The thing about Carol is she is utterly unique. That look, those huge eyes, the blonde hair, and then that undescribable hoarse voice with that slight southern drawl. You can't take your eyes off her. Like her or hate her, you just can't ignore her.
This was before Jerry's Girls, but she might have worn it in that show. She often recycled outfits. Meanwhile, this was actually The Tonight Show, and Joan was subbing for Johnny. I know because that's me on the piano... choreography by the great Honi Coles.
thanks for the correction/update...and for your work on it :) Should have recognized the set (I had compiled this clip with a bunch from when Joan had committed the sin of branching out on her own...)
The song is from Jerry Herman's Broadway show"Mack and Mable". I think Carol did this number on her "Sugar Babies" tour with Robert Morse. The tour failed. It was the same title " Sugar Babies" but not the same show without Anne Miller and Mickey Rooney. I loved Carol and saw her in concert and on Broadway.
There will never be another like Carol Channing. She’s flawless.
She's just magically magnificent. Could never be another Carol Channing 💙

Magical lady. She’d always take you with her. That’s entertainment!
I couldn't resist when I saw this clip come up. If not just to hear her wonderful voice and happily surprised with a dance too! ❣
Fabulous!
Always wondered if she wore a wig. Unmistakable, one of a kind voice.
Talk about landing a segment. There is no modern interview doing this type of feature.

Any behind the scenes info you could give me! that sounds amazing.
Oh when the word "crap" was too vulgar to say on network television.
She was made for Broadway.
Maybe that was her costume when she was touring in JERRY'S GIRLS?
What year was this?
