I'm not adverse to space travel. I do agree with Neil DeGrasse Tyson though, for all of the money it would cost to terraform Mars, the technologies we would need to develop, we could sort the issues with Earth. The only thing that annoys me about the thought of dying, is not getting to see all of the discoveries yet to be made about the universe.
Most of the technologies developed from the Apollo program were later used in other industries. If they did create self-replicating 'Von Neuman' machines, these could be used to provide habitats on Earth for poor people. Terra-forming Mars would not be too difficult. It's smaller than Earth and they could move a lot of asteroids containing the minerals needed to build on Mars from the Asteroid belt using drone spacecraft as tractors and then crash these rocks into the atmosphere to cause them to break up, releasing the minerals. The one annoying thing about Mars is that it lacks a magnetic field. We would need to move a lot of iron ore asteroids to Mars to give enough material that could be used to create the magnetic field. We are very lucky that Earth has a massive core with a lot of iron. Working to create habitats on the Moon will allow us to create similar habitats to exploit the deserts and clean the environment.
2 nice aces. Well played 👏
