This was definitely a fun pilot to watch. While I wish I could've seen the day this became a series or at least a movie, I'm glad with what we got from the community from the fanfics, the fanart, and so many talented artists getting attention because of it. It might be the end of Pibby officially, but that doesn't mean the peoples love for it won't be ending so soon.

This was really fun to watch.
I loved the humour that was shown (not talking about the memes). Stuff like Pibby panicky force feeding Bunbun, Pibby getting thrown around everywhere during the superhero show intro, and the ladybug getting instantly annihilated by the darkness is hilarious to see, and is probably the biggest loss with the series not being picked up. We’ve already got a glimpse of what could have been with the scene from the original short with Fred Flintstone.
I know the darkness spouting memes/internet slag has turn some off in the comments, but I personally think it helps to make the Darkness both a better and more entertaining antagonist. We can all agree that stuff like web slag, outdated memes, and internet culture kinda sucks, especially with how over exposed and glorified stuff like emojis, hashtags, meme pages, and other algorithm appeasing things are, so having a villain that represents all of that while still being unquestionably both the villain and a genuine threat give us a clear reason to hate it and root for the heroes. It’s an unapologetic vile pile of brain rot that hasn’t touched grass in 5 years, destroying worlds and ruining lives while going LOL and ROFL. It’s entertaining to watch a monster enthusiastically be a monster by doing/saying things that we all unanimously hate. Also, it spouting memes is so stupid that it turns around to being funny again. This easily makes it a threat I want to see more of and a threat I want to see these characters overcome (and possibly defeat).
Dodge deserves a lot of credit for what he was able to accomplish, especially considering that he was, for the most part, independently going up against both the current day animation industry as well as copyright law. That takes some serious balls, so he’s earned my respect.
All in all, we may never get a series, but at least we have the pilot (and maybe the other episodes, depending on how much of them exist)
I’m actually glad that it didn’t just use current modern day humor/meme culture, rather something you’d find around 2016, implying it likely happened around that time, gives it more depth imo (god please pick this show back up I NEED PIBBY ZAZA)

This took more of a comedy horror approach and I like that, glad that as i suspected the crossovers were most likely gonna be kept at a minimum to help the show stand as it's own thing, sad we'll never get an actual project out of this but I feel happy knowing this survives.

This def would’ve had updated slangs and memes if it were officially released today. The creator did have the ideas set between 2016-2020. So I’m sure even some of it would’ve made it in for the sake of some being classic and nostalgic, but for sure newer-trending stuff would’ve been in along for the most part as well. It def would have to evolve over production time.
It’s pretty sad that Pibby is not a show but at least we can watch the pilot concept over and over again.

Additionally, I'm convinced, in my theory, that the whole ending theme in the pilot's credit is exactly the same as the short's opening theme. And it's most likely that it was being made after the short since the leaked early version of it has a totally different theme music.

@viennavonarthur Given the scope of Pibby it would’ve been very expensive to make both in production and IP licensing. Adult Swim already has a lot of high budget shows walready so it has to balance it out which cheaper stuff which is how we get experimental shows like 12 Oz Mouse.

After watching the full pilot I can theorize that the darkness will be able to follow and “track” where Pibby is because of the speck of darkness on her arm. We see this happening with Bunbun and mailman moe. It probably causes her pain so she would probably bandage it up in later episodes, until she takes the bandage off and it’s covering half of her arm (we see this in dodge Greenleys ig posts.) I wonder how well the other survivors would take it knowing one of the other survivors has the darkness attached to them.

Interesting. It seems like most, if not all of the dialogue from Pibby and Bun-Bun was used for their cameos in the Adult Swim shows during the night of April Fool's. Like the bit about this being a Halloween special at 4:06. If you go back and watch the moment when they were in the end credits of a Rick and Morty episode, that was the exact recording used. Strange to think that the audio recordings from the animatic were heard long before the animatic itself was ever leaked.

I guess the "glitch of darkness" learned to curse basically.
The reason why this was canned was the darkness, absolutely. The evil force in the teaser was interesting because it was very ambiguous about its intentions. This is way too on-the-nose and if it were more subtle it would be both more engaging and less likely to be immediately dated.
I think this episode/show would have been better if it took a little bit longer getting into the glitchy stuff and if it had something other than the emojis/internet is the villain.
I mean yeah the internet has some dark corners and people do weird things to popular characters, but this is nothing like the trailer/teaser was.
This feels kind of forced, if it was remade to be a little less "corporate" if that makes sense, it would do a lot better.
There's old, outdated memes and old, outdated terms and hashtags. It's all got that feeling of "hey look at us, our show has MEMES and HASHTAGS! Its got those EMOJIS that you kids always use! Don't you guys think the internet is bad too? Right? Right?" Instead of something actually worthwhile.

Super fun pilot, should've been picked up but I understand why it wasn't. The humor would've grown dated too quickly-- kind of like when the Emoji Movie had that Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen segment.

The only thing I don’t like is the darkness being made of outdated memes. Referencing memes is tricky with shows, because of how outdated they become. If the show gets picked up they should drop that gimmick.
Its sad that it has to go that way, no wonder that many creators go indie and now we see why, regardless if something gets a traction so big it essentially became one of the most viewed videos of its publishers channel that the suits above still shove it away.
Dodge really fought like a lion to get his passion project on the screens but whats a single lion against a pack of wolves?
Maybe we won't see Pibby on this decade or more to come but I want to believe that one day, even on the day when One Piece ends and we're all in retirement, Pibby will see the light.

I’m just gonna say it. The darkness being internet culture kills it for me. I view it as some sort of a parasite.
Kinda makes sense. Because it's true that the toxic part of internet actually affects good side. And how it affected people's mind especially children. It's just a physical representation of that.
I'm glad the full Pibby animatic was released and it honestly looked pretty great! It sucks that Pibby got canceled.

The creator said it might not get picked up but it's also not completely off the table. Last I checked, cartoon network hasn't outright said it wasn't coming in the future. (Could be wrong though)

Makes sense why they kiboshed it. Making the "darkness" meme-orietned makes it difficult given how quickly memes come and go these days. It would have quickly dated itself given these things take months if not years to release.
It was the pre-Trailer Darkness, if you compare between both versions, you can see a difference, Pilot Darkness seems to be an embodiement of memes and Gen Z humor, while Trailer and AF Darkness is the dark eldritch entity with unknown ambitions.
During development of the concept there were many changes but sadly even those weren't enough for a greenlit.
@cippy992 I honestly prefer the darkness to be some entity of unknown origin rather than just a meme monster....it gave it a more of a mysterious feel.
Either way, the trailer made it seem like the darkness represented cancelation since every character consumed by the darkness were from shows that no longer exist.

uh... not really? Finn and Jake from Adventure Time are in the pilot, and the Distant Lands spinoff released the year before it. These are not really old franchises.

That pilot was so good! I just wish it should’ve died for reals when AS didn’t even try to green lit this series to became an original series for reals. But at least we get to see most of this.
