Great one. Describes it perfectly, 2 years and a half doing night shift. Love the job good workmates but I hate sleeping during the day... I truly hate it. people don’t realise how destructive is to be working night shifts.

Same. Been working full-time Nights for nearly 4 years. Workmates are amazing, love the job. Hate the lifestyle and the health issues it's caused me.

@tomquinn9887 Night shift can cause obesity, diabetes, heart problems, mental health issues, and many more. It also destroyed your metabolism because you are changing your 24 hrs body clock these are research facts do some research online.

I’m 45 and done my fair share of nights over the years..trouble is that on your days off you feel sluggish & are constantly playing catch up with your body…it puts everything out of sync..your eating habits change, your mood, your routine.
I still work in healthcare but now pick & choose my shifts & when I work.. 12-8pm is my current fave shift..I did a night shift recently for the first time in a while and felt lousy for 2 days
I lost both parents to cancer and one thing I’ve learnt is that HEALTH IS WEALTH

I work 3rd shift as a security officer & love it. I don't like people 😆 My fiance has been a paramedic for 40 years. 24 hours on, 48 off. Both of our schedules are odd, but it works for us.

Great video. Nice balance of people to talk on this subject too. I've worked nights now for 8 months and they're weekend nights too. I could sit here for hours writing about the pros and cons, but I'll spare you because the video itself does a good job of that. Bottom line there isn't many pros and plenty of cons. It sounds better on paper, but I assure you, even if you enjoy them the first few months they will catch upto you sooner or later. Even on your days off you can't shake the routine and there is NOTHING to do at night apart from sit down and watch TV or go on the internet. It's no way to live long term. We need nightshift workers, but there just is no intensive to do them.

Been doing nights for 3 years and have a 6 year old son. I love the freedom of working nights but I'm finding it affecting my relationship with my boy as I'm always tired and on my days off I'm wide awake at 3am and he's sleeping. I don't know how much longer I can take it. 😔

Thank you for this video. I really appreciated hearing different peoples perspectives on Night Shift. I wish people had more awareness on how difficult it can be… not only on your social life but also mentally and physically. I’ve seen people thrive on Nights, but for the most part I’ve seen it be a detriment to a persons overall well-being.
I’ll never forget some of my nights working where I would just sit, slightly sobbing because I would be in so such physical pain from being awake at night but not wanting to fall asleep and loose my job.
Hopefully, one day in the near future I’ll never have to work a Night Shift again.

Been doing it for 8 years and there’s no life for nightshift workers. It destroys marriage’s. It destroys your body. It destroys your mind.

I worked a rotating shift for 8 years, switched from days to afternoons to midnight's. The shifts switched every 7 days, it was truly awful because you could never adjust to 1 schedule. Straight midnight's is an improvement for me, and I can't imagine working day shift, it sounds horrifying

I've been doing 12 hour nights for nearly 6 years but also rotate days throughout the week and nights on the weekends so that probably makes it more difficult. Getting into this I thought for sure the night shift would get easier over time, but it's actually getting harder instead. I have a coworker who has been doing this weekend night shift for 15+ years and seems upbeat and totally fine while I'm getting more and more exhausted. Does rotating make that much of a difference or is my coworker an anomaly?

I’ve been working nights for 18yrs since 2004 . I’ve had the chance to work day shift during this period but it is only for 4weeks at a time and only amounts to about 6 months spread throughout the 18 years .
Nights have a huge affect on your life . Employers should make allowances for the health and wellbeing of night workers.
I have never had my employer mention anything about these negative effects.
Not at the start or at any other time
We should have the option to have check ups

My mental sanity is more important than a few more dollars an hour, couldn't bare the thought of not sleeping in the same bed with my wife and not seeing my son as often.

Feel lonely as f atm doing night shift! Anxiety, panic attacks, feeling alone, feeling like i have no one, dont have many people to talk too etc etc etc

    • @MelModica

That’s one of my main issues working night shift. I like working alone but it’s turned into me being alone all the time because when I’m awake everyone else is asleep and when I’m sleeping everyone else is awake. It’s very hard to find a balance so I stick with 6-7 hours a night. My boss is trying to push me to work full time at night 6 days a week and I said no way!!!

I may have to do now. They pay day £11 an hour and nights £18. Let's see if the figures are right.

As a full time night shift worker for over 1 year… I’d be curious to see what long term health issues this work schedule causes for people.
I wouldn’t be surprised if people with night shift careers die at an earlier age, are more likely to have Alzheimer’s, or other medical conditions.

Aluminum foil over white paper with foil tape works the best to black out window glass to sleep during the day
