Now I agree with you that veganism is not the most efficient way to produce food. Grazing animals have the unique ability to convert grass and other inedible plants into meat and milk. Many of that "90% that can't afford to subscribe to veganism" have a vegan diet because it's SO much more affordable and accessible. 3. Veganism can help solve many of humanities problems. With a vegan world, we'd lower air pollution, deforestation, dislocation of native tribes, death from heart disease, acidification, drought, extreme weather, and END world hunger. 4. Being vegan does not impede any other actions to help humans. A vegan can go on protests, sign petitions, put pressure for government action, volunteer with aid agencies... in the same way a non-vegan can. 5. What are you doing to contribute to, say, the abuse of Palestinians? Unless you're a Israeli government member, probably nothing. What are you doing to contribute to animal abuse? Everything: buying and financially supporting this abusive and murderous industry. By being vegan you can stop this abuse at no cost to any other human rights issue. Big fan of yours Yuval! Keep watching your videos. Love your way of simplifying things . Only have a question here- since trees and plants have a life too, why they don’t have emotions? And even if they don’t have emotions, isn’t it a fact that they have a life and no one can survive on something which doesn’t have life? Keeping that aside I am working hard to be a vegan at least for as many days as possible!
I would say plants don't have emotions because plants don't make decisions. Emotions are necessary to quickly make the right decision for survival or procreation. Plants can't move on their own, so they have no need to make any, especially quick, decision ever. So, there's no evolutionary impulse for a plant species to develop emotions. A plant that is afraid of a cow eating it won't live any longer than a plant that is completely fearless at the sight of the cow since neither plant can act on their emotion (or lack thereof).
Please support animal rights. Animal welfare permits inherent cruelties including weakening animals with domestication, inseminating them for breeding, and slaughtering them. Rights recognizes and abolishes these inherent cruelties, let's not perpetuate a "humane" way to cause a sentient being pain when it's unnecessary and immoral.
Human race can achive spiritual and mental evolution and you (and many others) are the living proof Yuval, absolute thanks to speak for animals with real facts and empathy... Our admiration and metta from México...
By speaking out his mind on many sensitive topics, Yuval is risking his wide popularity among many audiences. He is a living example to the bravery needed by scholars today in order to counter the destructive routhins humanity acquired. Whether you agree with an opinion or not, you must know the facts and be ready to test any opinion with scientific tools. Otherwise, we're just wasting our time, and we'll learn nothing that could be of to help to us in the future.
What a beautiful soul you are Mr. Harari. The work of science is to find solutions for us to live better lives in this planet. All of us, animals.. why scientists stand quiet while knowing of all this pain? .. Certainly there is a solution! We humans have stand together to find it.
Aye I gathered whales have a higher spindle sell count than humans after taking into account size. I'm also not sure e.g. guilt is a uniquely human emotion. Dog owners intuit that guilt is a strong emotion for these animal companions. Considering we also know oxytocin (the 'love' drug) is highly secreted in dogs, and how much we might consider love and guilt as highly connected emotions (something I have observed and theorised, without scientific evidence, although perhaps something is out there on this?), I think a lot or all animals could experience guilt in some way. Motherly love and fear are, for me, the two basic emotions. I wonder if both consciousness and these two most basic primal emotions could go all the way back to amoebic life forms, on some essential level.

A very inspiring speech, while I find the idea that every bite of beef or every box of milk is produced in an inhumane way is really hard to accept, considering how much I love beef steak and latte. Admitted I am trying to avoid thinking about those poor animals and continue finishing my breakfast.
This is a disconnect that the meat industries achieved by hiding the truth and advertising meat is good for you and the main source of protein. Just like the tobacco industries used to. It's brainwashing and indoctrination that cause people to be unable to disconnect meat with suffering of abuse and torure caused to the animals.
Thank you very much for this excellent video. Is there a good website you would recommend that summarizes scientific evidence addressing the most common arguments used in the debate on why we should eat animals or not?
Thanks for great insight. You are a pioneer of 21th century. I want to be a vet for improving animal welfare and you have given me a reason for why I should consider animal welfare. I have a question. According to your opinion, should we be vegan? How to solve current animal welfare problems? What position should I stand for?
Let’s go beyond “welfare” and discuss “animal rights”. We agree that laws protecting domestic animals are just. Why do we ignore the ethical bankruptcy in animal agriculture?
Thanks Mr Harari to create such an important message for humanity. The issue is not about compassion with animals. In fact we are just only one more. As Mr. Harari mentioned in other speech, in comparison with other animals humans are serial killers. The issue is about understanding we have the same rights to live here than any other species. I also add, this is not only about the food industry. Having pets is other way of depriving that animal of having its own emotions , its own life, living in its own environment.
I agree with most of what you said, except that people can have different ethical views. People can have different moral views, but ethics is objective. A person that for example thinks rape is ethical is objectively wrong.
I understood that people have different ethical views on animal treatament. There is 5 ethical approach on use of animal as food etc. If you are comparing how to treat animals with rape you are objetively wrong,.

You're amazing Yuval!
no person like yuval great human spreading wisdom and light thank you...
Hello Yuval! totally agree with your views on humanity and the welfare of all sentient and conscience life. In fact, I've written a few stories notably; Martha the Cow, depicting the feelings from birth onward with a sliding scale of anthropomorphic language to put into context the feeling of a mammal like a dairy cow. Please give it a review when you have some time. Jack Baret
I also use my pen name Angelo Zuccaro to write Martha the Cow and other short stories.
Glad to hear Yuval on this.
What a classic peace of oratory...! Absolutely remarkable.
Thanks for your wisdom Yuval!
Sir Noah, thanks so much..learn so much from your speech.
Thank you so much ,Yuval to bring this problem to here! It's also a very delicate issue for me and (gladly ) also for many people, I am not a scientist but by seeing my pets ( cats and birds) i can see clearly they like me, with feelings and emotions, just dont have my hability to talk bcs dont have frontal cortex develop. I think a lot abt the suffering of animals. Just a really high develop society will treat animals with respect, and we are so far, and i believe it's a issue of all the world, like poluution, plastic on oceans, drugs, human traffic, it's a issue to be solve in global. The problem is like you say on your book, we arent meant to cooperate in the name of our specie, like a chimpanze or a lion, but can we go for that way? hugs from Lisbon
Beautifully explained
All those watching this video should watch Phillip Wollen, the modern day champion of animal rights.
We love you Yuval
what is a human being with out etics?! thank you so much for raising yr voice to defend the inocents
New vegan here. Excellent video about a topic close to my heart.
Harari always brilliantly constructs rock-solid arguments and explains them carefully so a dummy like me can understand.
How good it would be if all the Brazilian politicians were willing to see this video.
Só dá brasileiro aqui!!! Quero que ele venha logo pra cá...rs
I have seen cows and dogs and birds shedding tears for their offspring. Thanks a lot 🙏
You have not, since no other species uses tears as signal of sadness (some do cry, but for other reasons).
Thanks yuval noah harari love your work
Hello mister Harari. A friend who has already made subtitles in Greek for 2 videos of Dr Greger would like to make the ones for this very important talk of yours. Would you have the kindness to enable the subtitles button so him (and I am sure more others in other languages) can work on it? Thank you in advance
All my admiration and respect to you. Your words are so necessary, humanity is sick.
Humanity is sick. And this man is as well. Why is animal suffering high on his priority list when he lives in a country that is gradually causing the genocide of Palestinians? Because he doesn't need that guilt in his mind, he decides to tackle other issues. Fuck vegans. First world doesn't need to suffer anymore, and vegans think not suffering is an animal right? Humans are suffering, and over 90% of the world cannot afford to subscribe to your uppity ass morals.
@@rayjohansson1470
1. Veganism is cheaper than a meat based diet.
So in conclusion, if you TRULY care about humans, you'd be vegan, as it's better for humans and doesn't impede you fighting against other human rights abuses.
Thanks a lot! 🌸🙏🏻🌸 I’ve found a perfect explanation. Finally☺️
When I try to imagine what the Buddha was like, you are the closest embodiment I can think of. Thank you for speaking for the animals.

Thank you so much for this!!!! come to the Netherlands some day.
Very much inspiring! Thank you so much!

@@rayjohansson1470 Oh for God's sake will you stop copying and pasting. I'll say it again: THE DIET OF MOST OF THE POOREST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET (in rural India, Central Africa, SE Asia...) IS, BY DEFAULT, VEGAN, AS THIS IS THE CHEAPEST OPTION!!! It's meat that's expensive, and meat that's elitist.

That is assuming that the plant can even sense the presence of the cow. Which it also can not since, again, it couldn't act on that sensation anyway.
Animals can experience boredom and be traumatized by violence and shows in their abnormal behavior, just like humans. Can plants feel bored?
People tend to ignore these facts for their own selfish desires like profit and taste. Thanks for these powerful words💚

I am soooo happy he's a vegan! I had no idea that this intellectual human is there with us.
thank you for this so important video!
Thank you for that. By the way, love your book!
Beautiful message! I was very glad to hear he was vegan 🌱
Thank you Harari, you are a very beautiful person.
Well said!
I love very much! You inspire me. ❤️❤️❤️
Whoa. Emotions unique to whales. How arrogant am I to have never considered that possibility. Thank you.
I would like to volunteer to translate this video into Portuguese(BR), is it possible to you enable the CC for collaboration or can I make a copy and translate it? **Update** just saw it is translated automatically, but with the title in english, only english speakers will reach it, what we can do is share in social networks, if I could download and put another subtitle would be much better, let me know if I can do it.
Just do it!! I even hope to learn to share in my dialect.
Cows cry tears for days when their calves are ripped from them to be murdered. Sensitive and feeling animals deserve better
Thank you for this video! We need it translated into Russian language too! Everybody should go vegan 🌱
Thank you!
Thank You! If we give up: personality, state borders, armies then we will live peacefully and well?
Such a meaningful video. I wish all of my people to stop ignore this facts and start to listen to other earthlings voice
Yeah earthling Ed's TED speech "every argument against veganism"
Everyone should GO VEGAN🌱
한국어로도 자막이 생겼네요 감사합니다💜
bravo yuval
keep up the good work
Thanks for great insight. You are a pioneer of 21th century. I want to be a vet for improving animal welfare and you have given me a reason for why I should consider animal welfare. I have a question. According to your opinion, should we be vegan? How to solve current animal welfare problems? What position should I stand for?
He's vegan himself, so I would assume his opinion on the subject is that we should indeed be vegan.
Let’s go beyond “welfare” and discuss “animal rights”.
We agree that laws protecting domestic animals are just. Why do we ignore the ethical bankruptcy in animal agriculture?
Thank you this should be translated to Arabic
Finally! Thank you!
Can someone please tell me the name of the plant we see on the left of the screen ? Does anyone know ?
Looks like a Jade plant
What a very powerful speech. Very sad that few things have changed since this speech... Hope the future will be vegan, but when ???
soon. in a few decades, but changes will be felt throughout the next years
Thanks Mr Harari to create such an important message for humanity.
I would like to suggest this video th-cam.com/video/w8B547L5VkQ/w-d-xo.html
silence is compliance.
Couldn’t agree more.
Thank you to BEE on this planet
My hero.❤
El respeto... tanto sufrimiento necesariamente afecta a todos, hay que cambiar, y apartar la cobardía. Totalmente, gracias.
@@giuseppe5397 Tell us why, please? I'm curious if you know how the dairy industry works.
