If video generation improves as quickly as image generation did, we'll be making Hollywood quality movies in a few years time.

@Ion Alpha yeah what makes me think it'll be quicker is we'll take what we've learned about improving image generation and apply it to video. I'm sure it's not 1:1, but I assume that cross-modal improvement will accelerate because of this.

The direction this is headed Hollywood, and especially makers like Pixar, won't be happy with putting this kind of movie making power in the hands of almost anyone. This can not only cut into the Tinseltown money, but worse in their view, take away control of the social narratives the Hollywood system loves to dictate.

That's one thing I noticed as well, trying to get a consistent, coherent result on the first try is not quite feasible. While AI is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, you still need a vision of what you want, the dedication to get an acceptable result, and of course on a project that combines several different mediums, like a video, stitching it all together. Still, turning a several hundred hour project, into a dozen+ hour project is pretty amazing.

    RE-SKILL & UPSKILL! 🙂
Matt, this wasn't just incredible because of how you created it. To artists everywhere (myself included) - *this* is why you will _not_ be replaced! We just need to upskill and reskill. Use it all as a new tool, and _create_ what you want, how you want, when you want. I'm a recently retired Creative Director. I know I need to keep up with this, because I'll be able to do it when the naysayers won't.

While a lot has gone into making this "movie", in the future, someone is going to figure out how to make an ai system that has the capability of both making the script for the movie, the soundtrack, and the pictures.. just like openai figured out how to train their gpt4 to recognize contents of images.. soon after that has been accomplished, we will be able to write "make me a horror movie that has a female clown as the main actor" and so forth.. then it will spit out a full 2 hour long horror movie.. you will then be able to watch it, and after having watched it, you can give the movie a rating based on your preferences, and tell it about what you dont like.. this would work like a "plus or minus" for the ai, ultimately leading to you having an ai system that is specially trained to develop movies for all genres, based on your preferences, meaning that every movie you want to see, is always a 10/10.. the future is going to be so insane.

yeah and imagine giving the AI all seasons of e.g. GOT as an input and asking it to generate a new season. give it like 5-10 years and this might be a reality.
It would take a shit ton of computing power but it's still cheaper than actually filming a movie

This is going to open up a whole creative way to create and tell stories. Creative people will be able to build an imaginative channel. We will have a full movie making tool to create. Awesome.

Ive always said in the future there will be programs where anyone can make a movie at home. Youll put in your script and it will generate templates for characters, locations, sets etc maybe directing style like Hitchcock or Tarantino. It will do it all for you. Everyone and their brother will be a filmmaker. I give it ten years.

Great video Matt thank you. I am amazed at how you seem to actually enjoy using these tools in their current state. It is really frustrating to try to figure out what tool is best for what, and there are 1500 AI tools now. And there are still no real front runners, no gold standard, and definitely no Swiss Army knife and all the developers are aiming for a rapidly moving target. No one knows what these tools will be capable of doing in 6 months. It's fun if you are just playing around with the tools, not so much if you actually trying to be productive.

I played around with a similar idea. I did a murder mystery with chatgpt where I was the detective. I told GPT to play 3 different characters, decide which one was guilty at the start but I didn't read the name it gave me so the mystery was alive with me. I then played through it, which was really cool, had emergent plot threads and the characters were believable. One of the characters seemed like the only obvious choice, there was an entirely improvised plotline from GPT about this character sneaking out to the family cabin to meet with his boyfriend, which his father was furious about, they argued and fought about it. Blew me away.
I arrested him for the murder, only then did he finally admit it was him, but it was an accident. Great ending, except it told me the killer was someone else at the start haha. Definitely could make a short video out of it like a visual novel.

Great little video - but the real message came at the end - iterate, iterate, iterate!
My dad said to me back in the sixites, "when you're my age, computers will do it all for us". I got to his age working long hours on ... computers!
So, what if we're really all wrong and our AI turns out great, but we're still working just as much making it just a little better. You and I or our kids will be working on it. (In my case it's already true as my son is working long hours for one of the big companies producing AI stuff as a senior reseacher.) Our reaction as a society lies within us, not with our AI.

This would work for pre-vis and would actually get some paid or give someone work for low to no cost. Only criticism I have on your project is if you added an “s” to “guardian” you could have made up for it looking so different in each shot. Making it a group of bot rather than one. Other than that great work, thanks for the inspiration

I know what's involved. Great work and thanks for sacrificing your time for the greater good. Did you notice the children at "destined to rebuild the future", they are all strangely built. I don't know what the issue is with AI and human limbs but that has to improve rapidly. For now AI is only good at generating archetypes and clichés (one good argue that Hollywood too) but because of experimenters such as you, we have a glimpse at the potential in future iterations. Thanks!

Limited time job until 2024 or 2025 with the way technology is improving. For now the tools are separated a bit, but I imagine they will be all incorporated into a video editor software in the future. For example, right now in Wondershare Filmora it already has AI voices that you can select to read your text for you, and some AI assistance for autogenerating subtitles from audio (although it's not super accurate yet).
And there's a lot of stock videos or stock music or other things to choose from, just needs to have some of the other tech and tools in the software to save time. Then it's just "AI Video Editor" at that point.

This was fascinating. What you need now is an AI tool to feed in your finished video and polish it up a bit. For example, to give it a uniform look, to make the robot look the same throughout, that kind of thing. Irrespective of this, it's incredible to think that this kind of project wasn't even close to possible just 12 months ago. It would be fun to revisit this in 12 months time and note the changes and improvements. Nice work, thank you.

Excellent work. Would love to see how this evolves with the Stable Diffusion model training for image to image on green-screen. For instance, it would be better in my opinion, to use Gen2 for background plates and the use character creation with SD (image to image conversion using "style of" and in the "genre of" with trained models). Render your SD output image sequence inside resolve, chroma key out green-screen, add Gen2 background plates - then follow your additional workflow with AI VO and MSX.
