Now that’s what I call open minded. Being a Harley rider myself, this is definitely the next big thing for me and enjoy the best of both worlds. Would be cool to see something in reverse by adventure riders handling the iron beasts 😇 After all we are all bikers no matter what we ride 😄
Excellent video! I appreciate you giving proper credit to BMW, Yamaha and Husky too. I'm a Harley guy through and through but these other manufacturers are also doing something right and their bikes are well suited for off-road riding. I too am looking forward to the Pan America and will be enjoying adventure riding soon (after taking a similar course). Always appreciate your videos, Matt!
I've either had or ridden pretty much every type of bike there is, I have a Harley now after a few back operations because I had to ease off on my body a bit, but riding trails especially new ones has always been my favourite..Getting out in nature and exploring will bring you some of the best memories of your life..I hope to be back out there soon..Matt I bet you're hooked already and it's something you'll be able to do with your whole family..And the skills you learn off road will transfer to being a better rider on road..Good for you👍
Matt, as a marketing idea, you could take a few Pan Americas' to that course when they come out. Let people know about the event so plenty of people turn up!
@@MattLaidlaw I agree. The basics course is a good course, but I think to showcase the capabilities of the Pan America, an advanced course would be a lot better. Experienced riders would be more interested in seeing the Pan America being put through its paces.
That looked like a lot of fun. I want a Harley for street riding and touring and an adventure bike for adventure. Looking forward for the Pan American to come out one day soon.
I just fount this video, I turn 70 this year and have been a Harley rider for the past 40 years, I just bought a used 2019 Africa Twin, that course would come in handy, I think my biggest hurtle will be that I am a short ass rider, 5'8". But nothing like that here in Nova Scotia , Canada. Thanks so much for sharing. Always look forward to your videos.
Matt thank you for sharing this video for those who been riding for a year! Great advice for first time riders who are thinking about getting into adventure riding! Ride safe
Great Video Matt. I hope all Harley Dealers are as open to Adventure Riding as you and your Dad are. I have a Harley Ultra Limited and a Yamaha Super Tenere. Love them both but the more I ride off road it’s becoming my favorite.
This is awesome!!! Really enjoy these kind of videos. As mainly a Harley rider myself. I believe I'm going to be installing a Heel shift for my KLR. Just used to that type of shifting.
Thanks for posting Matt...I did an Intro Course in the Northwest in 2011...there seemed to be more to the syllabus from then...my issue is with 5 years off riding and 15lbs lighter body weight I am not going to be the rider I was right off the line...watching your video made me choose to rent a bike from Jim and just focus on the basics again...thanks so much for this video...I'm 64 but rock the body of a 35 year old....expecting my new 2012 GSA Rallye early June.
Thanks Matt! Nice seeing you out with your Dad, what a great weekend. Excellent advice on skill level required...this isn’t trail bike riding. Look forward to seeing you present the new Adventure Harley!
Awesome video. My Road Glide Ultra and 1250GS are the best bikes I’ve ever owned and complement each other perfectly. I love that your Dad was with you, my Dad will be 80 in April and rides an 18 Limited. My best rides are with my Dad.
Nice perspective, Matt. I'm very familiar with RawHyde but enjoyed watching this. Great job with editing, and the drone shots are well-timed and well-placed. Editing hours of recordings can be a pain -- I like what you did here.
WOW …. What a fantastic 2 day course 👍🏻👍🏻 … Damm … I was born and live in New England … sadly the WRONG side of the USA for dirt bike riding. Just watching your drone shots and seeing all the AWESOME riding out in the distance was unreal.
Now you need to go to Rich Oliver Mystery School in Auberry,CA and learn even more bike control and how to flat track a motorcycle, which helps when the bike slides out. That was one of the best classes I ever went to
Wednesday I was in Sequoia National Park, at one of the vista points I was talking to an adventure bike rider. He was out for a day ride through Kings & Sequoia NPs, but that he adventure rides professionally... turns out he's one of the instructors at BMW ORA at RawHyde! Of course the Pan America came up in the conversation. He said the Pan America will be available for training at RawHyde. He said RawHyde will be having 20 of the Pan America delivered in a few weeks.
It's interesting seeing this style of riding. It's not something I do, and I don't think I have a lot of opportunities to ride this way where I live. But I do love the outdoors. I definitely can appreciate how it would improve your riding! Thank you for sharing. The class seems like a pretty awesome experience.
No Dynas with knobbies out there? Can't wait for that Pan America release! I've been on the street for years but never done any adv riding with the exception of one small crash hahah. This vid does stoke the fires though. Looks like an absolute blast! Keep up the good work brother!
It's a lot easier to learn on a smaller light dirt bike for sure.. Try riding one of those 1200's in wet clay or wet black muck or Prarie soil .. That sand is easy .. I have never ridden in rocks but they look treacherous too ..
Looks good but they are expensive like hell. At 1,500 bucks per person, with not much more cash I could do a course at other two schools. Which is nice because you get the riding philosophy of a couple set of “professional” instructors. I think I prefer it that way.
Excelente video, como todos los que haces, se nota que tienes ganas de exprimir al máximo la Pan America cuando la tengas, muchas gracias por tus videos un saludo desde España.
Nice video Matt, glad you got to experience a different discipline and pick up a few new tricks with your pop in tow. Should come in handy for when the HD Pan America comes out. It's nice to see HD getting into the fastest growing motorcycle sector.
This was really cool Matt!!! I enjoy most of your vids.. GREAT job.. I regularly watch Million Dollar Bogan ride Adventure on his Road King.. not sure if you have seen it but it is pretty hysterical.. Again.. Great Job!!! Your Dad Rocks!!!
Hopefully a light 975 Pan America is in the works more in line with the BMW F850GS Adventure or KTM 790 Adventure R. As impressive as the 1200+ machines are, they leave many people alienated tossing around a motorcycle that's big and heavy. Even Honda plans a 2021 baby 850 Africa Twin recognizing the sweet spot is in the middle displacement market.
Matt, I truly loved this video and just completed Intro Plus at RawHyde over the Memorial Day weekend, it was sincerely epic and MOST challenging! I took Intro Course 2 months ago, that was a humbling experience, particularly for a newer rider and first-time ever adventure bike experience! I couldn't believe how much my confidence and competence improved in 2.5 days!! Thank you for sharing this amazing footage as well as your perspective. Have you taken the Pan America there yet? I had a few of them in my Intro course :) #AdventureOn #LivetoLead #BadassLeader
I am really interested in the Pan America bike i only wish there was some more information on the bike ,weight is the tank metal etc...apart from that i have a test ride when it finally comes to Europe.I imagine one can ride a gravel track but deep sand it would be difficult. I think it will sell if the price is moderate and it needs to sell.Oh and i must comment either the helmet camara was set low or you are not looking far enough just saying thanx.
Great video...I've been researching this place to take that course....now I'm sold!!! What trailer do you have for your bikes behind your RV??? Nice set up!!!
Thank you for sharing this, traded my H-D for a Triumph Scrambler XE 1200.......Signing up...been riding H-D touring bikes for 15 years , feel its time to do some different riding.
I just found out that Pomona Valley HD is closing on 12/31. I am not saying that surprises me I was never really impressed by that dealership but I hate to see all these dealerships closing. You guys are okay I hope??
Ok man thanx. I knew it wasn't out yet, just didn't know if you did like a prelude video or something lol I've been trying to watch the livewire video all damn day. Like 2 minutes at a time
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks Matt. I'll be dipping my toe in the drone pool. Looking at a Mavic Mini as my first basically cuz it's 249 grams & less licensing & BS involved to use it. I'll see how it goes after that. Depends on how many times I crash too...lol.
The Pan America is too heavy for me. Same as the GS1250. Really most are too heavy for any serious off road riding. They will be good for most people though, since most people's idea of off-roading is a dirt road.
Yea, for technical single track stuff you'll need a dirt bike. The appeal of an adventure bike is it does open up A LOT of terrain and you don't need to haul to bike around on a trailer or truck.
Great video. My favorite part is that you went with your dad. Precious moments Matt!
It was a good time! Thanks for the comment

Hey Matt, I did it the other way around- started on motocross and enduro bikes and shifted to Harley-Davidson when turning fifty!
That's the easier way to do it. Start on the Dirt Bike at a young age. It's much easier to ride the Harley later in life.
Thanks looks like a good time

2 stroke off road 160 pound bikes are the best. 4 strokes too heavy
Not good for the slow technical stuff, fouled plugs and higher power band. 4 stroke can handle all of that easily.
