i was trilled to see Sweet Honey live here in Hawaii & met them after, i am a nature/adventure photographer, i always carry some of my photo/greeting cards w/ me & i showed them, Ysaye really liked them ( i do mostly dolphins in the wild and volcano shots) i gladly gifted her some, it makes me feel good that i was able to gift her/them something cuz lord knows they have been gifting me since the 70s!!! God Bless you Ysaye...thank you for all the love/beauty you have spread/shared...my mom/best friend died 2020, while she was taking her last breaths i played this song and was singing it to her...also for years i have sung/hummed this song to the dolphins...
This is truly one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs in existence. I feel blessed to have sung with Ysaye when she joined The Mystic Chorale to sing. Ysaye is such a strong, magical and generous woman. Thank you, Mahalo, Namaste 🙏🏻
I can never get through singing Dr. Barnwell's beautiful song without crying and now after watching this, it will be even more difficult! Thank you RYVL, for that amazing offering.
Happy Birthday, Ysaye. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful gifts. This song helped me heal when my mother died in 1993. I sang this song for a year, always weeping, reaching and finally healing.
Found this when I needed it. Here we have a covey of butterflies. Song written by Mama Butterfly. We bow deeply from the waist before Ysaye.... Share this with everyone today with the Share Arrow above. Tell them it's the Morning Prayer from Ysaye.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Happy birthday Ysaye! Great to see the incomparable Melanie DeMore on this song too. I'm so jealous, I wish I was on this project! hahahaha. Beautiful, beautiful work. Gorgeous. I love it.
Ysaye - I am grateful to have not known of you, of your history and standing, when I first met you in the mountains of Colorado - so I could see you through my own eyes (rather than through the plastic lenses of fandom). Years before, Sweet Honey boomed from a boombox at my daughter's birth, but still I didn't know you as that voice who joined the wails and overpowered the beeps and bloops. How wonderful, that you are so wonderful, and that you share your wonder (and fullness) with unequalled majesty and humility. Happy Birthday!
Ysaye, my friend. It has been so many years since we connected on a project at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I send you my very best wishes and appreciation for this important work celebrating your significant number birthday! Camille
The first time I heard this was when Sweet Honey performed it at their annual concert at Carnegie Hall. The tears started about a quarter of the way through and didn't stop. The song makes you think of that one person. That one person. It brings me to my knees every time. Dr. Barnwell is pure genius.
Happy happy birthday to you, Ysaye. Thank you for your wisdom, for always dreaming of what is possible and for your music that heals our bones. Lots of love ! Jean
This is so beautiful. I have such gratitude in my heart for the blessing that is Ysaye Barnwell, for the gift of music that has been a balm and inspiration. Happy Birthday Beautiful Soul!
This is so beautiful! Do you remember my mother, Jane Faigaio? I think she was part of the folks that brought you to Naropa back when I was a kid. I grew up to be a musician and singer. This song has filled my heart. I knew there was a reason I woke up this morning!
That was beyond stunning ,and I thank my friend Melanie DeMore for bringing Ysaye and this song into my life. Happy birthday Ysaye!!! Bless you......I love you Melanie!!
I feel so blessed to have met Ysaye Barnwell in Toronto after becoming a community choir leader. She is a living legend, and I will forever be grateful, inspired, touched, and blessed for being in the presence, and learning from, such a remarkable, gifted, and open-hearted human being. Happy Birthday Ysaye! Or as we sing in Sing for Joy, my local community choir that got me started on this blessed path: "Happy birthday to you! We''re so glad that you're alive. You're a gift from the Earth. Bless the day of your birth."
I also love that this song lends itself to thousands of different harmonies. Every time I hear it, I imagine a different harmony here and a different harmony over there. And each one is right.
JUST WOW. So much beauty when I thought the song itself could not possibly hold more. You did it. You busted it even more wide open, like my heart is right now.
Here's our version - th-cam.com/video/dWIadTqIyGI/w-d-xo.html We loved this song and loved working on it even if we couldn't sing together. But we had our Memories!

Delicious. The best kind of tears. And the end... classic.
Dr. Barnwell's last name is also my family name. I called her and talked to her on my birthday a few years ago. She is a lovely person.
Thank you for such a beautiful global heart song . A dear friend died and this was played at her funeral. She loved her grandchildren too.
