For example, have a monochrome only mode with no heart rate sensor using the solar charging like an old school G-Shock. Here is the short story of my experience with Casio WSD F30, their earlier smart watch model. GPS connected to satelites only twice. And never again. I tried to update software to fix this but Wi-Fi failed. Neither Google, nor Casio customer support replied that. Now I have a pebble for $500. So an advice for Casio smart watch would be - buy Garmin.
I've used a WSD-20 for a year and never had difficulty connecting GPS, and it's consistent within a few feet. On the other hand I do NOT like Wear OS, I'd rather they do something more like Garmin.
Casio in one of the favorite but making a smartwatch now it's too LATE. But I expect casio come up with the best battery and or 1st tough solar smartwatch.
Garmin just came out with solar (assist you still gotta charge it after a couple of weeks) & from what I've seen the Google Wear OS sucks up battery life.
Thank you very much for that first impression video. I am a big G-Shock Fan and i hope there will come a lot more videos about that first G-Shock-Smartwatch. Thanks also for the comparison with all the other smartwatches. I wear the G-Shock GBD-H1000 since it was released and it‘s an absolutely nice watch, but the Move-App by Casio makes that watch not so smart as it probably could be. I hope that new GSW-H1000 with googles Wear OS will be a lot smarter. The look of the watch in my opinion is very nice and the first impressions does impress me very much. Only the price is a little bit too high i think and the battery life could be a little longer. Absolutely no comparison to the GBD-H1000. Like you said, i can‘t remember when i was loading that watch for the last time. Trank you for that great video. Have a nice day.
You would think casio would maybe try and work with wahoo natively to compete directly with Garmin. Now that would be interesting which ecosystem to choose.
I have been using the WSD 20 predecessor to this model. I have no love for Wear OS, it's bloated compared to traditional Pro Treks. But I really like the GPS mapping. Helps me find my way around intersecting trails when hiking. (the phone can do that too, but this is conveniently on your wrist and is far more rugged than a phone) One hint: while it can grab map info from the phone on the fly, if you download the map area into the watch ahead of time, accuracy is improved, pretty much dead on.
Had a solar G-Shock with satellite click synchronisation for about 15 years. Had to change the capacitor after 10 years which cost a lot. My old eyes struggle to read it without glasses now. Looking at Garmin Instinct or Corus Pace 2 when state pension kicks in next month to link with Polar HR10 to monitor heart rate as I up the exercise levels following last year's heart attack. I'll look at this too - no I won't - just seen the price!!!
Ikr! Was kinda impressed while watching. I’m used to fenix battery life, but thought if it was a little cheaper there was a good chance I’d leave garmin and go back to Casio. Very cool watch, but nah. I might as well get a new fenix at that price point.
Got to love a Desfit review. I bought one refurbished for $250 after seeing your review. Your review nails it. Is it worth MSRP? Not even a chance but Casio has offered them new for about $420 also which it should have started at. You have to want a G-Shock and also understand the whole package is very dated but it still has many G-Shock qualities and the G-Shock software is very good. It wont be my primary watch but notifications and other light smartwatch features are important to me and 8 clicks or more on their in house software (GBD-H1000) to read one is so unintuitive. Wear OS is the anchor weighing it down but that is just how it is until maybe Wear OS 3. The internals are from a parts bin but that's what all Wear OS watches are now anyway.
Awesome review. You do a very good watch review. I am a huge Casio fan and collector and the only thing keeping me from getting this watch is the updates. I also have a tech channel and most of my videos are Android related, and what I've found with Wear OS smart watches is updates. They will only be able to update the software for a couple years at best and for the price of this watch, it's just not worth it. Believe me, I would still love to have this watch but for $550.00 used to about $700.00 new, it's just not worth it. Keep up the awesome videos.
PERFECT WATCH for taking with during exams the dual layer display makes it look like a normal watch and you can store your notes in the smart side Ordering one right now
Great review, only issue for me is the price. It has almost the same features as my gbdh-1000 but that watch cost me half the price of this model. Was really considering it until the price because the touch screen would be so much better than just using the buttons on the gbdh.
I had the GBD-H1000 and the dedicated app was unusable which made the whole watch unusable. Casio never updated it or supported it. I love G-Shocks but no way I'm getting burned again on one of these. Went with the Garmin Enduro.
@@preparedlife3114 You can see my review here that explains it all. The biggest takeaway is that Casio never updated or fixed a single thing in the six months I owned the watch.
On the other hand I do NOT like Wear OS, I'd rather they do something more like Garmin.
for that price I would want a speaker and a mic so I can answer phone calls
I subscribed just for your NON-boring explanation - Keep going Cheers!!
Thanks so much!
Yeah but at what price compared to this. $1200?????
Thanks Thomas and appreciate you sharing your experience!
You would think casio would maybe try and work with wahoo natively to compete directly with Garmin. Now that would be interesting which ecosystem to choose.
I bought a Garmin venu 2s as my first fitness smartwatch after watching your reviews. Thx for the quality content!
Nice! Thanks so much!
Quality review
Thanks! 👍
First time i see your videos, you are great at this!
Thank you!
Thanks for the great review. Can you add an external heart rate strap?
I have been using the WSD 20 predecessor to this model. I have no love for Wear OS, it's bloated compared to traditional Pro Treks. But I really like the GPS mapping. Helps me find my way around intersecting trails when hiking. (the phone can do that too, but this is conveniently on your wrist and is far more rugged than a phone)
One hint: while it can grab map info from the phone on the fly, if you download the map area into the watch ahead of time, accuracy is improved, pretty much dead on.
That's cool. I have a lot of gshocks but they really should have put the "smarts" inside of a better gshock casing
Whoa $699. Thats fenix money
It’s definitely in a higher bracket
More expansive than the old Protrek wsd f30 for the same big default... the battery.
Ikr! Was kinda impressed while watching. I’m used to fenix battery life, but thought if it was a little cheaper there was a good chance I’d leave garmin and go back to Casio. Very cool watch, but nah. I might as well get a new fenix at that price point.
@@DesFit do u think since its a g shock it would have better durability that other smartwatches in the same price range?
This is awesome, I just have to choose between this watch, or sending my kids to college.
😂
I wonder what kind of college you're sending your kids 🤔
Great review! 👍😃
Thanks Josie!
Been waiting for this review!
Full review should be up in a couple weeks!
The G-SHOCK I want rn.
Sehr interessanter Vergleich, Danke dafür! Mein Favorit ist das, auch von mir benutzte Modell, GBD-H1000. Grüße aus Deutschland
I love gshocks but the battery life and price tag making me stick to my garmin
Nice video, thank you! Can't wait gws h1000 release on our local market :)
Price tag is too much though as much as i love the way it looks
The internals are from a parts bin but that's what all Wear OS watches are now anyway.
wondering how the touch screen sensitivity will be when you are sweating badly.
Would love to see a video on overall best fitness watch around 500$
PERFECT WATCH for taking with during exams
the dual layer display makes it look like a normal watch
and you can store your notes in the smart side
Ordering one right now
Surely this should have been solar, 1 day battery life is just woeful, I get 5+ days from my Fenix 5x sapphire.
Most definitely. I don't need to worry about charging my g shock rangeman
Great review, only issue for me is the price. It has almost the same features as my gbdh-1000 but that watch cost me half the price of this model. Was really considering it until the price because the touch screen would be so much better than just using the buttons on the gbdh.
this is one of the gshock line up that gonna obselete 😂
Beautifully explained ✌️
Thanks!
I had the GBD-H1000 and the dedicated app was unusable which made the whole watch unusable. Casio never updated it or supported it. I love G-Shocks but no way I'm getting burned again on one of these. Went with the Garmin Enduro.
What about it was unusable?
@@preparedlife3114 You can see my review here that explains it all. The biggest takeaway is that Casio never updated or fixed a single thing in the six months I owned the watch. I wouldn't expect anything different with a new watch. www.reddit.com/r/gshock/comments/lvhaug/gbdh1000_long_term_review_bad_software_ruins_a/
Casio updated both the MOVE app like 6-7 times already to get rid of the initial bugs. They also updated watch’s firmware - currently on version 08 - so you are wrong! After the updates everything works like a dream now!
Wow.. that's why I love G-shock watches... Thanks for the review...😊
Sure thing
A g shock that needs charging regularly, is not a g shock.
Thanks for the review, looks like a really nice ⌚. I like the serious brands like sunnto and Casio adopt wear os
It is just an android smartwatch whithin a tuff GShock case - needless to say.
Just what i am looking for, that 30day battery mode looks great.
Thanks Des for this informative video, looking forward for your detailed video as I’m interested to know about battery life for one charge
It's about a day at most on a charge.
How many kidneys?
Thanx!! I love it already!
👍
Nice watch, but still think garmin Fenix is the best outdoor watch, especially at that price!
grew up on gshock...😍😍😍😍
ill buy it, when the solar version comes out.
If it comes with Solar charging it will definitely be my Must buy List !but overall i still love Casio watch.
