    I bought a pair of these for our parties (house/techno music, 50-100 people, various smaller venues indoor and outdoor). So far very happy with them. For us the lower weight and the handles make a huge difference as we don't own a car or van for transport. Either we put them on a taxi or we strap them on the back of our scooters, job done. We are expecting to host bigger parties later, so eventually will add the 718s subs. For these smaller parties however, the 715 woofer produces plenty of nice clean low end sound! Yet to have to max them out either. Feeding signal to the speakers direct from a Xone96 mixer.
    Interesting you mention the 3rd gain control via the menu. I didn't notice this as the channel gain knob set around -12dB appears to produce sound levels I was looking for. We don't use any mics though. Will play around with this next time I turn them on. Thanks for the video!

      When you say scooter, you mean like a motorized scooter right? Not like a razer scooter or something like that? 😆
      Yeah, I think the third gain setting is important for lower powered items like just using a mic. I run my sound through a mixing board before it gets to the speaker, so I imagine running straight from a phone to the speaker would probably need the third gain setting adjusted as well.

    Hey man, thanks for the video! This was really helpful. I think the gain feature inside the menu is the input sensitivity gain. Lots of speakers will have a button that says something like "Mic / Line" that you select for whatever type of source you're using. It seems like that is what this is for. This one allows you to manually set it which I think is actually kind of cool. That means you can really optimize your speaker's performance for whatever source you're using. For example, if you are playing music from a mixer and the speaker starts clipping at a lower volume, you can lower the input sensitivity gain and it will likely resolve the issue and give you more headroom. But, it's also an extra step to think about with each source that you're using so could be a big turn-off to some. More control over your sound vs. ease of use. Anyway, I'm interested to hear what you think after putting them through their paces. Thanks!

      Thanks for the comment!
      I'm glad I could help.
      I figured it was something like that.
      It seems like an extra fine layer of control, but I think the biggest turn off for me was the lack of documentation on this feature.
      There wasn't anything in the manual that told me I needed to adjust this in order to get lower powered inputs to work.
      Just had to find it myself.
      My next gig is this weekend so stay tuned for the next video on their performance!

      Thank you for commenting this, I was wondering why my sound was so low. I did change the gain in the menu. I do remember having the sound issue on the 615’s and I pushed the white button behind the speaker and it fixed the volume.

    I just got my pair of these yesterday. I thought they were broke for the first 30 minutes until I found your video clueing me into that 3rd gain buried in the settings. Thank you. Have you settled on what levels you're running each of the three gains, all the same or any higher/lower than the others? Running out of a mixer and it feels really weird having 3 gain volumes on the speaker and then the gain on the mixer channel, volume of the channel, and main volume out of mixer. That's six gain/volumes in the chain to get all working together. Curious what you experience as you use them more. Also I'm getting a buzzing when I play music that's mostly acoustic guitar & vocals....no buzzing with basey songs. Need to try some other cords. Or maybe it's in an eq or gain setting buried in the settings. Haven't tried Bluetooth yet, curious to see if the buzzing is still present or if it's only when I'm hardwired in. Looking forward to your updates as you gig with them.

      I don't have my pre-sets figured out just yet. Going to see how they handle at the gig next weekend and talk about it in the next video.
      I imagine I'm going to keep the buried gains pretty high and use the master/mixer board as the main volume control.
      Are you using balanced cables?
      If not, that might explain the buzzing.
      I agree that the number of gains seems silly.

      @909overdose I guess that depends on what you mean by correctly 😅 I've got them set up to work with my DJ system, but they don't always work for smaller uses (like I tried setting them up to play audio while watching Dune on our projector).

      @siimoraba2043 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @909overdose There is this in the user manual, even though I admit I missed it as I was already pleased with my levels coming out of a DJ mixer: "Gain adds preamp gain to the system to support microphone usage. EON700’s fader runs standard in LINE
      LEVEL, but accessing the GAIN menu can allow users to plug a microphone in directly". Overall I get the impression this gain in the menu is to be used only if you don't get strong enough of a signal otherwise. Mic being a prime example, but there may be other weaker signal sources.

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So sorry for not getting to this until now.
      I don't know that the "perfect" gain settings exist, but this is what I've been doing.
      *Start by turning all volume controls all the way down on everything*
      -Starting at my laptop, setting my audio out to 75%.
      -At my mixer board, setting all of my volume sliders to where I want them.
      -At my speakers, *with music playing* starting with the internal chanel gain at about 8db, put the master volume to about 75%, next, start increasing the external gains for each chanel up until the sound is at the desired volume.
      If you get to 100% on the external gains, set them back to 50%, increast a few more db on the internal gain ad try again.
      This way, you have several places to squeeze some extra volume if needed.
      You can increase volume at the mixer, or at the speaker, or both if you really need it.

    Is the ducking able to completely silent a channel? Thinking about having backround music via bluetooth that gets silenced when someone sings karaoke on my karaoke system thats connected by XLR

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a neat use case for these. I don't think this will work as intended because the ducking just drops the volume some. Also it pops right back up within a few seconds. So the singing would need to stay consistent.

    I have a question about the powe r button. Is there a setting in the software to have the soesker default to on when plugging in.. i ask because the typical "hard switch" has thebadvantage of seotching on the speaker remotely via controllling the plug socket power. Also concerned about having it mounted high amd speaker being accidentally unplugged. Then wouldni have to always re press the button when pkuggimg back in the speaker?

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      The power button is digital so you will need to turn the speaker back on if it gets unplugged for longer than about 10 seconds.
      To my knowledge, there is no way to change a setting so it automatically turns on when plugged in.

    Hello! I have the speaker plugged into an electronic drum set but can’t get any sound out of it. I’ve adjusted all 3 gains and still no sound. Bluetooth with my phone works, however. Scratching my head on this one. Any advice?

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that sounds frustrating. Sorry you’re having problems.
      If there is output from the drum set, you should be hearing *something.
      You might plug the drum set into a second device of some kind (small Bluetooth speaker, laptop, etc…) to verify you’ve got audio coming out.
      Next take something else that outputs audio (like a microphone) and test to see if you get sound from the speakers.
      If you do, and you’ve tested both Chanel 1 and Chanel 2 and can’t get sound from the drums, it could have to do with the drums output being too weak.
      At which point you could purchase a Bluetooth transmitter and have a “wireless” drum set.
      Or, you could purchase a signal amplifier of some kind and increase the output signal.

    I can't believe anyone can review a product like this and clearly hasn't looked at the user manual - eg your comments about gain and ducking release time. And from the few comments I've looked at below, it's clear there are lots of other guys who buy this stuff and have all kinds of questions about getting it to work, when they, too, have clearly not looked at the manual. Read the bloody manual guys! (But hey, that's just me, I'm an engineer.)

      Well for starters, I typically don't read manuals for equipment I've used in the past (do you read the manual for a toaster before you buy one? Probably not). I've been a DJ for going on a decade and have used several different speaker systems, plus I'm a fairly tech savvy person, so I don't shy away from new tech like this.
      Secondly, I did read the manual that came in-box with the speakers and it was extremely unhelpful in regards to control systems. It was much more a-kin to a quick start guide than an actual full user manual.

Does it make sense to also get 2 subs with a pair of these to have a good balance of sound or is one sub enough? And my most important question is is there a limit of how many eon715 speaker and eon718 sub I can plug together? I might want to expand in the future and buy a few more to get a 100-200 people dancing outdoors. Would 4-5 of these and 3 subs do the job?

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions, I would say you can get by with one sub in most situations, but it very much depends on what your situation is.
      If you're in front of a large crowd and you're playing bass heavy club music, 2+ would be a good choice.
      If you're renting these out, 2 would be a good choice.
      If you're buying for a band or wedding dj set-up and you play for crowds of 200 or less, 1 would likely be fine.
      You can plug as many of these together as your venue power can support. Each of these are individually powered, so chaining them together doesn't effect their power.

      If you are using cables, yes.
      You can connect a JBL speaker to any other powered speaker. You'll want to use either a balanced XLR cable or a balanced 1/4" TRS connector.
      Wirelessly, using the JBL connect app, I don't believe so.
      If you are just trying to connect two speakers to an audio sorce via Bluetooth, you ca buy a Bluetooth transmitter that can connect to more than one device.

    man thanks for this review. I recently upgraded from the JBL eon615's to these with the eon 18s subs. I thought I knew how to plug and play these, shouldn't be much different from the eon600 series right? haha wrong. I felt like I was pushing on my board and just wasn't getting enough. Like you said in the video "you feel like they're broken already". I had no idea you had 2 gain levels per channel. one on the channel knob and the other in settings. Didn't realize I had to mess with both until I saw your video so thank you for explaining all this! Im gonna adjust my settings tomorrow and see if that fixed my problem I was having with these speakers. Im more than sure this was the issue. Oh and I hate that these don't come with the pole setter screw. The only design flaw I hate about these compared to the 600 series.

      @@djsanctus1650 mine have only a couple of miles on them and haven't really been put to the test as far as durability yet, so I wouldn't be able to give you a proper review of quality. I have a bunch of shows upcoming the next few months though. As for right now they seem pretty durable. But I put my 600's to the test, even been dropped from a speaker stand thanks to some heavy winds at an outdoor event. The 600s were great. I love them. So far I am little iffy on the 700s but I know that once I dial it in correctly they'll be better than the 600s. My only real issue is how heavy the 718s are. I was using the JBL PRX718s with the Eon600s and man I was getting some great sound out of them. And the PRX subs were super light for being subs. These eon subs are about 65-70 lbs heavier. I'll give you a review in about a month after I have put them through about 6 shows.

    • @jpTv0820
      @jpTv0820 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djsanctus1650 also I think the issue or big difference between the 600s and 700s is the mic/line button the channel inputs for the 600s. The 700s don't have those which is where knowing your gain levels helps with the sound output. Pushing that little mic/line button on the 600s was awesome, especially me who uses my equipment to run sound for bands. I wish they would've kept that feature on the 700s to make it easier instead of having to change all your gain levels accordingly. I just feel they made it to where its more work to adjust your levels than compared to the 600s. Also I used the JBL app to control the levels and I didn't notice a difference. I had all 4 speakers connected and literally didn't hear a difference when messing with the levels on the app. Have you had any problems or issues with the app?

      Hey DJ Sanctus
      I recently bought 4 of these Eons 715, and 2 of the Eons 718s, the problem is that I am not able to get some good sound, as soon as I increase the volume using the gain, and the one on the main settings I immediately get a red light/clipping

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmygobe9815 Hey there, is the clipping on all of them? I don't have the 718's so I can't really speak to how those function.
      I do know that my method is usually to set everything on my gear to the lowest volume, set the internal gain for the speakers to like 8db or so, and then slowly turn everything up, starting with putting my mixing board at the prefered volume levels before moving to the speakers.
      If your speakers are going from 0 sound to clipping as soon as you increase the gains, then in my mind the issue is likely with what your outputting to them.
      Whatever signal your sending them is too much for them to work with, assuming all of the other gains/volumes are at reasonable numbers.
      If you've maxed out the master volume, and the chanel gains, then your increasing the digital gains, that may be the problem...
      Hope that helps, my friend!

      I've been able to pair them with a device similar to this ( amzn.to/3vqCyAT ) and run both speakers totally wirelessly.

    JBL really screwed up, they made the female hole for the pole 36mm instead of 35mm, 35mm is standard, and that is why the thing flops around on standard stands. This made me very upset when I bought the speaker because that is not cool at all. I believe that in manufacturing someone made a mistake with the hole measurements, and it was too costly to correct, or either they changed it purposely to get people to buy their proprietary speaker stands. However, i cannot find a speaker stand that supports a 36mm hole size from any manufacturer. I am thinking of sending it back because when you are out working you need your speaker to be snug. And like this interview said, why not include a set screw??????????

    • @djsanctus1650
      @djsanctus1650  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've been using cable wraps to hold the cables in position on the stand, which in turn mostly keeps the speaker from moving, but it's still not great and even a little unstable.
