She's been gone just over two years, and I still have the feeling if they gave a Dolly tribute someplace, she'd find a way to show up in that red dress again. Then give an off the cuff, hilarious speech about being dead.
Only Carol Channing can make forgetting her lines an event. It is incredibly charming when Joanne Worley and Carol Cook come up to help her. And then, she turns the magic back on and we have the greatest of all Dollys once more.
A mark of a great performer is how to handle mistakes. She made her memory lapse entertaining. She may have forgot the line but she remained in command of the room!
She was so brilliant in her one woman show which I saw in Princeton, NJ; she didn't miss a line, even though she needed some help making entrances. Once on stage she was in total control. How we miss her.
That woman was pure joy to the her core. A true national treasure who made so many people happy in her lifetime. God it’s great to have you back Spiderwoman!
I met her in 79 in Sf. My senior year of High School. It was after a matinee of Dolly she was so lovely. And durring this speech the audience was riveted you could have heard a pin drop. A master class in delivering a soliloquy. On being REAL in a musical.
That woman was pure joy.. I met her when she came to Colorado to speak at the university some years ago. I wish I could have spent an entire evening talking to her. Why is there no full footage of any of her Dollies out there made into a commercial release? I have, for years, tried to find a full Hello Dolly video and I have never been able to. It would mean the world to my husband, who never had the chance to see her perform it live.... alas.
Ms Channing + Dolly + the music of Jerry Herman are the perfect remedy for these times. This video demonstrates how much Dolly belonged to Ms Channing, and how she could really have played her at any age. The celebration was held on February 21, by the way, at the Pantages Theatre ;)
I have a wonderful true story to tell. I was at a bust stop just outside of the Orpheum theatre in Minneapolis,Minnesota with one other person who had just walked away from the bus stop because She needed to do something. I was waiting for the bus. and finally after 20 minutes of waiting a black and silver Limousine and the rear window was rolled up and the driver opened his window enough to ask me if I am alright. I said the bus never came. he said this is a dangerous part of town I would like to stay here to make sure you get on the bus. then you heard a voice saying. call him a cab. I'm paying for the cab fair. I nearly had a heart attack. it was carol Channing She used Her credit card. She saved my life that day,
Hi @aurora spiderwoman! Do you have any more footage from Heathers? That video from 10 months ago is the best quality I've seen from Heathers and I would love it SO MUCH do be able to see the whole show like that...

I cry every time I see her. Just a one of a kind HUMAN.
Bless her soul. She held the magic of Broadway in her gloved hands.
Well said.
@Andy This is real poetry! Cheers!

“You all played Dolly?” LOL! Probably one of my favorite moments from this clip!
I was hoping that someone would mention that line--not only funny, but demonstrates just how sharp and delightful she still was at the time.
She had incredible wit!
What a great trouper she was. Wonderful, vivacious lady. RIP Carol.

No one loved her life like Carol and that inspires me the most about her legacy.

Wow. She still had it. Amazing. I've seen her do this speech many times and I think this was the best rendition I've seen.

Thank you, I appreciate it.
I feel she planned this to bring the others up for acknowledgement. Brilliant
It's also good to see that you're back on TH-cam where you belong ;)

One of my regrets is never having seen her live in the theatre.
Sir, you missed the chance of a lifetime....there are no words to describe her amazing Dolly Levi!
