we do get snow on our tall mountain ranges in the South east part of the country! And in the middle of the country in winter your hair can freeze at night! Admittedly the northern part is quite tropical so it is much warmer there no matter the time of year.

After watching a bunch of videos of yours featuring lavenders, I’ve noticed that they look the most true to color on their aspen bedding. I think a yellow leaning brown is the best colored background to show them off on.

I’m thinking it may be a side effect of UV filters in the lens, the image sensor, and or the camera firm/software. Digital cameras used to have an UV problem, they would be too purple because the sensors were too good at detecting UV. The solution was to make an UV blocking coat on the lenses. I think that’s blocking the lavender color of the snakes.

Blind intersection might actually be able to sense light and dark! Idk if it's the same with snakes but some reptiles have a "third eye" that can can sense light and is incharge of circadian rhythm
